@Golokamusic The truth of the matter is that even if the actors portraying German soldiers had fired their weapons during a staged attack for the film it would not have affected the outcome of the actual, real war. In the real war they did indeed fire their weapons and they still lost, deal with it.
The German stormtroopers where armed with Bergmann mp (with drum magazines ) for cleaning out fast , and stormtroopers dont walk , they run , this movie is so historical wrong
@GreaterGermanReich i know what you mean and I'm American! yeah there's a ww1 movie focusing on the Germans called "all's quiet on the western front. if that suits your tastes.
You guys, don't let Amirturist get to you. He was stating an opinion and he comes from a very small country no offense. And I do believe they are at a worst economic state as we are, so give them a break. They did nothing to us. We leave them alone, they leave us alone.
@GreaterGermanReich It's just how the American movie industry portray Americans and Germans. THey do that so that they get more audience and more audience means more money for the movie industry. I apologize if you are offended by our movies. I know Germany fought as hard as any other country has who were involved in WW1 and WW2. The only German I dislike is Hitler and he is not even German is he or at least he wasn't born in a German family. The Germans in WW1 and WW2 were brave as Americans.
I have been reading Johnson and Pratt's book "The Lost Battalion" (1938), based on interviews with the survivors from both sides, which states that the Friendly Fire incident occurred when the artillery observer with Whittlesey's battalion made an error in position when asking for artillery, which was made worse when the coordinates were confirmed by an unknown captain from a DIFFERENT regiment that had been trying to break through to Charleveaux Mill, but had never even been close to it.
@MrMegaBenjy So the guy hates American movies, big deal. It's the same thing with some Americans I know who hates European movies. Im sure you have a foreign movie that you hate.
@CyanoticFuture Yeah, right, as if there where so many germans (or even people) today...and BTW, you all have german blood in you. Your very very soon antecedents came from germany to britain and then to the USA.

@SuperLostDreamer american artillery mistakingly fired upon their own men because they where given cord nets that where believed to be that of the german lines.
Don't forget Cher Ami, the carrier pigeon that delivered the message despite having a leng blown off and a bullent in its breast. Cher Ami lived a few days but died as a result of its injuries. It recieved the French "Croix de Guerre" medal with Oak Leaf Cluster for his heroic service. Its body was mounted by a taxidermist and donated to the Smithsonian Institution where it is on display to this day.
these men did not chose to fight in the war, they were criminals and were given a choice, stay in jail and die by laws hands or fight in the war and have a 50/50 chance of surviving AND being a hero. This is a great movie, just watched about 20 min of it in honors history and just had to watch the rest.
@soonerfan028 i'm saying the humans are the ones who caused and are fighting the war. the birds just got in the middle of it, it's not there fight, therefore, it's not okay to shoot the bird.
@BL0OD4BL0OD WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU PEOPLE TALKING ABOUT?? Its wrong to shoot and kill anything but this was a great war, It was every man for himself. You would thank god for still been alive every minute. Look at war?? Mass murder,rape,extermination,destruction.disease. BUT WAR IS LIFE!!
@BL0OD4BL0OD Thanking god that your still alive and healthy so you may get the chance to see your loved ones again. Most were young boys who joined the Armies alot were 15+ years boys who saw war as a game and a chance to see the world. They didnt know what they were getting themselfs into it was there duty to fight for there Country or Empire. They had balls of steel some as young as even 14 lied about there age and went to war storming out the Trenches into machine gun fire.
@martynrobin121 Yes and i get what happens in war, i'm not dissagreeing whith that. Even those who come home are still traumatized for the rest of there lives. I'm saying that things like this, war, death ect. is the proof that there is no "god".
@BL0OD4BL0OD God exists in the Mind, There is no superbeing with magical powers that watches over us and created us. Ands wars will always happen the thing with Human nature is that we have evil tempers and emotions. You have to fight for what you think is right and you have to stand up.
@BL0OD4BL0OD You dont realise in WW1 it was a hudge honour fighting for your King and Country and Empire. The Great war was to be the war that would end all wars. Men and Boys had to sign up and fight for there country as it was there duty to there Country and Empire. They were told the war would be over by Christmas. It is every mans and womans and childs job to protect there country by fighting on the frontlines or at home helping supply the frontlines.
@BL0OD4BL0OD Most soldiers didnt want a war and they didnt want to go kill other people but it was there duty to fight, People back in them days had honour and pride and they would look a coward if they didnt fight for there Families and Country. Look at the Truce at Christmas when British,French and German soldiers came out of the trenches got drunk played football gave each other presents and gifts helped burry there dead they didnt want to kill each other.
@baberaider18 They got owned because they got caught in the open and in a crossfire. Had they not retreated when they did, they would have all been killed, particularly after the Americans saw them killing wounded soldiers.
@samson4474 Yeah, I've noticed that too. It sounds like a few random sentences were recorded by the same guy to be played on a loop during every frickin' Battlescene. Thats about the only thing that bothers me about this film.
BTW, I am German, and my voice sounds neither high pitched nor nasal. :D
WHY do the Americans continually do this to themselves? Do you know that in the UK, everytime there's a war on, we Brits place bets on what week the 1st friendly fire incident occurs?
If you're referring to the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq then the reason you hear so much about friendly fire incidents from Americans is because Americans provide the vast majority of fire power from the air and friendly fire incidents are much more likely to happen during an air bombing of some sort. The British press and some of the populace seem to think that friendly fire is a uniquely American phenomena which is far from the truth.
@Orlan54 We're probably being lied to by our own media. I've watched some of the footage of the Brits in action during these wars, and it does look edited, so what else are they making out? I don't trust them. I get your point.
Everyone has committed friendly fire during WWI, let alone any war, at some time, British, French, Americans, you name it.
We're just more willing to admit that we fucked up badly. Although, for all technically purposes, no one wants to admit that they just killed their own brothers in arms, hence why you don't hear of it when it does happen; even though blue on blue engagements is very rare nowadays.
Damn, these guy's did a great job on the close combat footage. 5:50-6:31 are the best scenes. It gets real funny at 5:53 if you keep clicking on it, the punch sounds like rifle-fire...
AW POOR BIRDIE! Jesus, well at least it got through. And that major sure keeps his cool, just watching men getting blown apart and shot. I wonder what goes through his mind.
well, apart from the fact that the firing coordinates seem to have been kinda guessed at, i.e we think they are in this area near the mill, aim for just past the mill, it wasn't really anyone's fault, they had no communication, just had to hope they hit the germans and not their own troops, but i think the artillery should be more inclined to think, "better to miss and be far away, then to be too close and hit our own guys." even missed shots can damage enemy morale, but hitting you own wont!
The fact is that this kind of friendly fire happened whether because the artillerists adjusted their guns' sightings too short or because the friendly troops were too close to the shelled zone, like this is the case in this movie. It's not a matter of gun's accuracy, but of how you aim it.
if i were that i will retreat 500 meters for a while and go back at the line when the firing is finished, why didn't they think about that, then they could hold the Germans after that!
There was no direct communication or line of site from the artillery positions to the infantry line. They did not intend to shoot their own people but it happened anyway.
@1992Sonikku My understanding is that they sent a pigeon with the wrong coordinates, then they had to send another pigeon (the famous "cher ami") to tell them to stop firing. The movie leaves out the mistake about the coordinates.
The pigeon was shot up, and had one leg and one eye by the time it got back, but they leave that out too. Medics saved the pigeon, and it was actually given a medal.

@Zeanu
"I wonder what goes through his mind."
Probably stuff that lead him to suicide during the 20's.
Well, at least, when the major died, the investigators concluded it was a suicide.

runn1ngr4mb01 1 year ago
well, apart from the fact that the firing coordinates seem to have been kinda guessed at, i.e we think they are in this area near the mill, aim for just past the mill, it wasn't really anyone's fault, they had no communication, just had to hope they hit the germans and not their own troops, but i think the artillery should be more inclined to think, "better to miss and be far away, then to be too close and hit our own guys." even missed shots can damage enemy morale, but hitting you own wont!

the faul was not from artillery
Was part from the gunners
And from the guns
The guns on that time were not very acuarate
Antunez99 2 years ago
@Antunez99
Guns could be very accurate, even in that time.
The fact is that this kind of friendly fire happened whether because the artillerists adjusted their guns' sightings too short or because the friendly troops were too close to the shelled zone, like this is the case in this movie. It's not a matter of gun's accuracy, but of how you aim it.
Regards.

@Briselance Many say that the US artillery arm of the army was poor during the WW 1, not the artillery guns fire control was the likey short coming .

that's why we, in the 1st battalion, hate the field artillery (5th battalion) so much back in '77.

if i were that i will retreat 500 meters for a while and go back at the line when the firing is finished, why didn't they think about that, then they could hold the Germans after that!
luftwaffe789456123 2 years ago

1992Sonikku 2 years ago
whoops wat i was tryin to say is dat why the army shoot bomb at them? arent they in da same side?
1992Sonikku 2 years ago
There was no direct communication or line of site from the artillery positions to the infantry line. They did not intend to shoot their own people but it happened anyway.
Godspeed909 2 years ago
@1992Sonikku My understanding is that they sent a pigeon with the wrong coordinates, then they had to send another pigeon (the famous "cher ami") to tell them to stop firing. The movie leaves out the mistake about the coordinates.
The pigeon was shot up, and had one leg and one eye by the time it got back, but they leave that out too. Medics saved the pigeon, and it was actually given a medal.

they didn't really know the exact location of the battalion, that's why.

They got the firing coordinates wrong and ended up dropping
