The welsh asembly is looking at running some of the local service out of cardiff with emus if the gw mainline is electrified from London to Swansea. Maybe we could grab a few of these units and use them instead of sending them for scrap

Fantastic stuff - 5*! As you can probably guess I'm a big fan of this design of trains. Sadly I've not had the chance to do the 314s yet, but hope to just before or after Christmas. JF991, I agree with some of your points - they're not perfect, but they still soldier on regardless. That's what I like about them!

Shame really, they are like the 508s in my area although they run from 3rd rail, but same traction motors. Ive gotta see some of these, do they operate around Edinburgh or Glasgow?

hey mate:) just around the glasgow area and the west of scotland around glasgow

you will see them at glasgow central ..some goto gourock from there .. and glasgow to neilston is only 314's and the cathcart circle they leave and arrive at glasgow central mate:) *has a look at the 508's*

I got on my first 314 just earlier this year...to be honest i wasn't impressed as much because the one i was on was uncomfortable and smelly :( but other than that i enjoyed it...and i was surprised by the lack of door controls. I assume the driver does it?

aint been on a smelly on yet pheww or at least not in some years . i think alot wouldnt be impressed by it unless you been using such for many many years also the sound of it reminds people of the 303 abit in just over a year they will all be gone ..just like the 303's i do hope at least one unit gets saved somewhere

To be honest they are rather grotty and uncomfortable inside, Especially if you compare them to the other trains on the scotrail network (170, 318, 334 etc) They havent been updated in probably over 10 years becuase they are planning on scrapping them soon. Im not a fan of these trains at all, after about 30 mins it hurts my neck due to the lack of headrests, and the lack of door controls means that all the dorrs open on freezing cold days :(
