I had EVR'YTHNG tak'n away by an angry, evil cop&his hired henchmen after this show. My nice canvas bag, ev'rythng I had gather'd, my flipp'n AIRPLANE tix! I had to chase him dwn and beg for that back! "IM so sick of YOUpeople" he was seething w/anger. His unlv thugs just wnted to pound me. Ya, I had shrts but he swooped in & grabb'd me outtof monster shakedwn. The show was so ON and I was on a beautiful journey. I wept like a ragdoll on my buddy's shoulder. This guy was the face of the devil....
This was the last time I had the honor and privilege of seeing Bear live before he had to go. I shared the experience with close friends I had, and new friends made; Ice broken with the passing of a pipe; Sweet aroma of hash, a friendly hello. I may have drank too much beer, thoughts of water lost to the rapture of the day.
The POUNDING headache later, a trivial price to pay for the joy that filled my soul.
The memories left to cherish.
DMB started it's climb to 1my all-time favs here too
I was there. Hot fricken wknd. It was Vegas in June, we knew the stakes. Good times!. Traffic opened. Winwood was del fuego. I'll never forget watching Jerry leaning on an amp rocking out to Dear Mr. Fantasy. He was a fan...just like us.

2: Victim> Eyes> Box Of Rain, Saint> Terrapin> Jam> Drumz> Wheel> Watchtower> Morning Dew E: U. S. Blues
This song is sooo good it brings tears to my heart and 3rd eye.. what a great blend of coarse, down 7 dirty theme & words (whiskey/ stealin' women, etc) and ethereal notes!
In a remote part of the world, where the Dead never shone their lovelight in person, I met an American tonight with a wide beam as he recalled having seen them at Soldier Field (wherever and whenever that may have been). I think he said Jerry was wearing his blue shirt that night, whatever that might mean.
Someone asked me the other day if I'd ever seen the Grateful Dead ... I just smiled, and we passed each other. Later, girlfriend asked me, "What was that all about ?". Again.... I just smiled..... and said, "You've never seen them. Never mind." ;-)
Commenting on another You Tube Thread>>>Robert Weir's precise and meaningful rhythm guitar work is underrated and unnoticed...Just watch him. He is Awesome!
You know that feeling when you are at a Dead show and Phil's Bass is just shaking your body to the core? And you are just flailing around and everything is just so RIGHT? WOW! THis is so cool!
My dad had a business where he loaned his organ to bands that didn't want to bring their own around when they are touring, so he met a lot of famous musicians. So after Jerry died, Vince continued touring playing the Dead's stuff, so he came to town and rented my dad's organ. My dad said he was a real jerk. Was REALLY drunk and threatened to destroy the organ a couple times. After he left, he left a big crystal rock that he put on the organ. So my dad kept it, and gave it to me.
RiP Vince Welnick, a very underestimated talent, that sadly went to waste. Damn you, you haunting Dead Keyboarding legend, it took the best keyboarders!!
Although Jeff Chimenti is doing allright in the recent "Other One/Dead" reunions himself!
Anybody remember how hot it was at these shows. I remember during the day in Vegas it was like 118 degrees and out at the silver bowl it was 105 when the sun went down. Crazy time. I will never forget these show and I saw quite a few.. Peace
I remember driving in from Colorado and at 9:30pm as we crossed into Nevada, the sun was going down and we saw a temp sign that said 114. I walked the strip for a mile at 121. It was ridiculous, but it added to it all.
Bob is the Rock and the band new it all the way to the top. He is a phenominal guy and a creative artist. Jerry was the uniqueness and Bob was the solidness that held those sounds together, I miss Pig Pen. Thanks for all of these great posts ccdw0404. Really great stuff.
and what do you do with your hate? destroy? hurt? have any feelings? then you should be able to tell by now your anger will betray you, in your weakest feelings are your strongest fears, you hate you live you die , we love we live we last
Man... Blues is a rock. A mountain, that only few group of chosen is let to climb on top. Greatful Dead was one of the chosen. Blues is a thing that moves your heart, when your sad, let you fly when you're happy, blues is everywhere!
I was at this show... for the later years it was pretty smokin'. The two things I remember after all these years from this particular song are Jerry's background rhythm work and Vince's surprising organ solo. I think this concert should be released as a DVD.
A ot of people bashed on Vince, and I really never understood why. I thought he blended quite smoothly with the band. And as shown above, the man could jam.
I love this i have it "so loud" i sure hope my neighbours are enjoying the toe tapping rhythm that is slowly consuming me.... Lol

You don't coook much better than this, folks!
Musical farts, from pot tarts, indeed!
Perfect example of how Jerry played off of Weir's rhythm line.

Jerry's licks are the greasiest. They're like little musical farts.
