  • Very important video with a great message.

These majestic animals need to be free.

  • Just as Sea World lies about their animals being happy, living longer in captivity, and having flopped-over dorsal fins in nature, they originally claimed Dawn slipped into the water and drowned. This woman was practically scalped. Her arm was ripped off. Tilikum had to be lifted out of the water before he would even drop her body. You will never hear the truth from these scum. Their money for "conservation" goes to legal pressure, to be able to contuinue to steal wild animals.

  • @orlandobabe, orcas are not hunted or eaten by humans. Granted, they are now full of PCBs in the wild, thanks to humans, but to say they're better off in chlorinated water in tanks under 40 feet deep where their sonar bounces off the concrete walls and drives them insane and are forced to do repetitive, boring tricks for an unnatural diet and are punished by isolation is insane. The only positive in Tilikum's life at this point is that captive orcas' lifespans are cut by more than half.

  • Saying that captivity is safer for these animals is like saying that jail is safer for a human being. Such bullshit!

  • Sea World is a sick business

If people wouldn't go to these cruel shows it would stop the murders

  • I totally agree with Cousteau, I wish the whales and all animals in captivity were freed to be what they are suppose to be. But crap! If it were for those who destroyed their homes and habitates or kill them for food, or the pleasure of it or worst to make a bigger profit of them. It seems like captivity is a safe but unhappy home for them.

  • im in! lets free the orcas!

  • I wonder how much he's getting paid to read that statement off a screen.

  • Go to facebook page " London against cetacean slaughter" we're trying to get as many people and organisations together to make a stand. Put an end to captive whales and dolphins! Find out more by visiting our page. like it to keep up dated! - "London against cetacean slaughter"

  • If you go to Care2.com and search the keywords Orca and SeaWorld you will find a petition that YOU CAN SIGN TO HELP SET THESE BEAUTIFUL AMAZING ORCAS FREE!

  • He hits the nail on head.

  • orcas should not been kept in fish tanks they should be left in the wild where they belong. orcas are just being used for profit by sea world and co. something more should be done to stop such acts it upsetiing to learn how these animal lives are short lived. There is a new scientific article out check it out on the whale and dolphin conservation society's website then maybe the more nieve of you will wake up and realise whats going on behind closed doors

  • Thank you MR.Jean Michel Cousteu.

Your words make open people's eyes to the truth. Your dad would be proud of you. Thank you very much

  • Jean-Michel Cousteau spoke at my school last month in Chicago and I was glad he talked about how wrong captivity is for these intelligent, social beings - whales and dolphins. I don't support confining marine mammals to tiny barren concrete tanks to perform for human entertainment! Not one bit!

  • OMG LET THEM FREEEE FUCK SEA WORLD

  • Beautiful message, well said...

  • Yes i agree these splendid ainimals are not a stupid attraction for turists!!!!!!!!!

  • orca...a.k.a. killer whales...why are we surprised they attack people?

  • I'm booking a surprise for my family I did my research at bestvaluethemeparks (.) com

  • yes

  • Dawn was in the same position that the accident happend a few months when she had shorter hair and nothing happen But because when she had longer hair tiliy prob.thought it was a pieice of fish, then dawn pulled it back and thought it was a game of TugOfWar that he was bound to win then thats when came to the water and he was never use to swim with a trainer so he grab her he was prob. trying to play rough with her like he does with the other orca cause he never had a toy when he was a baby in SL

  • @eightbelow11 I doubt he thought it was a game of tug-of-war. With the intelligence of these animals, I'm sure Tilikum was more than conscious of what he was doing, considering the state her body was in afterwards. And it wasn't just because of her hair. Tilikum is a dominant, adult, bull orca - and like with bull elephants in circuses - prone to violence because of his hormones and the fact he is physically imprisoned in a small area, away from the rest of the pod...

  • @peepchick101 Dawn was in the exact same position with tilly months before her death & even other months or years.. Yeah they are intelligent and he was having his horomones.. but i'm pretty sure he was playing a came with her at first then when she was at the water he had no controll. Not because he is imprisoned in a small area away from his pod ..

  • @eightbelow11 Huh? Whales definitely perform at Sea World. I'm sure you've seen one of the shows... These majestic, social creatures belong in the wild. There should be a world-wide ban on capturing whales and dolphins from the wild.

  • @OceanFuturesSociety Yes, But What would happen if we freed All of them in the wild ???

Like how keiko didnt go further with the other orca pods.. And like how corky 2 needs meds and if she doesnt take them she wouldnt see and could die..

And yes i do see them at seaworld and the whales dont have to perform.. Its just part of their excercise.. like how orcas in the wild are force to swimm Far and Far in the ocean to find food...

  • @eightbelow11 One way forward would be to stop breeding dolphins in captivity, thus reducing the necessity to keep dolphins in captivity. this could benefit seaworld in terms of goodwill, it would also be beneficial as the clock would be ticking for those who still want to go to these "shows" and be "entertained". The shows would gradually be phased out as the captive dolphins die. Breeding dolphins for "entertainment" & profit is hard for many to stomach, do you disagree?

  • @gally50 Seaworld is trying to slow down breeding dolphins, they started breeding dolphins long ago because their population was decreasing and didnt want them to extinct. Like for example in Blue Horizons all the dolphins their are males .Seaworld gives the Bestest Health Quality Care to these Dolphins. And when i first came to seaworld i only wanted to see these amazing creatures in person I mean i even got the experiance interacting with one. So not every one just didnt want to be entertained.

  • @eightbelow11

Sea World is not 'slowing down' breeding their dolphins or orcas, despite the fact most are inbred now. In fact, they are trying to breed them faster than ever currently. And they didn't start breeding them, really, until the 1980s (just 30 years ago!). Up until that time, most of them were captured from their homes and families in the wild. Additionally, Sea World does nothing to help wild populations of dolphins (ie they dont breed dolphins to better the species/let them free).

  • @peepchick101 yes, probably a small percentage of them Inbred which are one's that are not fully related like for an example of Keto & Kohana ..... Keto's father is kotar which makes takara and Keto Half blooded then takara got kohana from tilly so if you think about at least they werent born from the same mom or dadTheir are some parts of captivity that help protect species in danger like BigCatResuce they rescue big cats & and protect them in captivity or lets them free if there ready like SW.

  • @gally50 Plus ; i got to see a baby whale with its mother together and i thought it was amazing; just swimming and trainers giving fish to katina and giving her attention. So i didnt need the entertainment. I Just love sseing them with their trainers giving them love and the orca family play around under water. And they still round up to be entergetic. Plus they do shows Because Its like Their exercise! Like how in the wild they have to swim swim miles in the ocean thats like walking in miles

  • @eightbelow11 i know what im gonna reply might sound harsh and im sorry: how about we put u between 4 walls with no escape and trained you to perform tricks as exercise? walking a mile between the 4 walls would be the same to you as walking a mile in a forest or a park or on a beach free??? please think before you talk.

  • @mahjabeenadam Seaworld Doesn't just lock up whales in one room. They actually Open Gates so that the whales can swim where ever they want(except main tank & tilly's tank.but what i heard is that their starting to let trua(tilikum's grandson)spend more time with him.And i would see the 2 baby whales coming in and out from the SUC.The Tank is large enough for both tilikum and the other whales.Trust meh i was their and the tank made tilikum look abit smaller. And its their chioce to perform.

  • @eightbelow11 Their choice to perform? No... it is their choice if they want to be fed. If it was their choice, they'd still be in the wide oceans, not trapped in these pools performing tricks for our amusement.

  • @winchester369 Yes exactly their choice to perform i mean we humans can't control these amazing creatures ..

Plus , its not like trainers feed breakfast or lunch or dinner to them if they do a trick they actually have mealtimes for them like they feed breakfast 4 them before the show lunch then dinner later in the day ..

Yes they still give them fish as a treat.or like a snack , and not only do the killer whales like to eat alot of fish but also love Massages like a nice pat/rub in the back

  • @eightbelow11 Which, trainers do for them during shows ; and like i said about mealtimes they also have massage time too after shows too. Plus Its not really for our amusement... its actuallyy for exercise and people who come to seaworld actually get amused by seeing them up-close cause thats how i am when i visit seaworld. Some of these whales even enjoy one of the behaivors by doing them ramdomly to the Audience without trainers using their signs 4 them .The ocean may be wide but not perfect.

  • @eightbelow11 seriously? ur comparing 'tanks' with the open ocean??? have u been to the ocean?have u seen whales in the wild? do that and then say this again.

  • @mahjabeenadam And are you thinking the possible deaths for these whales if they do get set free to the wild...??

The ocean maybe Be HUGE but its clearly not the safest place in the world..

I Love the Wild But i also love seaworld . And these tanks are suitable for them they can even swim to each tank if they want!

They show no Feeling about it they just do some natural jumps in the water on their own and i would see the two calves chase each other underwater like other orcas do in the wild. .

  • @eightbelow11

1.Ok, i agree there is a danger to letting the one bread in captivity go by themselves. however, there is such a thing as rehabilitation, believe it or not!! they could be TAUGHT how to survive in the wild!!

    2. the ocean is not the safest place in the world for who? Orcas?? orcas are the top predators in the oceans, do some research. are u suggesting that we capture all orcas and put them in tanks so they can be safe?

  • @eightbelow11

    3. who are we to say that these tanks are suitable for them? we can't understand their language, and therefore their feelings. they have NO CHOICE byt to swim to each tank because that is all they have!

    4. the distractions provided by the open ocean can not be compared on any levels with a tank which has not got anything in it! im sorry! if u get to study them in the wild, ull see that.

  • @eightbelow11

i do understand that u love seaworld. id love to see orcas and i think a lot of people are like me. they are my passion! and seaworld allows you to do just that. but at what price? if taking these dolphins back to the sea will kill them as you say, then if they keep them in tanks and we decide that's best, then why take more orcas from the wild and bring them to tanks? why seperate them from their families?

  • @eightbelow11 they live together in the wild from the time they are born to the time they die! can u imagine being taken from your family and put in a room (tank) or a couple of rooms (tanks) for the rest of your life with stangers?can u imagine being trained to perform tricks? can u imagine having nothing in the rooms, no tv, no internet, no fridge? can u imagine having to eat only when trainers decide to feed you and however much they decide you need?

  • @mahjabeenadam First; Seaworld stoped capturing orcas Like 30 or more years ago?

Second; Orcas are Social Animals like we are .. i mean imagine if you were in a new school and u didnt know anyone but then u made friends with other people the next dayy [:

Yes ; and thats part of learning .. They get trained so that they have some excercises; learning ability & some indicate if they are well fit and healthy.

Actually during free time..Trainers give the whales massages bonding and Toys etc..

  • @eightbelow11 your comment on school should be replaced by prison :P which would be more appropriate in this case. schools are usually free places where we usually choose to be (or our parents/guardians chose it for us) for the orcas, its more like prisons honey. yeah i can soooo not imagine being in a prison and not having any friends and making friends the next day.

  • @eightbelow11 no matter how many friends i could make, it would not stop me from dreaming about freedom, about exploring the world, about my family, about a zillion other things that i cant get in a prison.........

  • @eightbelow11 Do you know how many orcas are bred (sometimes transient/meat eaters with a resident/fish eaters which would not mate together in the wild) to carry their calves and to have miscarriages or still borns after so many months of carrying them in their wombs? It's an awful thing to do to any animal. Orcas are social animals, yes, but the dialect differs between orcas around the world, there are many captive orcas from Iceland e.g. which can't speak the same language as some other orcas.

  • So two orcas from different parts of the world can't communicate to one another. Not to mention resident orcas usually spend the rest of their lives with the same pod that they are born in, so capturing them and separating them from one another in the first place was very inhumane, and this would be inhumane regardless of what animal it would be. And did you know that orcas can swim up to 100 km (62 miles) per day and no concrete tank or trainer can offer the exercise they need.

  • @mahjabeenadam Oh and Actually trainers have a scheldule for the orcas! Including Breakfast; Snackk(from shows) & Dinner!

Each orca evens has its own tray of food and their fish is actually resturant quality fish! :)

  • @eightbelow11 yes i do get your points, and i see where you are coming from because i loveeeeeee orcas and where i live i can't get to see any and i guess if i had a chance to go to seaworld and see them, that would be like probably a dream come true, so i hear u...i have to confess i would probably not hesitate and get really excited about going to seaworld if i ever go to that country.

but still...i see these creatures as magnificient and majestic in the wild!

  • @mahjabeenadam I am quite similar to you, in the way I feel about orcas but please do not go see them in captivity, you'll only be disappointed. It's been a dream of mine for many many years to see an orca and last year it came true. Too bad it was way too far to recognize by sight (I had a video camera with me, I managed to zoom in) but still, I know, I've seen a pod of them. And it'll remain my dream to get to be close to them, but never would I ever step foot in places where they're captive.

  • @eightbelow11 what they do in the wild and how they react on their own, without any training or prompting, this is what attracts me to them! they show a level of intelligence that amazes me! the things they do in the wild is what makes me against captivity! there is nothing equal to freedom. regardless of how many points anyone is going to bring forward!

  • @eightbelow11 FREEDOM AND CHOICE will always remain my best treasures! u know why? because i have been forced to live in some kind of 'prison' and now im free and know what its like, i can tell u there is nothing like freedom! its the best of drugs and the best of gifts! :))) thanks for this discussion. but until one experiences a situation where one feels what im trying to describe, then one understands the value of freedom. :)))))))))))

  • @eightbelow11 Yeah, fish filled with anti-stressed pills.

  • Yeah...right. *rolls eyes*

  • I've been to SeaWorld on three occasions, the first, I really enjoyed it, went home full of smiles and joy. The second time I went, I only just begun to realise how they treat their animals with little respect e.g. small holding tanks. The third time, I was disgusted at the way SeaWorld operated, humiliating animals for the sake of entertainment, e.g. the Killer Whale, top of the food chain, no known predators, made to perform in front of thousands, absolutely disgraceful and just wrong

  • You are so right. You're every bit the Frenchman Jacques is. I loved his science as a boy and I love yours as a man. Thank you.

  • Orcas are more beautiful in the wild than in the captivity

  • In Addition , yes they are a mighty ,beautiful magestic creature . But when you place it in captivity you are taking away its independence , the animal is now dependent upon its trainers to feed it . The animal was once at the top of the food chain is now being feed a dead salmon . Ive studied these goregeous creatures in the wild for many years and there is nothing more gorgeous and spellbounding in this entire world than watching a pod of Orcas hunting and spoting in the wild

  • Orcas are a socially driven species of the oceanic dolphin family . if said whale is realeased there is a very small chance it would be excepted into a pod . With that being said , captivity causes stress on any animal , dropping down the life expectancy of an orca from 80-90 to 30-40 ,and causing the deformity of the dorsal fin in males. There has been few attacks on humans in the wild ,none fatal. And in captivity over 2 dozen since 1970 some of which , fatal . Study them from A FAR !

  • ...

People who go to Sea World parks MUST have an open heart and mind to share in the connections other people or one will feel when seeing an orca jump from the water, knowing this animal is the top predator of ALL oceans and yet, humans have connections and relationships with them.

I will boldly say, to anyone who asks, that I will become a SeaWorld Orlando orca trainer and no one will EVER take my dream away from me.

    SEA WORLD AND SHAMU FORVER!!!!!!!

  • @narniaHP4ever An animal that is as intelligent as a human should not be kept a slave to do tricks to entertain people. No matter how good the care is, you can't provide the very things that shaped them into who and what they are: an infinite sea to roam, their family and friends, wild prey to chase. A desire to work at a place like that is misguided--if you love orcas, don't condone their slavery. There are other options, such as studying marine mammalogy in school and studying them in the wild

  • Sea World gives back too; over 45 years of rescue, rehabilitation and return of thousands of animals, Sea World parks are making a stand in protecting the ocean and its creatures. The sea has NEVER been in more capable and caring hands. Also, all of the trainers have a connection with these whales. It’s not a job or an occupation for them. The orcas are a second family to the whales; the orcas have taught them something that we may never learn until we open ourselves to the mystery of the ocean.

  • .....Sea World parks is the place to show how magnificent orcas and dolphins and false killer whales and sea lions are. Sure, someone can take a cruise at Alaska and see them in their natural habit. Great, that’s beautiful. But what if they don’t have enough money to go to Alaska and do that. I live in Florida and am fours hours away from Sea World Orlando. The shows and animals have touched me and I will NEVER BE THE SAME...

  • I disagree with most, maybe all of these comments. Sea World & Busch Gardens DOES NOT treat their animals badly and never will. And Sea World DOES educate people; they do it inside the park like in attractions and before the Believe show. It is up to the person to listen and understand what is being said. People must go to Sea World with an open heart and mind; because that is the only way anyone will EVER learn.....

  • FREAKY!!!

  • YEA!!!!! (except for the endangered ones that were left to die- thats an exeption)

  • I agree 2!

  • Orcas and dolphins, just like many other captive animals, you will notice take part in a variety of behaviours that symbolize stress and boredom. These include: Chewing (some orcas' teeth are extremely worn down from chewing concrete and bars), bobbing (similar to swaying, a behaviour common in chained elephants in the circus), and sulking (MANY captive orcas do this, whereas in the wild, they would constantly be moving and never lay idle).

  • I agree with this video completely. When it's a known fact that captive orcas only live half the lifespan of orcas in the ocean, it should be taken as proof that these animals aren't meant to live in such a small space.

  • I totally agree!!

  • I agree with you TOTALLY.

  • Comment removed

  • the only reasons why orcas are kept in captivity are the profit of the owners and the greed of silly and cheap entertainment

  • I'm sorry, but I disagree that the trainers are dedicated to the whales' care and wellbeing, if they were they would not foce them to do tricks. They train them by starving them, until they are so hungry the give in and do the trick to get some food. Nomatter how much the trainers claim to love the whales they work withthis type of degregation is wrong, and not an act of love.

  • @polkadotpants They dont do tricks because they are hungry! Hell if someone gave me my favorite candy everytime i flipped my tail id take it. Just because they do tricks for food dont mean there starving. Pretty sure if they were starving the whales would eat the people!

  • @polkadotpants i'm sorry to disagree with what your saying however this needs to be said. yes its true the animals get great care there-and are not starved. the companies involved with this degrading buisness are in a sense forced to take great care of them because if they didn't the animals would not be able to perform to their 'best' , and losing a dolphin is greatly expensive.

that being said though they do not belong as our prisoners. but people are to selfish to realize the harm its done

  • @DressageFreak I'll admit the word starved might be a little strong, but they don't feed them until they're satisfied, just enough to keep them alive, can you imagine living like that? In the wild the orca swim from hemisphere to hemisphere, they're natural born explorers and god only knows what they encounter on their travels, compare that to the Sea World tanks, cramped, bare, those whales are isolated and sensory deprived, it's disgusting what they endure for people's entertainment.

  • Comment removed

  • @polkadotpants lol i'm on your side. i know all about the way they live. i'm just saying its a fact that the animals there do infact get good 'care'. and i use quotations because that care may mean have ok health but not as healthy as wild dolphins would.i like to educate myself on both sides of the debate. look anywhere and i bet you can't find a place that starves them.

  • @DressageFreak - great care? you mean by keeping them in a confined space? I agree though that these animals should NOT be kept in captivity. They are exploited. SeaWorld is big business. To keep animals for amusement is a travesty. Somebody called SeaWorld an ABUSEMENT Park. Absolutely right.

  • @shanna1950 - i guess i didn't make it clear enough. what i mean is that they dont get starved and have vet checks to make sure they are ok so they dont get sick. like i said i'm 100% against the issue- i just like to know what goes on on the inside as well so i know where others come from who like this sort of enslavement. and that would be rick o'barry who called it an abusement park :)

  • If Sea World was really about the research, they would be nonprofit like all the other marine research groups out there. The REAL scientists are the ones who stay out in the bays, tracking orca pods, writing up their family history, and distinguishing the different dialects. Sea World is just a joke.

  • My god, knowing we have taken these amazing creatures from the massive ocean and stuck them into a fucking toilet bowl almost makes me feel too ashamed too call myself human. And to think ppl consider this amusement. I fucking hate people

  • There you have it....If the world doesn't listen to this man... then the only reason why they don't is because of one thing and one thing only....greed....It's time to move forward... it's time view these creatures in their nature environments not in these man made prisons man has created for their own pleasures... lets grow... Thank You Jean Michel Cousteau....

  • Seriously an amazing man. EVERYONE needs to watch this video.

  • As always...follow the money.

  • Dear Jean-Michel, Thank you so much for your comments. Open up their world to where it should be, EVERYONE, please. They should be free to live in their natural surroundings, instead of the false desires of human beings. It's a tragedy what happened, but it's a tragedy that a whale has live it's life in captivity.

My ID name is theonetheystalk; I chose this today because I am a victim of stalkers and have been for a long time; it is a prison to stalk a human being. It is captivity.

  • I hate all "Sea World"s.

True Sea World is out there.

Not in pools or tanks which stupid people made with their total stupidities.

  • Agreed. SeaWorld can survive without them. Add more rides and continue to educate the public another way. This can be done without captive whales and dolphins. I have been to SW a few times and the last visit was the eye opener. There isn't a tank big enough for these creatures except the ocean. Even though there are whales born in captivity, one can never remove the natural instinct inherent to the species. Mr. Cousteau couldn't make that argument any clearer than this.

  • well said jean-michel. it is just a tragedy, the suffering of these animals. it does not have to happen. no sea-world, no zoos, or circuses with animals for me.

  • Very touching video. He made some amazing points.

    When will this end?

  • @cubanews love you <3

  • @cubanews Only one thing: for some, very few animals (e.g. the Mauritius kestrel), zoos are the only reason there are ANY of them left. Zoos in the future should do what some of them have always done - protect animals that need protection. Totally agree that animals safe in the wild should be left in the wild.

  • @cubanews Zoos aren't necessarily bad, I used to be against them but some people do care for the animals and although there will always be a zoo that treats their animals wrong we can't judge all zoos because of one bad one. Captivity programs attempt to bring back a species and integrate them back into their natural environment. Those programs are often found in zoos, so boycott sea world and six flags for making their animals perform, not zoos.

  • yes the time has come..we have the facts now..no need to keep them in tanks..set them free..thanks for the times together...

  • There must be something we can do to orcas. There are 42 orcas currently held in captivity, dying slowly in small tanks and trained to entertain the "mob". It sounds like David vs. Goliath but, if we don't fight then nothing will ever change. The situation is unacceptable and it is up to us to save those magnificent creatures.

It may be complicated, as it was with Keiko, but it's worth it. Captive dolphins, belugas and orcas deserve to live a decent life where they belong, in the wild.

  • very true.

  • whatever they are like us or not like us,

let the whales be as they are.

  • I couldn't agree more.

    Thank you Mr. Cousteau.

I trully hope that all whales and dolphins will be free from men in a near future.

  • i simply never understand why there're so many stupid places like "sea world".

let the animals live their lives in thier own worlds.

  • Set the whales free....no debate......

  • Its great men such as you we Must start listening to fully for you know what is needed and the ways best we can accomplish the unfathomable tasks we must undertake and succed at now before its too late. I know I said it before but your great dad smiles on you and I am very grateful for all you do and will continue to do till your days are no more. Thank You Sir Jean !

  • So are you saying your dream is more important than the livelihood and well being of the orcas? Typical...

  • Time to let them go. If Sea World is serious about education, here is their big chance to shine. Take Tilikum and his whole pod and re-train them to the wild. They just can't let him go-no pod will accept a bull that old and big. We learned that with Keiko.

  • if everyone watched the documentary " The Cove" you would never go see a dolphin or whale show again. these animals belong in the wild not captivity.

  • Having worked in a zoo - driven by my love of animals -- I very quickly realized how inhumane caging, fencing or making them perform parlor tricks can be. What we do to animals as a human species is a testimony to our collective ignorance, arrogance, greed. Don't take children to zoos or SeaWorld for entertainment. Teach them the integrity of life and our interdependence on animals by experiencing nature -- while some parks and potable water still exist.

  • We don't need to know how animals live for nature to work. We should worry about how to live with other humans respectfully and peacefully, first, before we think it's our duty to teach Killer Whales, sea lions, tigers or lions how to be "just like us" and grow dependent on the trainers' ego-gratifying applause and stagelights for food. They don't have egos to "enjoy" performing. That''s a human projection.

  • Cannot imagine this expressed any better than this!

    Thank you!

  • serious words, but will they fall on deaf ears?! i hope not.

  • Thank you for this message. Thank you for speaking the truth.

  • nice message, we must be kind to the animals and let them live free in the wild.

  • Yes, The whale needs to be placed back into the wild, I agree and America should quit trying to get rich off everyone/ and everything..........

  • Bravo ..wonderfully said and all so so true.

  • Excellent video. All wild animals need to be in the wild.

  • Great video. It's time to end water prisons.

  • This was a very nice way of putting it. We do not learn from having these animals in such captivity. They need to be set free. This orca was caught in the wild when he was two years old, so it wasn't even bred in captivity. It's plain wrong to bring these animals in from the wild and lock them up for our enjoyment and for money. I highly encourage the release of these orcas into the wild. It may be fair to say that they'd rather die free than live for years locked up.

  • If we release Tilikum into the ocean won't he, being a smart animal with social behaviors, go tell all the other killer whales what we did to him and others and start a cetacean war agains the humans?

  • hear hear!!!

  • I agree these animals are beautiful creatures but do not deserve to be in captivity. I feel that they should remain with the whales they have and not replace them. these whales will not survive in the wild but they should not get any new ones because it will continue the pattern.

  • I really don't know why everyone is getting mad at the whale its a WILD ANIMAL that belongs in the wild not some stupid little water park to perform for our entertainment. The whales natual instict is to be in the wild free not with humans forcing them to do dumb tricks its very sad that it killed 3 people, but we also need to remember whales shouldn't be put in these places this is not the first and not going to be the last time this happens when wild animals are put in dumb parks.

  • What's sad is that these Whales can't be put back into the wild, they don't have a clue how to communicate with other whales, and how to hunt for food. These captive Whales been so dependent on humans for food, if they were released into the wild they're going to be so agitated and go up to any boaters with people on it that they may attack it to get attention to get food.

  • It's sometimes easy to discount the value animal theme parks have towards the message of conservation and preservation. I understand the moral objection people have to the keeping of such intelligent animals in captivity, however, parks such as sea world help educate the public about just how special these animals are and help them understand the importance of laws against whale hunting and sea sweeping, ect.

  • Sea World does not educate the public on whale hunting. And Sea World's shows lack a great deal of education. Their shows are all about entertainment and less about informing the public. If they really showed the world how important this animals are the Southern Residents wouldn't be on the endangered species today.

  • Well said, but who is going to listen huh!

Making money off these beautiful wild animals is a no brainer to the corporates, like keeping lions, monkeys, gorillas, elephants, all the exotic wilds animals in captivity, will that change...NO. so who will listen? Man/Woman, human beings we are so destructive to everything living thing around us. It's just so SAD.

  • woot!

  • kingston554. You must be one of the dumbest, most repulsive human being walking this planet!

  • free the fucking orcas!!!!

  • May Mr. Cousteau's statement reverberate and inspire change all over the world. Poignant and succint.

  • Don't get me wrong, I think it is wrong to keep any animal captive, including pets of any kind. If you really want to keep going make sure you don't eat anything with a face either! A baby songbird that grows up and has never heard another songbird sing, doesn't sing.

  • Uh....have you been to a Sea World show? If they don't make money off of it then why sell tickets? Selling tickets is making money. Building rollcoasters is making more money. And you say we're idiots...?

  • Seaworld is a multi million dollar corporation that is driven by money and greed. They care less for their own trainers than they do for the animals who are forced to entertain for food.

It's a disgusting circus, one that only we can end by petitioning the federal government to investigate this last attack and close down Seaworld before any more tragedies unfold.

This incident will probably be forgotten in a year's time, but the whales are suffering daily and have been for a long time.

  • Aren't privately owned? You must be joking... If they weren't privately owned they wouldn't need roller coasters to boost their profit. Animals are not meant to be in a cage. That's why no one likes going to jail.

  • it's government owned, can't just start your own zoo with wild protected animals. i don't know, jail wouldn't be that bad if i had cable tv, xbox 360 and hung out with megan fox.

  • What makes you say it's government owned? It may need to undergo a process by which the government allows them to bring in wild animals, but that doesn't mean it is government owned. SeaWorld is its own organization, that's why it's also affiliated with Busch Gardens. Oh and about your 360, I'm pretty sure some guy will "happily" take it before you can get to your cell. Sorry to shatter your dreams.

  • SCdarkAH +5 - gowplayer2 -13. Gosh you're really good at math huh :)

  • Nah I just like ticking off wannabe trolls like you :P

  • why dont the owners of seaworld understand this... but ooops they dont because money is more important then the lives of these awesome creatures!!!!!!!!..putting bums on seats is more important then letting them have the lives they deserve.. in the F*cking ocean not in fish tanks..thanks for uploading this video.. will the message ever get out to sea world.. NO IT WONT..:@

  • Thank you for this elegant, and perfectly stated, comment.

  • YEAH FREE THE ORCAS!

  • @AnimalExpert247 They cannot be freed, the ones in captivity are doomed to an early death if they are freed. But we CAN stop Seaworld from their UNNATURAL artificial insemination programme of breeding captive orcas as they can no longer capture them from the wild to fill their greedy pockets with blood money.

  • You are completely missing the point. Take a child on a whale watching tour. Sacrificing these complex mammals because people need to "experience" them is not right for the animal, or the audience.

  • I totally agree with his point, but I'm also interested to see what happens if we keep the ones in captivity that we already have in captivity; to see just how pathological "zoo whale" behavior becomes while reproducing in captivity. It's coming to the point where these multiple generations of captive whales should start showing signs of passing down traits through birth which were learned in captivity.
