I'm sorry, kudos for making this n'all, but am i the only one who thinks it's a little bit crap to have what looks like a wooden shanty house sitting in the middle of your room?
not sure you'd be getting much action if the ladies rocked up and saw that thing in the living room!
@Discofreestyle The wooden enclosure is optional but improves the contrast of the projection at the cost of making the projector look big & ugly. I prefer functionality so it doesn't bother me.
There are other designs for DIY projectors, some of them look great, but for anyone who doesn't want to mess around with lenses & electrics, this is the easiest way to do it.
@freakzilla3333 yeh fair enough i suppose, it's a good effort like i said, i was going to build my own, but with the LED technology coming out of China now i didn't really see the point. 20,000hrs lamp life is enough in-between replacement pj's / bulbs imo.
15" LCD, made by Iiyama. The biggest problem with building a DIY Projector is finding an LCD that has suitable ffc cable layout, & that is easy to disassemble. Tom's Hardware Guide recommended Iiyama branded LCD's for this, so I'd get an Iiyama LCD.
THG Tutorial (I used this for my projector, after that I designed & built the plywood fixed enclosure): tomshardware (dot) com/reviews/supersize-tv,918-5.html
LOL youve got to be kidding! That was rather impressive! Ive read on site how DIY projectors are made with simple items just never seen one up and running with video demonstration. What bulb light source was you using for the LCD?
now taking an lcd from a display, the result is a very thin display, if you were to hold it up to a light looking at the reverse side while its hooked via vga displaying an image or whatever, youd be seeing the mirrored image, correct?
OHP was £90 inc p&p from ebay (apparently worth £300 so good deal). 15" LCD was £60 from ebay. Speakers were about £60. Wood, & fans were about £25 total. Custom PC was £300, built it myself to save a lot of money.
Total: £535.
Currently I'm building new parts for it to hold a new 10.6" HD LCD by Samsung.
The lens is a hd lens that came with the ohp, the image (masked to 16:9) is approx 140", could be bigger in a bigger room (400" max I reckon). Currently I'm building new parts for it to use a Samsung 10.6" HD LCD & MST Controller.
Pretty cool, But you might want to give Media player classic a shot with K-lite codec pack, You can play any movie format including quicktime HD trailers from yahoo & .vob dvd rips Then save a playlist file that you double click or have a scheduler run showings at a pre determined time & have it set to open in fullscreen after running the playlist file. Just some ideas from my experience, Learning is what it's all about! See my video "My real theater" On my channel.
I bought power dvd specially for the projector, it can play playlists & vobs, but it's interesting that mpc can play quicktime hd trailers, as they don't play in power dvd, currently I have to make wmv's of them in sony vegas to play them with my cinema ads in power dvd. Would the codec pack work with power dvd too? If so that would be great.
Not sure if it will with your version but it didn't work with mine "Powerdvd HD" some of my hd movies are .ts streams & other obscure formats like mkv which the new mpc will play most anything.
Sweet! Now you can record your own bootleg movies!

What did you use to shrink the video once you masked off the lcd overhang???
schlock1701 2 years ago
PowerDVD lets you resize the player window to fit the masked-off area.
In this video I resize it at 1:10.

how come ytou change the size of the max screen size in each post?
WORMGERM 3 years ago
I'm just guessing the max size because I don't have a big enough room to test the max size.
freakzilla3333 3 years ago
How big is the projection? That's HUGE!
PizzaProRasco1 3 years ago
It's about 130", I reckon the projector could do up to 320" max, but I don't have a bigger room to try it in.
