@ToonandBBfan At 0:31 the One ahead is a Slugger, Not a light tank at all, It was a heavy anti-tank gun mounted on a open top. But the one behind it was... the one and only M1 staurt, A tiny little tin can xD Thats why it looks so small cause it is :P
the germans should have built more of these badasses and spend more time refining them rather than producing insufficient high-quality tigers and king tigers.
There is some great footage of a Panther being destroyed and the crew getting smoked by a Pershing tamk with the magnificent Koln Cathedral in the background elsewhere on Utube. Awesome
Yeah Napoleon ... Even he didn't like the french people ...... I figured that would be a French Hero ... A 4ft tall little man with an attitude problem ... HAHAHAHAHA
@MeowMixYoMama the King Tiger was Sloooooooooooooooooooooooow it weighed 69tons (this weighed 40tons) the King Tiger hade a 88mm cannon the panther hade a 75mm the king tigers armour was considered IMPOSSIBLE TO DESTROY (it was slopped armour and it was over 170-250mm thick!) panther hade 70mm thick slopped armour and... its smaller i guess
The French used Panthers, for a few years, because there were a few of them still running, already in France, and for political reasons, as France did not want to re-equip with American weapons. (Although, they later did.)
Tanks were not a big priority for the French military, at that point in time. They were far more concerned with regaining control of their colonies.
@ShorelineThomas No its an Ausf.A mid production , this one I believe served with either the Panzer Lehr or the 12th SS as they had more of these than the later Ausf.G . A number which were abondoned were rquistioned into the french army until they had their own tanks .
This multi plated amored golioth was a good tank during the second world war. But cost alot to manufacture and sucked fuel like there's no tomarrow!lol
I like the panther alot. It was one of the last tank designe for the Nazis during the second world war. But i myself like the Aufs Panzer IV. It has all you would realy need in combat. Side skirts for amor protection on the tredds and reenforced steel plateing on the turrent. Not to mention a high veliocty 75mm gun.lol
The problem with almost all of our choices is that Germany's lack of air defenses in the late war period was one of its weakest points. It doesn't matter if a Sherman can't knock you out; a Typhoon can easily do the job without fear of retribution!
Would any tanks be less vulnerable to to air-ground attacks? Maybe lower profile tank destroyers like the Hetzer?
@WTCTribute Unfortunately I dont think most germans would want them back. As a country, they seem more interested in forgetting that war ever happened. Cant say as I blame them, either. After the total physical and financial ruin it caused, they spent the following 45 years split in half between Allied Europe and Communist Russia. As a country, Germany STILL hasnt fully recovered.
@Mandrak789 im real Berliner and thats not the truth, the most of our tanks are in french and the eastern europe we want it back, but its no way, in germany is not one tiger other people bring it to us for showing lol
@weedlawdaG In Munster Tank museum is a King-Tiger with a Henschel Turret, and a Sturm-Tiger, so there are Tiger tanks in Germany, go see them. You can see it on youtube, type Munster Tank Museum, lots of good stuff.
@weedlawdaG There is a Tiger 1 tank in Germany being re-built, it's on YouTube, please type "TIGER PANZER MOTORSTART" and also "TIGER PANZER MOTORSTART 2", they have started the Maybach motor to working order, but have not yet put on the tracks or wheels. Soon there will be a fully working Tiger 1 tank in Germany.
@haiherosner If you put together a team of Engineers and welders , fabricators you could build one like it maybe not the sam engine / transmission but im sure Germans could build some amazing stuff if they liked.
@icaruss88 The best copy cats in the world(China) who can copy anything actually make exact riplicas of Tanks, planes, vec, boats. out of i believe fiberglass. I would like to say well done to whom so ever restored that tank, must have cost a literal fortune and ten(?)years of heavy duty restoration to get it to that state.
Anyone know where they run these rare machines in the UK? does Bovington tank museum have any heavy / medium tanks in running order? and better still when can i go see one?
Dont think bovington has one. Im pretty sure there are only a total 2 Panthers intact. A while back I read about a fellow from USA that was planning to recover a pretty well preserved Panther from the bottom of some river in eastern europe making it the 3rd Panther still intact. Dont know if he found it or was able to recover it...
The Panther in Bovington is actually a vehicle built from parts revovered from the factory in 1945. It was constructed by the British Army, (REME), for evaluation purposes. They have a Jagdpanther built the same way. Neither are 'runners' i believe.
The guy in America is Jacques Littlefield. He has the largest private tank collection in the world. Unfortunately he died earlier this year. The Panther was complete from the turret ring down. the top half had to be re-constructed. It was probably destroyed by air attack.
servingsoldier70-that littlefield's panther came from poland, sunk in river and damaged by its crew (grenades) too.turret is repro as they couldn't restore too damaged original turret
Well aside from the fact it is a sexy tank once the bugs were fixed it was more than a match for any allied tank Both Russian and American. Just look at a Panther G late version and you will see near perfection. It was the best medium tank the Germans fielded. Truely a work of art. But hey, that's just me.
It's always good to see this video again! I'm planning to go to Saumur museum in France next year - I was told the tanks will be moving on 3 & 30 May and again on 11 & 12 July!
