  • What for?

  • u see

  • If I'm not mistaken the uchidachi is Matsui-sensei, wonder who the shi-jo is...

  • Nah yer not mistaken. Thats him allright! The full names of the performers are in the description of the video.

  • why does shidachi step forward like that :s ?

  • You mean when he steps forward and then slams the jo on uchidachis wrist? That particular way of doing monomi is a trademark of the Fukuoka Jo. In Tokyo-based Jo-dojos, for instance, the monomi is mostly tightly synched with Uhidachis sword. I dont know the exact reasoning behind the formers monomi-strike.

  • Hey Fred dude. Nishioka Sensei explains both styles in the soon to be released Omote movie ;-) Stay tuned...

  • To illustrate the difference you can check the same strike (minus the step forward) in the "Kiri kake" clip I have uploaded. That is the tokyo variant of essentially the same technique as this above.

  • ah i see, I have been taught the tokyo variant :)

  • Oh yes! Definetly Otofuji's stamp on the Uchidachis swordwork :-) Nice clip!
