  • Maybe someone could answer a question I have about kettlebells:since it requires nerve strength isnt the state of overtraining an issue?Been training myself 3 years with the giryas and I have noticed it really hits your central nervous system unlike the bodybuilding type of training or running etc

  • Jimmer, and WKC:

I didn't practice GS, but as an RKC instructor I see the difference in terms of GPP and SPP.

GS focuses on Specific Physical Preparedness - do a few specific exercises (snatches and jerks) as good as physically possible.

RKC focuses on General Physical Preparedness - build a solid foundation for your sport-specific activities, or generally, you know, life...

Hardstyle Kettlebell, as practiced in the RKC system is not competitive.

  • @ndydck But the problem with this logic is a low level Kettlebell Sport Athlete is much more "generally prepared for life" than any RKC. Kettlebell Sport is specific, but the few exercises if done even in a less devoted way will generally prepare you more than you can imagine. They are simple movements. Bend over. Put arms over head. No matter how you cut it, when someone does more reps, weight, and time, they have more general and specific.

  • that's got to kill the shoulders and the grip on the descent.. .

  • @hypnosquirrel not if it's done properly. I'm not saying it's easy but when the weight isn't just dropped but swung backwards, it does make a difference.

  • this is incredible and my new goal!

  • Lastly, I promise!! Where the teachings of say the RKC differ, is that they, instead of aiming for ultimate duration, predominantly focus on using the Kbell as a powerful training tool. Techiques differ, because the ultimate aim is different. In short, poor technique and lack of commitment won't get you far in either discipline, believe me!!

  • That's the problem with the logic jimmer, these "softer" techniques only look softer because they are smoother. I assure you they are much more explosive and harder than the hardest hardstyler. How do I know? Well, they lift heavier kettlebells than any hardstyler. They lift faster than any hardstyler too. While it is true the aim of the hardstyler is different, it always puzzled me why, because the sport lifters out-perform them whether it's about fast reps, heavy weights or time.

  • In short, the sport or traditional styles have at their core, conservation of energy and therefore ultimate duration. The "softer" techniques used by these guys are all about not wasting any energy save for that required to complete the action. Why snap the hips hard if you don't need to, you're only wasting energy. These competitors aren't in this to build physique or improve fitness, but they sure as hell reap those rewards believe me!

  • So much KB technique confusion is mainly the result of the difference between the Girevoy sport style as shown here where the main emphasis is upon number of reps completed within a given time and the more recent RKC styles who emphasise shorter, more explosive techniques with lesser reps. Both styles have their merits, but having studied and trained in both camps this Girevoy sport, I believe to be the more technical and ultimately challenging side of kettlebell lifting.

  • i want to see their hands....

  • none of these guys appear to be using much of a hip thrust

  • I thought the snatch was more of a lifting motion versus swinging.

  • yeah I was taught that you should generate energy from the hip thrust, and use your arms only for guiding the motion of the kettlebell. but it seems to me that all of these guys lift the weight with their arms. so what now, can somebody explain?:)

  • maybe their hips are so explosive they only need the slightest motion? kinda like a boxer can deliver knockout power with the turn of his foot

  • or since kb lifting is such a free-for-all competition, any random dude with bad mechanics can get in

  • well they are 70 lbs, so obviously they are using mostly hips...i mean try or just imagine trying raise a 70lb bell w/ out lower body...near impossible

  • Either way Metal this is true conditioning:D

  • just because you haven't seen it before doesn't mean it's odd or anything. or are you ignorant? please check out the history.. and have you tried kettlebells?

  • like Olympic lifting or powerlifting is better? Discus is an olympic sport.

  • Great video! I remember how tough that is from the competitions I did. Nowhere close to their #s though

  • I agree with you, this is just a nightmare. I tried doing this with Dumb-bells. When I finished I could barely move.

  • You know I've done them with dembells and kettlebells before, and they are WAY easier for me with kettlebells. I think because when I'm using the kettlebells I get to twist more at the wrist as I'm pulling the bell up over the head.

  • you can go strait over the top you don;t have to twist at the wrist

  • jus728 - learn about Girevoy sport and why they corkscrew the kettlebell down out of the snatch.

  • these guys have gotta be some strong sob's to be competing in this competition
