Swallows were originally sailors tattoo's symbolising being close to shore, or being near land - home, safety etc.
Swallows were also worn on both hands which were meant to make you punch quicker in a brawl.

I would hate getting a tattoo like above my chest or my upper back bcause if when u get married it'll show and look wierd or tacky.

Actually they're starlings and in the early days of tattooing, people would get starlings because they believed that they would carry their soul to heaven when they died. The stars....because chicks dig stars!
