Hey ya'll :) This is Jason Mabie from the 2003 Men's Octet (Shout), (Nirvana medley), (3rd solo in My Girl), etc. I just moved to L.A. and I'm working on building a presence in the scene here. It would REALLY help if you became a fan on my music website. Debut album to be released soon! Thanks for adding me as a fan and helping me in negotiating shows with venue managers :)
REVERBNATION daht com, search Jason Mabie, and become a fan. Thank you so much!
@RichyUK86 he did this arrangement, and several others in this concert. Rick Wood (who sang Not Pretty Enough) did the original arrangement for I Like Big Butts.
people were keep laughing at the part that didn't even supposed to be funny... part like 3:11 was supposed to be funny.1:23 was supposed to be funny. 2:11 was supposed to be funny. I just don't get it what's so funny about time signature change or tenor sound... well can't blame them at all. at least they liked it... people can't get a good response like this with just a good music, isn't it...
@monkfan72 Thanks! Now I won't seem like such an old idiot! The only reason I know any music my kids like at all is there seems to be almost no Generation Gap - like there's "supposed" to be! Kids are still liking bands like Led Zeppelin. I said to my kid, "Dude, you know they're all in diapers by now ! How cool can they be?" (All I got was the TER -- "Teenage Eye Roll")
Anyway I can get the arrangement for this? I teach music at an urban public high school and my guys love this. email me at rhaus@sandi.net - any other good ideas that students would like rather than another boring TTBB arrangement of "The Lion Sleeps Tonight?" Thanks!
I found out that the soloist, Jason Mabie, is going to be doing a show (vocals/ guitar) in San Fransisco on September 4th. I'm not sure of all the details, but I'm sure if you're in SF or will be there on Sept. 4, and you contact him on facebook (maybe YouTube -gobears236) he'll let you know.

I'm sorry but I thought it was bad form. The guy proclaims to be a fan of Nirvana? What the hell was he thinking? And the audience and their annoying laughs...I wonder where they preformed this. I was shocked and dismayed, shaking my head the whole time. Whatever man, go back to your country club, jack ass friends.
@desilang I disagree with everything you said, but thought you might like to know, that since they're from Berkeley, so they're much more likely to go back to their hippie communes than their country clubs.
I'm looking for fun youtubes for high school teaching resources, and the UC Men's OCtet never fails!!! This is the best find so far. I am literally laughing my head off right now.
you guys added your own twist to all of theese songs that you did, i was in awe(because it was so good) and laughed through the rest because it was so funny...i hope you guys release more, maybe try for a bigger audience
Actually, and this is an absolutely true story, I went home to Encino last year during winter break, and as I was waiting in line at the pharmacy at the Rite Aid on Ventura Blvd near White Oak, I noticed that the guy waiting right behind me was Dave Grohl!!!! I actually did introduce myself and said that I had co-arranged a comedic a cappella Nirvana medley on which at soloed at UC Berkeley, and he said that that was really cool. I doubt he's seen it, but that DID happen. Swear on my life :)
Possibly my favourite moment: the switch in the lead's facial expressions at 0:45 as the music suddenly picks up. Never fails to make me laugh, and I love this whole rendition!
This is sheer genius. The recordings of this performance show how talented this group was. I know the octet continues on, but this particular combination was fantastic.
Before deciding to go ahead with arranging this song, I read Kurt Cobain's biography "Heavier than Heaven", and there are many, MANY, allusions to Kurt loving parodies. He hated musicians who took their music too seriously. He viewed them as pathetic snobs. Remember that this is the same Kurt Cobain who gave "Weird Al" Yankovic the ok to put out a parody of Smells Like Teen Spirit. I love Nirvana. They really are my favorite band. This was a tribute to them, and Jurt, wherever he is, knows it.
@tryanjohnson I guess I don't particularly care if he would approve of this song either. We did, the audience did, and that's all that matters, and that's why we arranged and performed it. And yes, I agree BERKELEY ROCKS!! :)
And I read that Kurt Cobain and the entire band sat down to watch the debut of the Smells Like Nirvana, and laughed their asses off at it. Kurt was a badass and wasn't so insecure about himself that he thought his work was some sort of pristine example of the human race that should not be deflowered. He was too good for that.

@MasterofEtherium The harmonica thing is called a pitch pipe. A cappella groups use them to provide a pitch reference.
