If you know someone thats's got a Maltese that's had puppies and just wants a good home for them you might get lucky, private party sales can be as low as a couple hundred $. Whatever the cost they're worth it, they are a sweet natured cuddly little dog that loves affection.

Good pets, but depends from person to person, you need to make them social or they will hate everyone around them at older age, protecting only their owner.
I know 2 grandpa types who have them and both those dogs show teeth to everyone but their owner, kinda sad, I love dogs, and always pet them when I visit people, but those dogs are just scary :o.

@fuzzytoejam They can be playful but mostly just love curling up in your lap for a nap. They are very yappy though beware. Its not something that can be trained they are naturally just yappy dogs. I love them though!

@Yuffie3982 A purebred show-quality maltese does generally run from 1k upwards. If you got it for 600, it might be from a backyard breeder or it might not be fully maltese. 600 is really not very much for a maltese.

They are a trouble free dog as far as health problems but they are very expensive unless you know someone having puppies.
They typcally cost a thousand dollars or more, I've seen them for $1500+ in pet stores.

that's true. the maltese populationis arond 400,000-500,000. in summer the poplation is twice as much. as incredible as it may seem, we're way over populated! it's kind of ironic that there aren't many maltese dogs in malta! shitzus are quite

@Yuffie3982 A purebred show-quality maltese does generally run from 1k upwards. If you got it for 600, it might be from a backyard breeder or it might not be fully maltese. 600 is really not very much for a maltese.

I've owned a dog before but never had a Maltese, but I am happy to have just adopted a 1 year old Maltese who seems very sweet and he should be with me soon! They are gorgeous little animals!!!
