One of the most impressive games on the SEGA MEGA CD! For sure it pushes MCD to its limits! I love the parts where you are getting closer and closer to the giant planet or spaceship and you see the glorious sprites in full scale!!! =)
It is sad ut because I this I decided to go out an buy a Sega CD and I also went ahead and got a 32X. I could not be happier. I got Soul Star and it was a great as I rememberd it! Underrated game and system :(
DAMNED RIGHT! I considered this game's music score the JOHN WILLIAMS quality music score for the mega system. I ripped this game off my game cd and put on a cd and play off my ps3 music player (*you know, with thw earth scenery and stuff!) then later put it on my ipod touch.
I only had the demo of this and battlecorps but they both rocked like! Good quality games, should bring a retro pack out for the new systems with them on it. Just for the music alone it's worth buying!
Mega CD / Sega CD had good scaling capabilities that were better than SNES's Mode 7, because it did actual sprite scaling, but it wasn't as good as Sega's own 'SuperScaler' scaling in their arcade games.
Nevertheless, the Mega CD's scaling capabilities finally turned the Mega Drive into the true arcade level home console it should've been from the start.
And BTW, "SuperScaler" might be able to scale lots of sprites, but it can't provide tilted surfaces such as the moon's surface in SoulStar (or even just the tracks in F-Zero for that matter). ;-)
looked for this game forever but never founda copy. thanks for showing me what I missed
I love games with big pixelated sprites + I love games with gothic graphics, this motherfucker was right up my alley. Did it play as good as STARFOX or what?
I own this game and it still rocks... it has to be played in hard mode to see all levels and i have to say the last one, metafus, has a very intense play and music... if you like shooters u have to try this one..
This reminds me so much of Galaxy Force II in the arcades. It would have been cool if Galaxy Force II & Power Drift came out on Sega CD, but somehow I doubt the hardware was strong enough to handle Power Drift (which used four 68000 processors in the arcade).
yup I think I used to own this game long time ago and the music kicks ass too. the background are in mode 7 much like f-zero,etc its not in polygons like starfox which requires more calculations through the hardware.
A truly big game for the MegaCD from the days, where Core Design actually made good games. What's wrong with them nowadays? It's a really sad story. I think the game did not only came too late in the Mega CDs lifespan, but it generally came out for the wrong console.
I think it saldy came out a bit too late inthe Mega CD life time . Had it came out in 1993 it could have been so diff. Saldy when this game came out , all the talk was of the Saturn and Playstation . Shame though this game along with Batman Returns shows what the Mega CD could really do, and it wasn't the hump of junk some love to make it out to be
This game is great, I wonder why it didn't get any attention back in the day? I discovered it just recently.. It's kinda like Star Fox but smoother and much better looking.
This or the first Star Fox.......
I'll go with this. At least it has more than just shapes.

Galaxy Force II & Power Drift arcade games both run on Sega's 'Y Board' hardware, which has three 68000 processors, not four.

My bad. You're right. I love those games.
