@DarkCROWgaming The lower the light, the slower you set shutter speed & resolution. Don't expect to film in these conditions at 1080p 60fps, I was just lucky (720p would be better). So you shoot in 30fps. The camera has a light sensor for night shots & you use it to pre-set your light for darkest area & lock it in. There is no perfect vidcam on market that's cheaper either. So you have to maximize your skills w/ what you have. I don't have $1000's to spend, only $100 & I'm happy w/ what I got!
@DarkCROWgaming Same basic model except the FH1A has added the new compressed Apple format iFrame (shitty btw) and it's just 8mp instead of 10mega pixel. I was going to wait to get the newer model and am now glad I opted for buying just the plain FH1. But if you're not into higher quality or have a Mac computer the FH1A might be a better choice. It is also running much cheaper too. Under $300 on Amazon right now!
@DarkCROWgaming You won't find one w/o "a". But I just talked to my friend who has the new one. We compared results & for the price you can't beat the new one. You do get faster slow motion frame rates w/ it. For Full 1080P 60fps there is no cam out that beats it. You'll need to work on learning to use the auto focus & it can be tricky. Also because such hi definition & lack of optical stabilization, you'll need a pistol grip or stabilizer of some kind to take optimal video!
@DarkCROWgaming My friend says it's better but I say if it is, it's not much. It's not an older tape version Canon w/ outstanding low light, but it's not bad either. You can add a light w/ a pistol grip from ebay for a few bucks and it works to stabilize it better too. Also I'd like to add that the HD2000a is worth a look. It has a better larger aperture lens and a light shoe for low light. It's a pistol grip which us Americans don't seem to go for like Europeans and in Asia!
@kroneage Although this camera is fairly straight forward and easy to use, you will need to really get into it's features & learn to compensate for it's deficiency in better manual settings. In time you learn to trick the focus into getting what you want. But also remember this cam is best in bright light at 1080p 60fps mainly because there are so few that can do it and none in it's price range! :D ...Bright Sharp Detailed Action is what it's best at catching and there it's the King!
@chillart02 I've put my Sanyo FH-1 through HELL! Still runs awesome. Even after a 1 & 1/2 month Europe/UK trip. It's been in extreme conditions including lightning storms (btw EMI can kill DV cameras) & still works great. Once you know how to use auto focus techniques to zero in, it's all good w/ practice. Quality is amazing for a cam in this price range. Nothing else that can do 1080p 60fps unless you pay $1000 US. You got a bargain! ...just add a pistol grip off ebay $5 to $10 & you're set! ;)
Make a test video about how well it makes video in day light outdoor, night time or in the dark, shaking and taking picture please for viewers.I like the best color of all camcorders it have.
@DevinmagicTV Yeah it's great!! but if you want more than Stereo audio recording, this camera isn't for you. It's not hotshoe pluggable, nor does it have an external mic jack. As it is though, it still goes far beyond the needs of any ordinary household camera!! It's not quite a pro camera - and not quite a household camera, somewhere in between, even though the resolution and framerate is still better than the pro cameras from any other manu.. bar Panasonic and Red One, at half the price!
@kroneage My main gripe about it is that it has all the manual functions in the world... but doesn't have physical manual functions, so you have to fiddle through the menus - bit of a pain in the bum. Also, you can't change any of the settings while recording. With that said... the auto-focus is absolutely the best I've seen and works well in 90% of situations w/moderate lighting. It has a built in super macro mode to boot!! works awesome and doesn't require a diff lens!
@kroneage What I mean is, you hardly ever have to use the manual functions unless you want to get creative with focus or focal/exposure combos. It creates its own nice bokeh effects automatically in super macro mode. You couldn't really ask for more in a $300 to $400 camera!
@DevinmagicTV ahh that's usually the lens cap slapping against my attachable pistol grip mount when I forget to put it in its holder on the grip. oops. Both of the videos I have here were test videos made on my first day of using the camera.
@DevinmagicTV Took this, when I was first learning to operate the camera. The camera itself doesn't make ANY NOISE. You have no motors running, drives or tapes turning or anything else in the camera. It's like a Cell Smartphone, it's silent. The built in mic is completely isolated. But as w/ every other manufacturer of cams under $1000 w/o the option of an external mic, you won't get that kind of quality without ONE!
The mic is GREAT and you should try before you buy anyway! :D
@PresidentOfTheBlack haha..... this is 720p! It's impossible to upload the 480mb 1080p file and have it play even close to original quality! ...but thanks for watching!
@PresidentOfTheBlack BTW.... I stopped in to your channel watched some vids and thumbs up'd them. I agree with many of your points of view! ....thanks again!
Yes!!! ....every other frame is dropped and it contains less detail as well. Original file is 455mb. Here on YouTube, it's down to 55mb!
Not even close to original quality!
Even now, they allow uploading 1080P and it's displayed in 1080P but 60FPS has every other frame dropped and quality is reduced as well. It's why it appears to stutter as compared to original 1080P 60FPS!
Really? :DDD ...well it's about time. We phones now shooting 1080P. But it still won't be 60fps and that's what makes this camera special!
1080P 30fps is standard, but then they are dropping every other frame on these videos and that's what you see here more than the 720P compared to 1080P! Sorry! .....but yeah it will certainly be better than this!!!
IMPORTANT QUESTION, are the file sizes of the videos on this camera crazy huge. like will it take a really long time to upload full HD vids to the computer!?
This file comes out at over 400MB held on 16gig SDHC clas 6 cards. But here on YouTube I pre-convert to what they use. So on here it's 60mb file! That's a lot of data being thrown out the door! Originals are displayed straight through HDMI to my 65" HDTV and it plays it better than my computer! :D
You will want to have a partition or ext. drive just for Videos and pictures!!!
is this a camera which you recommend for outside and inside use? i am wanting to get a camera and film somethings i take film courses. but dont own my own camera yet. i want something durable. but still good image
This has decent low light capability, but this is in near dark after the sunset. Indoors w/ normal lighting, is passable. But you'll need additional lighting besides room light at some point.
The Quality compares decently w/ cameras costing $1000 more. Yes the only other Pro-sumer camera that can shoot 1080P at 60fps is a Canon MK5.
But if I could do this over again, I'd go for the pistol grip VPC-HD2000! Better low light slightly bigger lens, cold shoe for light, stable & easy to handle!
@MaxMultimediaHD The reason is that, that is why it is more expensive. Otherwise it'll be the same camera specs in just a different configuration. The reason Sanyo made the FH1, was the American doesn't like their Pistol Grip Camera Line. Everywhere else in the World the HD2000 sells better and FH1 isn't even offered in Japan.
Finally.... we are talking about the size of the aperture, not just the diameter of the lens thread. Remember smaller # is better on aperture!
Yes..... it's Wondershare on this and I only down converted it to play on YouTube HD 720p. I use both Linux and Windows programs, depending on what fits my needs according to editing or just conversion. I'll send a link!
Hi, I'm really intrigued by the VPC-FH1 and thinking about picking one up. Was wondering if you can point me in the direction of the $5 video light you're talking about.
Also what did you manual focus or let the camera do that. What did you use in post? Is this Final Cut or something else?
Pistol grip Light shoe brackets $5 on ebay. Lights go for from 10 to $40. Mine ran $12 used (new $40). I needed more light, so bought a 60 LED camp light & mounted it to the bracket w/ video light on shoe. Remember these lights only help indoors or in close ups outdoors. You'd need huge floodlight to do any better outside. This vid was shot in near darkness, sun had set 15min B4 w/no light on.
Focus is done by moving/centering on an object on vids. Pics can be manually focused. No F/C!
I'm at 49* North, twilight runs longer. Moon was majority of light.
Personally, if I had to do over, I'd buy the VPC-2000 Pistol Grip Dual Cam. Less than $100 more w/ bigger lens (40.5 compared to 37mm), built in light shoe & External Mic Input.
Americans tend not 2 like Pistol Grip Cams, but they're much easier to keep stable than traditional cams like FH1. The larger lens gathers more light + builtin shoe is great. I'll film gear & up load it. Hav 6 progs 2 edit w/ this is convert only!
Yeah...., they don't accept 1080p. Everything is converted to 720p so everything is half what you give them in resolution. Plus frame rates are cut in half as well. So with this Sanyo HD 1080p 60p (60fps) camcorder YOU people don't get to see the true high quality I see on my HDTV or computer for that mater! :O
But there is a growing demand for 1080p on the web. But since this cam is one of very few offering full 1080p 60fps recording, it'll be awhile for that! :D
Lots of free programs for Linux and Windows. But not too many of those that run on Mac OS-X, unfortunately. Although I have one that might work to convert into a format your programs will accept.
I'll send an address for you to download it in PM! :D
I'm not saying that a hole Film is in 24fps clearly slow mo is 60 upwards in order to get slow mo Although it is mastered at 25 or 30fps. Martial arts movies fight scenes have been filmed in variable frame rates for decades. this is common knowledge. Whats your point. The fact is in film 24fps is is king. People spend lots of time and mony trying to emulate film. Manufacturers sell cameras that are capable of producing film like qualities on video at a premium because of that very reason.
Mastered on film or tape to fit Theatre Projectors, being replaced w/ variable fps digital projectors capable of 3D/4D like my games. The Digital age of unlimited storage w/ instant access on SSD's is here, w/no spinning. BD is doomed!
For 100yrs film ruled & tapes 24p crown is gone as well. Digital put the nail in 24p's coffin the day Red One produced a CMOS sensor/engine w/near unlimited frame rates, tied to SSD storage. Alas, something neither film or tape can duplicate at any price! ;)
Oh and this video???.... proves that, ....if you take every other frame out of anything recorded, you are bound to see it! haha... even if it's still faster than 18fps! :P
TV is only capable of displaying images at 25fps or 30fps respective. The human eye is only capable of distinguishing movement at 18fps. Think that one over before convincing yourself that you're watching better quality 'smoother' video. Most major motion pictures are shot in 24fps and even the latest big digital movies like Slum Dog Millionaire were in 25fps at a rez of 4K.
Slum Dog is just a dog, shot on old tech Silicon Imaging SI-2K cam at 2k not 4k. Only cam capable of 4k is Sony's. Newest films are being shot at 1080P 2K 60fps or higher. The days of 24p are gone!
Being a gamer, I see the diff on my 65" 1080P HDTV at 120KHz on games running less than 60fps. At 18fps they'd give me a headache & 3D would be an unwatchable waste of my time. My puter hardware can run 200fps on my HDTV & I see a major diff between 30 & 60fps. To a Gamer 18fps is a joke! Sorry :P
Oh and FPS on Slum Dog? All these new cams are variable rate. Not fixed, buddy. All action scenes are filmed at a higher rate for seamless viewing and/or slow motion effects! xD ....rendering out at upto 1080P or 720P at 74fps for slow motion!
Red One's Red Scarlet Pocket Cam shoots at 3K rates 1 to 120fps (w/burst to 180fps) and 1080P 60fps is a piece of cake at just 6x my FH1's price! :P
Don't see the point uploading video like this. I can see the camera is fantastic, but this type of video on utube is always a waste. This is shaky and stammered and in no way demonstrates quality. I appreciate that the 60fps is great but the other slo-mo speeds are at very small resolutions and thus little more than a gimmick. Sick of websites describing 60fps as giving smoother 'pro' video. Rubbish. The 'pro' frame rate in the UK is 25 and 30 in the US. 60fps is great for slow mo on it's own.
I'm going to make this simple for your moronic mind to absorb. 1st w/ your own posted video. That suffers from the same YouTube Stutter & it's a Professional clip YT screws up!
This video is a TEST w/in a week of owning this FH1 (1st HD cam). WHICH unless you're completely Oblivious to the World of HD videos, records like those for iMax at 1080P 60FPS & does it for under $500 (unlike Canon's MK5). Now go ask a friend to slap your ass wiped face silly! ;P even I can see it's not my orig vid!
This video doesn't do it justice. I love so many things about this camcorder/camera. Hi speed slow mo of 240fps and 600fps along with the Full 1080P 60fps is phenomenal. But I'm getting addicted to buying more lenses and I have a pistol grip that attaches out to screen side making it really stable w/o a tripod sitting on a $15 stabilizer bar that belts to your waist!
My birthday is the 29th and I'm saving up to buy this. It might take another few months though, since I probably wouldn't have enough money. Where do you see all the accessories? This camera is so good, it looks awesome when you don't view it in HD!
Get access. on ebay and I'm starting to see these Camcorder/Camera's for less than $400. Slow Motion capture is fabulous. The pistol grip video light was $5 on ebay and get both Wide Angle and Telephoto converter lens for less than $40 on ebay. I don't have those yet, though! :S
Sorry, I'm a student hick living in the sticks & scrapped the money together for this as it is!
the video quality can only go to 720 >.>

MaxMultimediaHD 2 years ago
Oh?..... so you don't know much about these cameras... eh? :P
VPC-HD2000
10x optical zoom lens; Aperture: F=1.8(W) 2.5(T)
VPC-FH1
10x optical zoom lens; Aperture: F=2.0(W) 2.8(T)
If you buy an adapter lens, better NOT get the wrong one! lol.. ah.. Mr. MaxMultimediaHD haha
VPC-HD2000 takes a 40.5mm thread and VPC-FH1 takes a 37mm thread. Meaning the 2000 can gather more light than FH1 AND don't forget the shoe! :P
BTW.. look up F-stop N=F/D smaller number better light! :P
kroneage 2 years ago
you know why the HD 2000 has a bigger thread?
it is because of the part which is around the lens of the HD2000 is says "Xacti HD Lens" and other things... on the FH1

gizmodo. com/379530 take out the space! xD

This is awesome... I want this camera so badly.

It's a killer setup now!!! :D

Wow. Can I have it? LOL!

I hope it gets in a reasonable price range for me... I want to see the slow motion in action!
