Thank you so much for this important video. I look forward to watching parts 2 and 3 and sharing this broadly with Local 500's part-time faculty members.
Linda, this is excellent. It is clear that the system simply is not serving the community despite what President Levy says. The system does not provide students with the resources (a teacher with office hours and an office) that they need. Though part-timers do an amazing job, under the circumstances, student success is correlated to how many FT faculty they have, because FT faculty are able to support students more fully, hold office hours, and create an environment of a college campus.
Thank you for posting this, Linda. I love the phone message. I was routinely called the day before classes started, too. Can you create a syllabus by tomorrow? No hurry. Thanks. Unbelievable.
The pace and carefully inserted satire in this highly informative documentary make it enjoyable in all three parts. It clearly focuses on the main problems facing part-time instructors in the California Community College system: Decreased pay for the same amount of labor as full-time, insufficient health benefits, and job insecurity. All working people will appreciate this film, especially since so many workers across the broad range of industries in our Global Economy have the same problems.
Are there no labor unions for adjunct instructors ?
