@aizen7777777777: Endless cycle? The first rule of Tautology Club is the first rule of Tautology Club. In other news: You are fucking dumb, judging from your uploads and the bullshit you are posting.
Wow, that's quite a bit slower than the GTX 260M on my laptop (a desktop 9800GT). I wonder why AMD GPUs do so much worse on F@H. I normally get a work unit done in three hours. The 4870 seems to take some seven hours.
hey can you tell me how i can get a viewer that looks like that? im running FAH basic CPU and FAH for my GPU GTS250, i want to have a viewer that looks like that, all i get is a black screen with a small molecule that just spins...
@prolecat did you get it sorted out because im new to folding and have the same problem...i dont even think my gpu is folding at all.. load seems to be at 0% unless i open the display
just curious, but my computer. well it used to be my before it to my sister. only had a P4 processor and shitty Graphics card. anyway to the point, i now own a PlayStation 3. and i was wondering since you use a computer. does that mean i would not be able to join you're team with my PS3? just curious.
The folding@home website is not very user-friendly. It's amazing how such intelligent people can have such poor communication skills. I just want to download the GPU client for a Radeon 5750 and get going. Unfortunately, the site is a rat's nest of misinformation and dead ends.
It Does computer modeling of protein creation in the human body. the results are used for cancer research, among other things. it runs in the backround using excess cycles.
iam trying to use this program, but the protein doesn't seem to be growing like your "live". mine just sits there spinning, it's not growing while iam watching it... do you know what i could do?
The PS3's cell processor, when it comes to pure computational power, is at a super-computer level. Far beyond any desktop PC can do. That is what makes it do good for F@H. Yes, modern PCs can process graphics better, but the Cell can still perform basic CPU arithmetic far better.
How come your view looks so nice? I'm folding with a 4850 and the colours and stuff is very dull, just wondering if you've done anything to make it look better?
ATI Radeons pretty much suck when it comes to folding@home. i know they can get ok performance on games but nvidia can do so much more. My gtx260 gpu falls into the same price range as the 4870 and i get 4300+ iter/sec and 8700ppd. ATI has some things to work on seeing that the 4870 has 4 times more stream processors and way faster memory than my gtx260.
ps3 cant run games like pc does: /your computer is obviously crappy if you really think your console is better than a pc.ps3 has a very old graphics chip too.
stop being a dumb ass the best looking game on pc is crysis and thats coming on consoles. Pc sucks my dick. And you think my specs suck take a look at it:
Intel core i7 975 extreme ( overclocked water cooled)
crysis is being downgraded stupid : /damn you have no idea of the bullshit you just told me lol.did you even type in ps3 vs pc?i have 8 gigs of ram btw
to be sure you do realise that ps3 /360 version of crysis will be downgraded right?did you also know that pc version of games always look better?or are you one of those idiots that thinks blu ray=pwn?
nice specs but their is a flaw bout the crysis thing. crytek announced that they are not going to push the graphics hard like they would on a pc but they will utilize what the ps3 has to the limits. if you dont believe me just google it
@Kashground consoles are, and will always be weaker than their PC counterpart :) however they are really cheap noways.. perhaps due to new gen coming soon dunno
The ps3 wasn't even much (if at all) better than high end PCs when it came out, let alone now. If you say it's better than PCs now, you might as well say it's better 5 years from now too. You can quadfire 4 5870's, pair them with an I7 975 extreme, as much triple channel DDR3 ram as you want, run a couple SSD in a raid, liquid cool it all, and still call it a PC. You think a ps3 can even come close to that performance?
well you're right but the ps3 certainly is better then a computer with a core 2 duo processor with 2 gb ram and an hd4850 gpu cause of its cell brodband engine
Interestingly enough, the PS3 was rated as the second best in terms of TFlops/$1million, cranking out 375 TFlops per million. The Nvidia Tesla which holds first place on the list gets 439.1 TFlops per million dollars. Compare both of these to the blueGene/L supercomputer at 2.8, and it really shows the power of PS3s and GPUs as compared to regular CPUs. Mind you, I'm sure there are many costs associated with a supercomputer like that vs. 8 PS3's hooked up, such as power consumption ;)
@agentdarkboote Price performance it just about certainly is better because consoles are designed to crucnch out awesome looking graphics and nothing else, so it is pretty much a $300 video card. A PC though you have the raw processing power aswell to do useful stuff too. I wouldn't mind having a PS3 both for games and to leave on getting my folding points tbh. Am considering getting maybe an 8800gt or 2 and sticking it on my old mobo as a tiny folding farm, should crank out a few points :)
mines look so cheap. is that another folding@home program? i downloaded mines off the folding website and it doesn't go bouncy or show that bottom bar on left.
its a program to simulate different ways a protein can fold, it is useful determining how a protein can fold and misfold and cause diseases. The Folding@home project is run by Standford university, basically instead of using supercomputers to fold proteins for several years, they distribute their program among anyone with a good computer (most modern computers are pretty powerful). There is a PS3 version as well. it takes about 8 hour to do one folding job!then the data is sent back to Stanford.
Where did you get the client? i have been looking but all i found was the crappy client from Folding@home's website. It doesn't even show any progress on the display...
Thanks for the reply, hmm when I downloaded their cpu client it just showed me a basic and random animation without any information like you have on the bottom of the screen. When I download the GPU client, it says my GPU isnt supported, (I have a all in wonder HD 3650). some forums say something about adding a force flag which I have no idea how to do. I guess I will wait until I get a 4890 or learn how to program :)
hi i dont understand how you get it so nice and i only see much less ditaild picture or vid. and i dont see how long i have comed only if i hold the mouse over the icond and sory my english is so bad
The iterations/second varies with each protein. Some proteins get higher iter/sec and some get lower.
Also, he has his display window open, which means that the iterations/sec displayed is much, much lower than it is actually calculating when the display is turned off.
The GPU slows down in calculation speeds significantly when the display is shown, so it's important not to measure speed by iter/sec.
Using a program like FahMon to monitor PPD is the best way to get calculating power.
