Ayrton Senna : "If he had not closed the door, nothing would have happened." a year later in Suzuka Ayrton Senna admitted that he did it on purpose. Not closing the door would NOT have saved Alain Prost (!) .
Then in 1,993 he only won due to his utter cowardice excluding Senna from the team. He's such a dirty, dirty champion, so I understand Senna, and if I ever saw a prick like this, I'd also take him out.
Sorry, but I just saw the Senna documentary, and, along with the 1988-1993 races, have made me completely hate prost.
@PROHAMKOB Hmmm..., Don't really get your logic, as Senna didn't do anything risky in Imola 1,994? ?.? In any case, you have to value those titles, and the seasons they did.
Even though I don't promote this action, I understand Senna completely here, and I personally think I would have done the same.
Prost was a whiny prick who couldn't have won a championship without the current FIA director's help, "the professor", more like "the politician".
1,989 he won thanks to a completely ridiculous disqualification, after it was proven Prost took out Senna, and he got DSQ'd, because he cut a f*king chicane? so h should have turned back and take the turn again (+)
@medonhoblu Senna was totally right about his revenge over Prost and FIA, but he was totally wrong in the way he made it. Both he and Prost could flip over and both could be seriously injured or even dead.
@doutorfred I agree with you friend. But think about it: Senna had pole position and Balestre (again this Basletre nepotistic) denied the request for Senna to drop on the clean side of the grid. The clean side favored Prost, who was second on the grid. Unfair to those who madethe pole drop on the dirty side of the track, right? Senna was so full of rage. And it was payback time of 89. ALL THE BLAME BALESTRE!
If you mean in the sense that nothing we do really matters because we eventually die, I may be inclined to agree with that philosophical point. If you mean that the events are somehow connected, then I do not really see how that is possible, considering his death was not due to recklessness.
In any case, I was just offering an explanation nothing more.
@alin1975 that is true, but however, I tend to think that his readiness to assume risks contributed to both this crash 1990 in Suzuka and his death 1994 in Imola. Look at it from a higher persepctive - if someone had asked you 20 or 25 years ago, watch Senna and Prost battle for success - one of them is to survive, the other one is to die in his car, what do you think who will it be? I knew what I would have replied back then. - Anyway, thanks for the response.
First off, had I been asked that, of course I would have said Senna.
However, I see it more as ironic, that after all the reckless driving he did do, he finally dies due to a mechanical failure where driver error is pretty much excluded - meaning it could just as easily have been Prost. Moreover, Senna was nowhere near as reckless in the last few of years of his life. He had matured quite a bit (I believe even Jackie Stewart commented on that).
Just because he happened to secure the title due to this crash doesn't mean he did it on purpose. Prost turned into the corner closing the door, as he is entitled to do so not his fault either, and Senna had been moving up inside him didn't expect Prost to shut the door fully. It's not like Senna turned the wheel into him like another multiple champion I could name.
Senna > Mansell > Prost > Piquet (in Senna's era - before him Villeneuve's era, after him Schumacher's era, but THAT used to be a trully dirty dude in the 1990's, Senna was a SAINT compared to YOUNG Schumacher, now Schumacher is extremely good, despite poor results due to the car, but Sebastian is THE king of this post-Kimi Raikkonen era, nothing touches Seb's near-flawlessness, Sebastian is the next best thing in F1 history after Senna and Fangio, but Fangio was simply too large for today)
The corner was taken FLAT OUT IN 5TH GEAR. There was NO braking whatsoever. Prost shouldn't have opened the door. Senna did nothing unexpected - he was aiming for the inside ALL THE TIME. Prost OPENED the door and closed it too late, when Senna was already IN. The fact that he was in only partially has NO meaning. When somebody faster is already beside you, you cannot force them off the track. Prost's fault, just like Suzuka 1989 (where he also jumped the start and got away with it!!!!).
@jakubkrcma There was plenty of time from when Prost began to move to the inside for Senna to pull out of the move. Senna crashed in protest to the FIA for making him start on the dirty side of the track when it had been promised before qualifying that pole would be moved to the other side.
@C0N72 The situation is that Senna did not prevent the collission, but did not cause it either. He just stayed where he wanted to stay, but he did not crash into Prost, Prost crashed into him (Prost was changing the direction, while Senna had always been aiming for the inside). BTW: When you analyse the very start, it LOOKS like Prost's wheels were turning before the green light! In 1989, he DEFINITELY and BRUTALLY jumped the start, maybe he jumped it again in 1990 as well.
@C0N72 Today, jump starts are judged including a reaction time. So you cannot try your luck and go in advance, hoping that the lights will go off meanwhile. Any movement of the wheels before the lights go off + some minimum human reaction time = jump start. I wonder what would we see if we analysed all Prost's and Senna's starts. Due to Prost's 1984 Monaco waving = "Stop this race while I am still leading!", I bet Prost had a standard procedure of jumping the start (a TINY jump makes HUGE diff.)
@C0N72 Also, you absolutely gotta love Suzuka 1993, where Senna, in an arguably WORSE CAR, beat Prost from the grid, while starting SECOND and on the DIRTY SIDE!!!! WOOOOOW! Also, Alain was sitting in his grid slot with his front wing slighty ahead of the white line, Ayrton slightly behind the white line. So, basically, Ayrton had all the disadvantages and STILL did it. Woooow.
debate what you want over who was better between senna or schumacher they both were absolutely ruthless when they were racing and they both ran people off the road so those who say senna raced with honor and schumacher was a big cheat think again... this video explains what Im talking about
@autorack1 Schumacher is the most overrated driver of all time! He had always the best car than other drivers (and in 1994 his car was totally illegal), just like Vettel nowadays. So stop comparing Schumacher with Senna... the brazilian was ten hundred times better than the german! That's a fact that every F1 expert can not deny.
@reventonfloyd your being a complete idiot right now i never said Schumacher or senna was better than the other i'm just saying that Schumacher gets a bad rep for doing some bad thing's... The only reason that people fail to realize that Senna did thing's worse than Schumacher is because he was killed!
@autorack1 In those early Benneton years, Schumacher was a big cheat. His car had traction control and another electronic aids that were forbidden in that season. This sir, is called cheating.
So how does this make Senna a hero / a true racer and Schumacher (in Jerez 97) a cheat? I just don't get it. Senna even planed to crash into Prost before the race... nothing legandary about that...
dirty manuever from senna as usual, only everyone gets crusified for doing the same thing (Prost, Shumacher, Mansel etc..) and senna somehow gets praised !
Senna only did this because Prost took him out at this race the year before in '89. It's called retribution. Senna didn't make a habit of this type of behavior.
@hanz: $chuie was a cheater. Look at his in car camera when he tried to take out J Villeneuve. That's cheating!!!
@MikeA1231 Oh, so if someone crashes into you in a previous year, you're then permitted to take them out and risk their life. But if there is no sense of "retribution", then it's bang out of order?
So, where is the difference between him and Schumacher? Everyone think that Senna was the great gentleman-driver, but he wasn´t. And you have to be an asshole to become the best. I think Senna is the "Jesus" of F1 because he is dead. Schumacher is still alive and because of that not a hero, but for alot of people the big jerk-cheater-asshole driver who won 7 championchips with luck and cheating.
@hanzJPS as an all round driver Shumi is better, Senna won his titles with the best team in the championship, shumi won two titles with a small team against the mighty Williams, and after that he took ferrari from the dead and beat the best team again this time Mclaren. that would be like Senna winning the title with Lotus against McLaren and of course he didn't....Shumi is a combination of Sennas speed and prosts intellegence, so people who say he's lucky and a cheater are just pathetic losers
@truesemite mate he is not, simply because in those years schumi had no rivals, when he had rivals he lost, senna on the other hand won against yje best drivers of all time, like prost and mansell, schumi didnt and schumi won in 1994 by hitting hill on purpose, and tried the same in 1997 with villeneuve, but failed that time, so senna way better than schumi, statistics are useless in these types of questions ;)
@SennaHamilton4ever no rivals ? he beat Hill in 94 with an inferior car and even though the Mosely mob tryed to cut him down with outragious penalties and what happend in australia was pure justice after what the FIA did to Shumi all season, and also keeping up with Hakkinen in the superior McLaren in 98 and then beting him in 2000 was something to behold, senna never won a title in an inferior car why didnt he stay with lotus and revitalise them like Shumi did with ferrari ?
@truesemite why dident shumi revitalise another team when he was boring the sport to death, most of the time he was just a driver in a fast car,he always went around the teams thinking he was to speacial to loose to teammates, moss said he was lucky to win all his titles ,senna was against all time greats like prost, mansell, piquet, in 91 williams had a better car,in an inferior car in 93 he was runner up to one of the best ever drivers & cars
@truesemite Senna never won in an inferior car? Clearly you haven't seen the 1991 season when WIlliams had the best car by far, only suffering from reliability early on. Plus the Ferrari was the better car in the last half of 1990, yet Senna still won.
@SennaHamilton4ever oh one thing mate, Prost and mansell made mincemeat of Senna when they were driving superior cars and it got to the point where they won the championship to easily, whilst shumi in 97, 98 and 06 kept up with the superior Williams, McLaren and renault to the last round. although i do admit he made a shit of himself with this comeback he's certainly to old to compete !
What a cheater and a liar.. He knew that if Prost did not finish that race he would be immediately sacred champion and he deliberately did this.. he confessed it later..confirming he was a liar.. That's unworthy of a champion and despite whatever he did else I will never consider him as the best driver ever because he was not a gentleman...
