There are a few things that can happen. If dirt or trash gets between the needle and seat, it will leak. The brass overflow tube in the bowl may be split, allowing fuel to leak out. The brass floats sometimes get tiny holes in them, causing them to sink and allow fuel to overflow and run out. i have 5 of these bikes, and have done everything that can be done to them. Check out my 350 at Jan Sallings - Purple Haze.
Its all wrong the way the previous owner or whoever has rearranged the fuel pipes,They are not supposed to be like that. There is two carburetors with one fuel line on each.each fuel line goes to the fuel tap which has two outlets. They have done all that probabably because the fuel tap did'nt work properly as they get blocked and only comes out of one outlet instead of two.It looks like they joined 2 pipes to 1 which would go on the tap and the other two on the carbs. Also 1 pipe behind tank .
i had that problem too, but after i got the bike started it didnt do it. so i guess like other people said, its your carbs. i ran carb cleaner through them and its fine now.
if you take your carbs apart be very careful with the diaphams under the caps!!! the overflow tubes should be clear and unpluged. damaged floats are rare you probly just need a good cleaning. use marvels mystery oil in your fuel along with lead additives. my dad was a honda mecanic in the 70s and i own a 72 cb350
So I have my mothers old '70 cb350 that she rode in college and hasnt been riddin since '81 and has been sitting in the garage. Im trying to get it going again...ANY advice helps!
If you do need to rebuild or clean your carbs for this bike, it is not hard just time consuming, take your time. If you need a carb rebuild kit they are not hard to find and there not to expensive, check out dennis kirk or JC whitney they run about $20.00 per carb. just be careful and take your time, i have had the same problem with the exact make and modle bike.
there are screws at bottom of carb bowls usually when people store the bike for winter they open them up to drain the carb bowl so gas doesnt get bad in the bowl and usually leave them open to air out try tightening the screws by where the drain hose goes into bowl
I had the same problem with mine. I replaced the needles and seats and still had the problem. On mine there was a brass tube that came up from the bottom of the fuel bowls and had a hole near the top for the excess gas to drain off. Apparently water had been in the bottom of the bowl cracked the brass tubes. Don't know if this is what happened to yours but its worth checking when you get a chance, unless you have already fixed the problem.
clean those carbs bud, dkruitz is right. Try finding a good mechanic or just ask all of your friends, it can get pricy for a carb rebuild but it will be work it. Make sure you shop around.
That smaller hose looks like your overflow - if the fuel bowls get too full it flows out that hose so that it wont flow into the intake and fill the crankcase. You'll have to pull the carbs and clean 'em - chances are you have a had set of seats/needles/floats. Not too hard, but take your time doing it.

your floats are stuck so ur floats can be stuck down so try tapping on the whole carb if that doesnt work you may need new floats
defrun23 3 years ago
Your floats have gas inside of them so the gas inside of them is weighing them down so you need to take them out and soider them shut.
