Chaquan is a great style, and this form is impressive. The young man performing it really enhances it, because he's very skilled, and physically a leopard: just look at his arms: all nerve and tendons. This guy could tear you to pieces.
Se llama Er Lu Cha Quan O Cha Chuan.. es la segunda forma del sistema Cha (Boxeo de la familia Cha) Mira mi versión si queres... es tradicional... Saludos
dude have you ever BEEN to China? It's filthy. Great country, but no one will argue that most of it is a toxic dump, least of all the people that actually live there.
At one point in time, a form actually contained parts of or an entire system. Nowadays, not so much. There is currently a massive gap between forms and fighting and it is the responsibility of a skilled instructor to bridge this gap.
Umm...this is a traditional style. There are no "fancy" moves, every move is used for something and can be used for fighting. Still looks beutiful though.
Performed excellently and with nice camera work, however it's true that there is no fightting intent. However, I believe that if you took out the fancy moves, practiced the form w/ fighting intent w/ knowledge of the applications, drilled and sparred w/the techniques, then you could fight with it. The same could probably be said for any Wushu form.
this seems to be a big debate here. what people forget is that forms and fighting don't need to be neccasarily the same thing. these kinds of forms build up such amazing strength and body control (not to mention stamina) that once you begin to the learn the fighting aspect of the art your foundation carries you higher then you would have gone only doing conditioning. truly forms conditioning is one of the hardest in the world.. and cha quan and other hui styles are extraordinarily difficult.
@wushu297 Old post, just seeing the video. Wushu297, well said. Wushu forms are much hated, but in their classic function, they are training for all the basic elements of fighting: speed, power, agility, footwork, flexibility, coordination. No high level athlete such as pro basketball or football player only does his exact motion to train, you have to push training beyond just playing. Wushu forms change your physiology to make you a much better fighter. It is elevated cross-training.
@wushu297 He is not fighting anyone in this video, but we can see his handspeed, power, agility, balance are all remarkable. Sounds like the makings of a very good fighter, which is what wushu forms training is for.
you know even if this form dosen't look like it wouldn't work "on the street". Chances are anyone with the body controll, strength, and agility it takes to perform like he did, would be more than able to wipe the floor with most anybody one would encounter on the street.
What do you think that the form is. It is building instinct through repetition of applicable movements. As well as serving as an encyclopedia of the techniques of that art so that it can be preserved, knowledge lost can be rediscovered.
@kirin42 most of the wushu forms wouldnt translate directly to the street, but i HEARD that long fist would probably be what you would want to know if you encountered a situation on the street - there are more direct strikes and blocks in this Long Fist than say Eagle Claw...
@kirin42 yes, not to mention, al the times he puts his hands up to block his face, etc., and going through fighting stances/ angles, i'm sure this practitioner would whoop some butt if trouble ever came his way, it would come out naturally.
boasting abt a certain style is just silly. A good fighter depends on body conditioning, speed, technique and instinct. I train with these guys in the video and Master Liu (doing the san lu in white) is my master.I also trained WingChun for 6 yrs in Canada. Both styles are great. Master Liu has both amazing style form and lethal fighting instincts.
I couldn't agree more with relaxandflow, as martial art practitioner / aficionado, we should respect other forms aside from the one we practiced. I believe we can always learn something from others.
i wish i could do this... then i wouldn't hav to worry bout college work... when my lecturer asks 4 my work, i can give him... a giant kick 2 the face!!! hehe =P
Well this sure looks really cool anyway and i'd love to learn it. But I don't really see how this style of fighting could do well against a guy off the street.
A quick way to learn how this style is used in real self defense is to simply attack the guy in this video so that he can show you techniques in context.
You guys, forms are just one of the many ways of training the body and mind. It is impossible to judge a person's fighting ability just by watching how they perform a form. And, have some respect for each other's styles/systems please. Both Long Fist and Wing Chun have their strong and weak points - as do any martial art. What matters is the quality of character you cultivate from training martial arts.
Your typical wing tsun 'artist' couldn't tear apart a wet paper bag. You guys get the short end of the stick on several points: 1) no fighting ability, 2) ugly forms, and 3) very little to practice (could learn the whole style in a month). The laughing stock of not only the chinese martial art community but all fighers, everywhere... but I suppose I agree with you on this one, this guy probably isn't a very good fighter.
1) Wing Tsun is a short system which requires tons of practice to fight with. I've seen some that can FIGHT very well. Before you ask, no WT is not what I practice. 2) This guys form is pretty, but there is no martial intent. Its quite obvious that he learned it for wushu competitions rather a way to practice & remember fighting applications.
Where did you heard that from? First of all, Norther Long Fist can't beat up Yong Chun Quan. Secondary, he was not beaten by a guy who learned Shaolin Long Fist.
