  • thats real cool that you guys were able to get 4160 up and running again! have you guys run this locomotive quite alot since you got it going and have you had alot of issues with it due to it sitting so long?

  • sounds like sd40s and deltics have alot in common

  • How many cubic inches is this engine ? I asume that it is a two stroke by the air ports in the cylinders . Cool engine ! I work on a lot of big Cats and cummins done some older Detroits even some old 110 series .

  • How many sleeves had to be switched out on this baby? Any video of the repairs?

  • @vth5 None so far. No video of the repairs, it took a lot of kroil, and a 10ton porto-power between the frame and a bar into the barring holes on the generator.

  • You can tell its a two stoke diesel.i can see the ports in the sleeves

  • I hope there was some lube!

  • Sweet motor footage! When I first went to IRM, when I was five, that's what I was afraid of the static locos doin'! But, they WERE static. Thanx fur sharin'!

  • Thats alot of roatating mass!

  • Is this 12 or 16cyl. bc-567 W/max. RPM of 800?

  • 16, and yes, 800rpm.

  • I thought the 567 was a 12 cylinder. What was the horsepower rating of this engine?

  • 567 is just the cubic inches per cylinder. They come in a 6, 8, 12 and 16 cylinder variations. This 16 is rated at 1500HP.

  • Ok, thanks.

  • Well now I can see why it seized!

  • It seized from it being stored for 10 yesrs with no stack covers, thats lots of rainwater into the cylinders.

  • The only holes are where the inspection covers go for the air box and crankcase.
