For those asking where this is, it's the spillway of Llyn Brianne Reservoir, the tallest dam in the UK and the biggest clay-core dam in the world. It's in mid-wales 52°07.313'N, 3°45.952'W. It made the news last year when youtube footage of people kayacking down the spillway was published. Welsh Water (who run the dam) have banned all activities on the spillway - so at the very least this is trespass (not a criminal offence in UK law) - there may be other bylaws that make this illegal.

I live quite close to this - most of the time its dry but in Wales, it rains a lot (as anyone who lives here can testify!) so can often be seen like this in winter time. As has been mentioned earlier, sliding and kayaking down this spillway made the news last year with Welsh Water (or whoever run the dam now) threatening to take legal action agains people who do it.

If you get the conditions right the spillway is not to deep and there is a run up on top. But falling off would leave you looking like quasimodo.

That is fantastic... but not as good as the video on BBC News today. The safety police are out in force showing their lack of awareness of kayakers abilities - obviously only experienced kayakers should go for one this big.

In the BBC video, you can actually see the kayakers coming down and really get a sense of the speed and height they get if they take off from the eddy. I never thought I would see someone get "big air" in a kayak!

no but according to tales the first person who went down was a drunk irish man who went down on a spade... and fell of and got first degree burns on his ass. Best to do it on a boat. It is much bigger than you would think the walls on each side are at least 10 feet
