  • Okay, now I am hungry!

  • This wasn't officially part of the "Pete Smith Specialties" series; this was actually an "Oddities" special, a title the studio often used at the time for "experimental" shorts involving color and other "unusual elements" involved.

  • I love Pete Smith's Specialties. I wish the's release these shorts on their own.

  • Where's the MGM Logo?

  • I just saw it on TCM. It's Coffee the Lion.

  • What's that German saying Pete says? I don't know German.

  • hi do you know where i can see a copy of pete smiths tennis tactics from 1937.

  • Thank you for posting this. I love the Pete Smith Specialties with Dave O'Brien. They're hilarious!!

  • 6:33 -- "Yeeees, a *knife*!!!" ROTFL...

  • 7:46 -- Whoa!!! They had those apple corers back then? Who knew?

  • I LOVE THE PETE SMITH SHORTS! Are any available commercially (or even 'unofficially')? Thanks for posting!

  • You know, it's funny you should mention that! I've been exposed to several Pete Smith shorts via the Warner Home Video DVD Powell/Loy and Rooney/Garland collections, and have recently been thinking how cool it could be if WHV could compile a collection of Pete Smith Specialties and shorts. After all, Sony has recently started issuing the Three Stooges shorts on DVD, to say nothing of Warner's own Tex Avery and Warner cartoons -- why not?

  • you can tell this was made before PC came into fasion. it was still ok to make fun of the woman and her abilities. now it's reversed and the dad is the dope.

  • This wasn't an official "Pete Smith Speciality"- he participated in and narrated dozens of other shorts for MGM {the "Goofy Movie" series, for one} before officially beginning his own series in 1933.

  • Yes, and Una Merkel as the wife and Luis Alberni as the chef-- all familiar faces from 30s and 40s movies. It's two-strip Technicolor, which tended toward the peach and aqua, although this example is pretty faded, there are much more colorful examples out on video.

  • Well, if that isn't Franklin Pangborn as Mr. Omsk! Did anyone notice in the credits that this is (was) shot in Technicolor? A very early example to be sure...and this particular print is so faded it almost appears as B&W! Pete Smith Specialties are great...in a similar vein to Lew Lehr's "Monkyeez is da craaaayziest peepulls!"

  • "We shall soon find out!" a Smith named Pete! I love him.

  • Hurray for a Smith named Pete! This will be my vlog for today. Thank you!
