She was also right in her assessment of how Asian Americans and Asians within their respective countries have a different perception of black women. Her hate against African Americans is not about race. It's about culture and socio-economic status. Being Black is different than being African. Blacks are like all other Americans, they are mixed with few ties to their original culture (same goes for American Whites). But the irony for me is, many that look down on blacks here forget about their own country's issues. @EthioCaramel Right. But most isn't crime and bad experiences. Perception plays a major factor. If you live in the hood of any city, you're going to get crime etc.. If you reside in a racist place, you're going to get that. Some people prefer to choose a comfort safety zone. I've seen this with minorities and whites. Minorities darker than me, but because they see me as black, there is this prejudice and perception.

@epics7 My family was based near Baltimore and we had many friends and family who did live in Baltimore for years and experienced 1st hand hostility from SOME AAs. Some of the fear factor comes from bad experiences though the media take that to a whole new level. My own uncle, a mini mart owner in Dallas was shot and killed in his own store by AAs for few $. Most Ethiopians in the US are scared of AAs hence they keep themselves to themselves. It is not often a case of looking down on AAs.

Similar to what we've been told about many black Africans for centuries. Some have that same inferior/superior complex that I see with minorities and A.A. I knew an Ethiopian when I was coming up. He was the only one that spoke to the blacks in that neighborhood.

That is why the official African Diaspora remittance is around 20 billion $ a year, unofficial figure according to world bank could be almost double this amount. Africans abroad send money and support their families, relatives, friends, own homes and businesses in Africa. We know all the problems there and most do their best to tackle them.

Us being black is the same difference as Ethiopians being black. Common bond again, mixed over the centuries. Some more extreme than others. Arab influence goes both ways. @EthioCaramel Right. But most isn't crime and bad experiences. Perception plays a major factor. If you live in the hood of any city, you're going to get crime etc.. If you reside in a racist place, you're going to get that. Some people prefer to choose a comfort safety zone. I've seen this with minorities and whites. Minorities darker than me, but because they see me as black, there is this prejudice and perception.

Additional reply. I have friends that are from Africa. Ghana is an example. I know about the animosity between them and Nigerians and have heard similar issues from A.A. here with them to back up my points about that door swinging direction. Anyways, my initial point is, the person who is the topic of discussion is projecting and under this disillusion because of her own insecurities. You're talking to someone that has been mistaken for Ethiopian more than once. By both blacks and whites.

She is 2nd generation Ethiopian American, probably never stepped a foot in Ethiopia so most Ethiopians do not understand why AAs are abusing Ethiopians because of her for we don't agree with her views. I disagreed with that and pointed out that there are several reasons like other minorities that do the same.That's where we parted on that topic. A lot of it is perception and what they have been told vs. facts. We've been told the same about you too. I'd mentioned your country because this same thinking comes from many natives too.

@epics7 My family was based near Baltimore and we had many friends and family who did live in Baltimore for years and experienced 1st hand hostility from SOME AAs. Some of the fear factor comes from bad experiences though the media take that to a whole new level. My own uncle, a mini mart owner in Dallas was shot and killed in his own store by AAs for few $. Most Ethiopians in the US are scared of AAs hence they keep themselves to themselves. It is not often a case of looking down on AAs.

Similar to what we've been told about many black Africans for centuries. Some have that same inferior/superior complex that I see with minorities and A.A. I knew an Ethiopian when I was coming up. That is why the official African Diaspora remittance is around 20 billion $ a year, unofficial figure according to world bank could be almost double this amount. Africans abroad send money and support their families, relatives, friends, own homes and businesses in Africa. We know all the problems there and most do their best to tackle them.

If Africans forget the poverty and other bad practices, they wouldn't be helping be it financially or any other way. Also my initial comment to craftnation was about economic issue hence it is relevant. People on welfare don't send billions back to Africa. Some AAs tarnish your reputation by committing despicable crimes, hence high volumes of AAs in jail. The media doesn't help either ...

I said Majority of Africans don't look down on AAs, this doesn't mean there aren't some that actually do look down on AAs and vice versa. So I just don't get the issue here. Some AAs look down on their fellow AAs, Africans do the same etc the list goes on .... I don't need any examples for that.

Ethiopia has been influenced through the Arabian peninsula across the gulf of aden from the middle east over hundred of years, and science proves this. Otherwise we wouldn't just so happen to speak a semitic language, or have Hinduism and Islam prominent religions in Ethiopia. Our genetics have been influenced too.

Somalis and Ethiopians do have an Arab mix background, but it's no more different than blacks here that are not 100% black and the European influence on us, but we have as much influence on them if not more. Ethiopians, Somolis come in different colors, hair texture, size etc. like the blacks here in the States. And let's not forget that the Arabs were the first to enslave many which played a factor in the equation. India influence? No.

Black Americans though, yeah they look different, but they still are black...The only thing that changed were their appearance, while the Arabs influenced the East African culture, language AND looks...

Us being black is the same difference as Ethiopians being black. Common bond again, mixed over the centuries. Some more extreme than others. Arab influence goes both ways. Ethiopian influence was in Egypt before the Arabs even entered Africa. Indians, they're new there compared to the Arab and Jewish history that goes back centuries.

@luxio43 I also wanted to add this. African American, while black, have as much western influence as Ethiopians do Arab. BUT, both cultures have a lot of their black history intact. Especially the Ethiopians. There is a lot of misconceptions about African history due to the Arab aka Caucasians living in northern and east Africa. People still think that the Arabs defined Egypt. That was after Egypt declined and the looks of the people changed over the centuries. Before that, people were black.

Blacks rarely mixed with whites, the only time they would is when the slave masters would rape the women. Other than that, it wasn't often. Blacks and whites didn't intermarry. And this happened in the past, about 250-200 years ago. Influence from the Arabian Peninsula happened since the beginning of civilization, back when Ethiopia was known as Abyssinia. Hundreds of years ago.
