Sylvester Stallone probably saw this episode of "Mike Douglas" in '75 because there is a scene very similar to it in his movie. For Stallone to say that Wepner wasn't the direct inspiration for Rocky is a joke. He owes his career in Hollywood to Wepner.

Rocky is more based on Joe Frazier; the philadelphia slugger, ranning up the steps in Philadelphia and pounding on meat as a training. That slugger takes it up against a loudmouth trashtalking, amazing, dancer boxer and really gives the champ a good fight. 'Funny it was also called fight of the century, stallone is a fake.

@michaelyouth Wepner lost bad? Though Ali won the bout handily, Wepner did manage to survive into the 15th round, so I wouldn't say that he lost badly. Losing badly would be more like getting knocked out in the first few rounds.

Another thing where your analogy to Frazier rings false : Wepner is white.  Stallone is white. Frazier is black.

Ali wasn't even near his prime, he wasn't even near his post prime in 74 shape.. I'd even say this Ali against Wepner might just have been one of the weakest Ali's, and Wepner still is considered a greatness for ''lasting, or should I say,rabbit punching'' the champ for 15 rounds. Can you even imagine a scene like this happening with today's boxers? This is ALL Ali..he could add a comedic tone to any kind of situation. Just as great of an entertainer as he was a boxer..which is about the Greatest Of All Time. I think in his prime around 66' he could have beaten any boxer that ever lived. Why am I writing this?
