  • song?

  • is this screen saver?

  • If I would try to simulate these protein chains sequences, my PC would literally explode! :|

  • What's the name of the song?

  • im using a geforce 4 mx 440 and it is still going after 1 and a half years DX

  • Delusional Fools!

Have you folded enough proteins yet? LOL :D

Blind sheep following other blind sheep in an endless cycle.

  • @aizen7777777777: Endless cycle? The first rule of Tautology Club is the first rule of Tautology Club. In other news: You are fucking dumb, judging from your uploads and the bullshit you are posting.

  • @Staudinka

My first rule of wisdom is: "Do not answer a fool according to his folly, or you will be like him yourself." Proverbs 26:4

So yeah, get a life kid.

  • @aizen7777777777 Seems like you just broke your first rule.

  • Wow, that's quite a bit slower than the GTX 260M on my laptop (a desktop 9800GT). I wonder why AMD GPUs do so much worse on F@H. I normally get a work unit done in three hours. The 4870 seems to take some seven hours.

  • I had a ps3 awhile back, I still dont fully understand what this folding at home thing is.

  • can someone give me a link to this program please?

  • ppd pls???...

  • hey can you tell me how i can get a viewer that looks like that? im running FAH basic CPU and FAH for my GPU GTS250, i want to have a viewer that looks like that, all i get is a black screen with a small molecule that just spins...

  • @prolecat did you get it sorted out because im new to folding and have the same problem...i dont even think my gpu is folding at all.. load seems to be at 0% unless i open the display

  • wtf is folding@home? can someone explain? and why is it becoming a fad with video cards?

  • shitting at home they should call it ! like wasting your bandwidth?

  • @joecobra1234

How is that wasting your bandwidth? It uses your cpu / gpu.

Avoid commenting if your an idiot. :)

  • I want to build a computer that is great at folding or just a bomb ass folding farm. :D

  • I have an i7 Processor and an ATI Radeon HD 5670. It's working great!

  • Hey can you please tell me what music this is? I really wanna know. Thanks.

  • how do you get it to move

  • I wish I had a faster PC I would fold the living shit out of that protines.

  • Hi ca n you help i have radeon 4890 but f@h gpu client uses only 20% of gpu where is the problem?

  • @maphantom hi, what OS are u using?

  • @cyther39 got it solved .. a LOT of things werent like they should be.

How much PPD should get from this card?

  • @maphantom actually i have the same problem right now. when i switched to Win7 from Win xp, my GPU load went down to 30-50%. how did u fixed it?

  • @cyther39 pres win (that button with windows icon on it) and pause buton

    Then press Advanced System settings

than in the bottom of tab that appears there will be button "enviroment Variables"

then search f@h forum for best settings for your card

    Hope it helps!

  • @maphantom yes, i already did that, what is the value of ur flush_interval?

    btw: what is ur OS?

  • @cyther39 Win 7 and Flush intrvl is 242

  • @maphantom u should get 3200+ it depends on work units.

  • just curious, but my computer. well it used to be my before it to my sister. only had a P4 processor and shitty Graphics card. anyway to the point, i now own a PlayStation 3. and i was wondering since you use a computer. does that mean i would not be able to join you're team with my PS3? just curious.

  • @fr34kaccident yes you can join! :) weather your using a PC or a PS3, it does't matter.

  • whats the point of folding?

  • The folding@home website is not very user-friendly. It's amazing how such intelligent people can have such poor communication skills. I just want to download the GPU client for a Radeon 5750 and get going. Unfortunately, the site is a rat's nest of misinformation and dead ends.

  • Nice keep up good work.

It runs 420 iter / sec on my:

    HD 4670 + 1 core of C2D e7400

    GPU is 75c

  • Very cool, unfortunately my laptop doesn't cut it that quickly, but I'm still helping out all the same! ;)

  • Ok, i downloaded the GPU client, the CUDA drivers (im with nvidia 8800) but still it doesn't go as smooth as this. Why?

  • I'm not sure but, I get ~3000 iter/sec on my card, why is yours still so low?

  • i have the 4670 radeon ati graphics card and it came with this program, what does it doexactly?

  • It Does computer modeling of protein creation in the human body. the results are used for cancer research, among other things. it runs in the backround using excess cycles.

  • ok thx, my cousin told me something similar, but he i didnt understand exactly what he was talking about.

  • calculates human proteins for study and research of diseases like alzhimers

  • wonder how Dual 5970's does?

  • not well as this program is not opptimised for ATi cards let alone the WHOLE 5k series as it is still somewhat new

  • Seems the 4870 is expensive to run, jumps 130W on load. (most cards are expensive)

    tomshardware com reviews radeon-hd-4870,1964-15.html

I'm just thinking, while we're curing cancer we also increase global warming.

Rather then using power-efficient cards and solving both problems. Plus keeping a pile of money.

Unless when we know the power comes from a clean source, then Fold-on!

  • LOL....I get 8000 PPD with a 9800 GTX+....and the 4870 is a better card....hahahah

  • yes, it is because the code is not optimized for ATI cards,

wait until the GPU3 with opencl is released, it will take over nvidia cards on folding.;)

  • iam trying to use this program, but the protein doesn't seem to be growing like your "live". mine just sits there spinning, it's not growing while iam watching it... do you know what i could do?

  • maybe you have the cpu client, not the GPU client like the one on the video.

  • N00b Question: GPU-Folding dont use the CPU? If so then why not also run a CPU-Folding client at the same time?

  • I heard you could but its not stable (fuck your pc up?)

  • The PS3's cell processor, when it comes to pure computational power, is at a super-computer level. Far beyond any desktop PC can do. That is what makes it do good for F@H. Yes, modern PCs can process graphics better, but the Cell can still perform basic CPU arithmetic far better.

  • Just no.

  • Glad you had some intelligent feedback, with something to back up your claim. Refute fail.

  • That's all that was needed. I have other things to do too, you know.

  • Like giving ignorant , frivolous replies to other people's quantifiable statements? Right, gotcha. I'm done with you. Peace.

  • hum, seti@home gets my gtx 275 while folding gets to run on my superfast netbook

  • How come your view looks so nice? I'm folding with a 4850 and the colours and stuff is very dull, just wondering if you've done anything to make it look better?

  • Our team: 176683

JOIN together to build the proteins faster and faster :D

  • ATI Radeons pretty much suck when it comes to folding@home. i know they can get ok performance on games but nvidia can do so much more. My gtx260 gpu falls into the same price range as the 4870 and i get 4300+ iter/sec and 8700ppd. ATI has some things to work on seeing that the 4870 has 4 times more stream processors and way faster memory than my gtx260.

  • is it possible to even move the proteins or do i have to stare at it : /

  • you can move them dude :P

  • oh: /

  • that made no sense: / 5970 is what?a number?

  • ATi Radeon 4670 is joining the team :)

  • @McGravier tnx for joining.

  • not to be an ass but no ps3 isnt better than a computer with ati 4870 graphics card : /

  • yes it is go to folding at home on the ps3 one and you'll see much better results

  • ps3 is weaker than a computer : /

  • dry. you mean the other way around

  • ps3 cant run games like pc does: /your computer is obviously crappy if you really think your console is better than a pc.ps3 has a very old graphics chip too.

  • stop being a dumb ass the best looking game on pc is crysis and thats coming on consoles. Pc sucks my dick. And you think my specs suck take a look at it:

Intel core i7 975 extreme ( overclocked water cooled)

    grx 260

    4 gb ram

    windows vista home basic 64-bit

  • crysis is being downgraded stupid : /damn you have no idea of the bullshit you just told me lol.did you even type in ps3 vs pc?i have 8 gigs of ram btw

  • to be sure you do realise that ps3 /360 version of crysis will be downgraded right?did you also know that pc version of games always look better?or are you one of those idiots that thinks blu ray=pwn?

  • nice specs but their is a flaw bout the crysis thing. crytek announced that they are not going to push the graphics hard like they would on a pc but they will utilize what the ps3 has to the limits. if you dont believe me just google it

  • did you just say what i think you said? that was very noobish... im just sayin pc can look fucking ridonculous...

  • @Kashground consoles are, and will always be weaker than their PC counterpart :) however they are really cheap noways.. perhaps due to new gen coming soon dunno

  • @Kashground well... the PS3 IS a computer. Its weaker than THIS computer.

  • @Kashground Than a HIGH end computer.

  • Respond to this video... mine wont jiggle or show stats.

  • @Kashground I think the processor might run better for programs optimized for it, but the video card's obviously outdated.

  • @Kashground correction no ps3 is better than a computer with a hex core cpu and a asus ares card bwahaha

  • @bluesirrus That's not even good trolling, just get out.

  • @Kashground The difference is the PS3 has optimized code. Thats why it will pump out more FPS than some PCs, despite having weaker hardware.

  • @Kashground ALSO, the PS3 has much much better performance/wattage than any PC.

  • The ps3 wasn't even much (if at all) better than high end PCs when it came out, let alone now. If you say it's better than PCs now, you might as well say it's better 5 years from now too. You can quadfire 4 5870's, pair them with an I7 975 extreme, as much triple channel DDR3 ram as you want, run a couple SSD in a raid, liquid cool it all, and still call it a PC. You think a ps3 can even come close to that performance?

    Short answer...No.

  • well you're right but the ps3 certainly is better then a computer with a core 2 duo processor with 2 gb ram and an hd4850 gpu cause of its cell brodband engine

  • for the price of a PS3 though, you can't get the same folding performance from a PC.

From a high end PC though, that would beat the shit out of a PS3, but would also beat the shit out of your bank balance too :)

  • Interestingly enough, the PS3 was rated as the second best in terms of TFlops/$1million, cranking out 375 TFlops per million. The Nvidia Tesla which holds first place on the list gets 439.1 TFlops per million dollars. Compare both of these to the blueGene/L supercomputer at 2.8, and it really shows the power of PS3s and GPUs as compared to regular CPUs. Mind you, I'm sure there are many costs associated with a supercomputer like that vs. 8 PS3's hooked up, such as power consumption ;)

  • @agentdarkboote Price performance it just about certainly is better because consoles are designed to crucnch out awesome looking graphics and nothing else, so it is pretty much a $300 video card. A PC though you have the raw processing power aswell to do useful stuff too. I wouldn't mind having a PS3 both for games and to leave on getting my folding points tbh. Am considering getting maybe an 8800gt or 2 and sticking it on my old mobo as a tiny folding farm, should crank out a few points :)

  • i run rosetta at home they are doing same kind of things

  • MAN MINE JUST SPINS AROUND AND DOES NOTHING x(

  • its crashed then it happened to me alot lol

  • 173322 is my folding at home thing, anyone can join

  • im downloading this thing

  • i tried so hard to figure out how to use this folding@home thing and its so fucking confusing

  • why does it take fo friking long to like install?

  • fuck u fanboy

  • acualy my 8800 is faster then my friends ps3

  • Can you fold for me? ;-;..

  • Comment removed

  • is it trying every possible option to get that protein folded? or is at a complex algorithme that its solving?

  • actually, both.

  • mines look so cheap. is that another folding@home program? i downloaded mines off the folding website and it doesn't go bouncy or show that bottom bar on left.

  • Same here..

  • maybe you downloaded the cpu client.

  • I have a phenom x4 II 940 oc @ 3.4GHz 8GB ddr2 Ram and HD 4850 1GB ddr3. how long will it take for me to complete one folding? im a noob

  • about 2 to 4hrs it depends on the WUs (Work Unit), its just my estimation.

    give it a try.

and join in my team if you want. =)

  • sorry to sound like a noob but can someone tell me what is this folding thingy?

  • its a program to simulate different ways a protein can fold, it is useful determining how a protein can fold and misfold and cause diseases. The Folding@home project is run by Standford university, basically instead of using supercomputers to fold proteins for several years, they distribute their program among anyone with a good computer (most modern computers are pretty powerful). There is a PS3 version as well. it takes about 8 hour to do one folding job!then the data is sent back to Stanford.

  • Where did you get the client? i have been looking but all i found was the crappy client from Folding@home's website. It doesn't even show any progress on the display...

  • yes, it is F@H CPU client (uses single CPU core)

you need high performance client (it can be found on their website)

go directly to Download page scroll down...and you will see red star with Beta written in it

simply click to link High performance windows clients .. there you can choose, which one to select

  • Thanks for the reply, hmm when I downloaded their cpu client it just showed me a basic and random animation without any information like you have on the bottom of the screen. When I download the GPU client, it says my GPU isnt supported, (I have a all in wonder HD 3650). some forums say something about adding a force flag which I have no idea how to do. I guess I will wait until I get a 4890 or learn how to program :)

  • i have 500-800 iters/secont

    with 1 HD4870

  • 2300 iters when idle (sli 285) and 100 iters on a 8500gt (crapppy) but on the 8500gt it oesnt move like that :|

  • dude, minimise it, as the simulation uses up some of the GPU's power. if you do minimise it, it folds much faster.

  • how did u get it going that fast?

  • because i use my GPU to fold..

  • hey annyone wanna explaing what this folding@home thing is? thins :)

  • hi i dont understand how you get it so nice and i only see much less ditaild picture or vid. and i dont see how long i have comed only if i hold the mouse over the icond and sory my english is so bad

  • dude whats that song called? its awesome

  • Any one with Nvidia or ATI cards please join my team were 4759 of 158084 team number is 157252. CPU clients welcome :)

  • omg my 8800gt have a 950 iter/sec

  • The iterations/second varies with each protein. Some proteins get higher iter/sec and some get lower.

Also, he has his display window open, which means that the iterations/sec displayed is much, much lower than it is actually calculating when the display is turned off.

The GPU slows down in calculation speeds significantly when the display is shown, so it's important not to measure speed by iter/sec.

Using a program like FahMon to monitor PPD is the best way to get calculating power.

  • my 9800gt have 2000+ iter/sec

  • How do you get the Iter with no display window up?

  • you can see the iter when the viewer slows down about 1 frame per sec , the iters starts to increase,. but it's just an estimation..

  • Use the console client, i get better performance using it on my 4850 :)

Takes 3hrs10mins to complete a work unit with my card (can't tell you iter/s, not shown in console) :)

  • maybe ur CPU is alot faster dats why,,

  • custom pc 6th in world leaderboards
