  • should you de-shell the prawns/shrimp before you throw them in?

  • @mojo5141 You just use white rice and typically chicken or sausage is used but you could add whatever you like

  • I can't be the only one that laughed when they saw the sausage..

  • I like how you Brits say risotto. It's so funny, but cool!!

  • I liked Alex at this time before he dressed like a blind lesbian

  • @Jespahhh that is the most accurate description of his wardrobe I’ve heard yet

  • is this similar to paella?? what rice did you use? and I take it you can add the meat you want too have in it? xx

  • @mojo5141 very similar principle... paella is a spanish tradition this is from central america. It was an American long grain rice.

  • Just like to say that this is now my go-to recipe for an easy, one pot cooking meal :) You have saved a poor student from starvation. THANK YOU SORTED :) xx

  • Everybody complaining that it's not a dish from South America needs to stop getting uptight and stop interpreting things in such a narrow manner. South is being used as a descriptor to specify which part of America, like if they were to say East America, West America, North London, or South Wales.

I'm sure it's just a difference in how adjectives and modifiers are used between English and American English.

  • @jackrabbit08 It's not a dialect difference at all. It's the use of America to describe the US that's causing the issue. South America is a continent. With several separate countries in it. What he means is southern United States. The point is that a Brazilian or an Argentinian would be about as likely to know jambalaya as someone from Kenya, or Germany. When America is used with no qualifiers then it can refer to the country, but adding North or South makes it about the continents

  • Jambalaya is NOT South American. You people SUCK with your misinformation.

  • so as an american I have never heard Jambalaya as a south american (the continent) dish but always a part of the south of the United States in New Orleans that has french touch

  • This whole video is just so...........sexy.

  • While i do love you with all my stomach Ben, Jambalaya is not a southern american dish. You're correct that it's similar to the spanish 'paella,' however, it originates from the French Quarter of New Orleans. But you're sexy, so it works.

  • i love how the sorted guy sounds a little offended by alex's comments on his very.... unique... diet

  • I like Alex in purple :)

  • i am on a strict diet, it has been 6 months now and your vids are killing me man :((((((((((((((

  • i just subbed. loved the recipes and videos. think you're awesome. :)

  • i don't have any turmeric on hand...what do i do? can i leave it out?

  • @simplychic1 It will take out some of the colour, but it won't be the end of the world!

  • Normal jambalaya doesn't have peas in it. interesting might try it. and yeah its not from south america.

  • i made this today & cut the recipe in half, but it still enough for 3 people as the dish is very filling. it was a bit gloopy, but still delicious!

  • @scardillyosis It would work perfectly! Also check out beef and ale stew or lamb curry!!

  • I was wondering, could you do this in a crock pot? Also, could you do some crock pot recipes?

  • How about haggis, or something German?

  • onions, sizzling in hot oil? ...my eyes are burning just thinking about it,,,

  • This is seriously getting me into cooking... Not just because of Alex... But you guys are good O_O

  • Ok Ben, I'm sorry I'm often critical but I made this following the measurements on Sorted website and it calls for 800 ml chicken stock + the tomatoes. Now, clearly that is incorrect because just looking at my pot, I promptly added more rice (100g) but still ended up with a glop. In the video, you clearly put 500 ml stock, not 800 ml. It saddens me cause I'm sure some ppl were sad to fail at such a simple recipe. Sorry again for the criticism - love you guys! :)

  • @mortadelletube Thanks for your message and it's great to see you're trying the recipes! I can only apologise... you're absolutely right... the stock measurement on the site was a typo it should have been 500ml. I've corrected it now... thanks! Glad to hear you were able to adapt the recipe to add more rice though. Thanks again for letting us know! :D

  • why did alex get a straw at the ending

  • the way alex was peeling the celery was bothering me

  • you guys should totally open a restaurant

  • I think you mean southern America lol!

  • *Jambalaya ^^;

  • Jumbalaya is now my favourite food ever. XD

  • mouth is watering

  • While I'm sure that dish is fairly tasty, I wouldn't actually call that a jambalaya. Although, maybe I'm just picky....being from the jambalaya capitol of the world and all.....

  • If you call the American South 'South America,' what do you call the continent?

  • Planning to make this for my famalam tomorrow. Is the sausage you use Mattessons? Also, I don't really like chilli. Is it a staple flavour or can I substitute it with something else? Thanks

  • Could you use Chorizo in this? Or would the flavour of chorizo be too strong with the rest?

  • @orangecirclekid Oh yes, that would work really well!!

  • ah hem! Its pronouned pie-a-ah the ll makes a y sound.

  • when he dropped the onions in the pan my eyes watered... thats not normal.

  • Comment removed

  • I know you said you can not use sausage, but what meat substitutions would you recommend? Personally, I keep kosher, any suggestions according to those limitations?

  • Isitjustmeordoesthismeallookexpensive?

  • I literally just made this.

    IT'S SO GOOD.

  • I usually skip breakfast, not dinner

  • Doesn't ben feel the heat???

  • Omg... I WANT THIS NOW.

  • Do you guys do dishes for the pescatarians?

  • in the u.s we pronounce it jumbalaya even though it's spelled jambalaya...weird

  • jambalaya originates from Louisiana/New Orleans area in the united states.

Absolutely nothing to do with "south america", wrong continent.

  • What kind of stock do you guys use? Please answer back

  • @theaznboiFrankie No worries, we look at all comments and try our best to answer as many as possible! We used chicken stock for this :-D

  • @sortedfood Thanks!

  • @theaznboiFrankie It's probly chicken

  • @sortedfood come on!! I'm waiting for your paella! i wanna make that for my cousin haha

  • @AudySarah1 Haha it'll definitely be in the New Year!!

  • I find it funny to hear someone asking what is jambalaya because i have grown up eating that food often.

  • my right ear loved the intro

  • By "South American" did he actually mean southern U.S.? For all I know it may have originated in South America, but when I think of Jambalaya, I think of New Orleans.

  • @Jaryth14

Yeah he means southern US :)

  • if you don't have a saucepan like that could you use something more open, like a wok?

  • 4:44 "i'm all over that"

    and then he burns himself...

  • that looks delicious!

  • if ur vegatarian can u skip the sausage?

  • @HannahvsHomework Can do if you like!

  • @HannahvsHomework but not skip the chicken?

  • @Lolabeanzaage i eat white meat but not red

  • Also, could you make a paella?

  • @kamg626 It's definitely on the list...I'll give it a bump

  • I hate the texture of cooked onion, if I made this, could I cut up the onion smaller so it kind of disapeared? I don't mind the taste, just the texture.

  • @kamg626 Yup, no problem, if that's what you prefer!

  • @kamg626 you can grate if you want it finer

  • he laughed sooooo much

  • You should have used a wider pot.

  • everything except their voices are soo loud!

  • warm up the chilli? lol!

  • umm comfort food..

  • 'Let me just fish one out.'

    'Waheeyy.'

  • meat on a wooden cutting board? tisk tisk...

  • haha oh alex is so delicate cutting up the bell peppers. crazy that he and mike go way back!

  • "first things first..." haha

  • Can you chop the pepper and celery into smaller pieces or will it get mushy?

  • @planton10 you can do... although we prefer it is you keep everything chunky and rustic. It will cook a little more if smaller and since you have to keep stirring it it will break them up. So unless you're trying the 'hide' the veg from unsuspecting fussy eaters then best to keep them large.

  • why don't they eat the food

  • Do you mean South America as in the continent or South America in terms of the Country America?

  • @ItsFormulaFive I'm sure he means the southern states in the US. I live in Mississippi, and it's a really popular dish down here.

  • Oh God, my mum is cooking in the next room, and just for a second I thought I could smell the food in the video *face palm*

  • is tomato crucial? because me and my mom don't really like it :/

  • its not from south america its from united states its cajun food duh get it right

  • YOU PRONONCED THE FOOD NAME WRONG

  • hahaha I love how awkwardly alex cuts the food

  • More ONE pot cooking!!!!!!!

  • Why is charlies video lemon vomit the Featured Video? :)

  • Jambalaya was the first ever proper meal we made in my home economics class, it was yummy. Let's just say our cooking skills have improved a little since then though ;)

  • I think this is the most appetising recipe you guys have every put out! It always makes me oh-so-hungry!

  • @brilliantlybritish Alex laughs at everything! <3

  • 4:44

  • As a Californian it's weird for me you hear you call it South American, haha... maybe Southern American would be a better distinction?

  • lol! Alex chops so awkwardly! lol!

  • I Wish I was your roomate. T_T

  • ok.. so you;ve added chicken with sausage and then shrimps ??!!!?!?!

  • Made this today, but changed it alot - no celery, lots of mushrooms, courgettes and butterbeans, and didn't ctually add the rice to the pot (so I could freeze it)... and I don't know exactly what is was when I finished, but it was bloody lovely!

  • @katia146 Love it! That's what its all about. Use recipes as written if you prefer or simply to inspire and then make them your own! :D

  • You think that's a big pot? My aunt has one that a four year old child could sit in and you could probably put a lid on it. Now THAT'S a big pot.

Next time I go to her house I'll ask my little brother to sit in it just test it. But I swear it's that big.

  • What kind of rice did you use?

  • That looks really delicious! I'll admit, I found this channel because of Alex, but I love cooking, so I'm glad to subscribe to you gentlemen!!

  • @MistyMorningKristy i found it through crabstickz :P but yeah i'm glad i found them as well, been watching their videos back to back

  • It's not south american, it's a creole dish from the southern united states. Yes, there is a difference. >_>

  • @marrionetta No, it's definitely South American. My dad used to see it all the time when he was growing up in Brazil. It's like the equivalent of tacos for Mexico.

  • @marrionetta yeah it's a Louisiana creole dish with spanish and french influences. You're right

  • I dont have a pan like that, but i do have a massive wok, would that do the same job?

  • wow that looks so good might kneed a bigger pot :)

  • Alex has the best laugh!!!

and this looks really good (:

  • omg that looks so good, I wanna try this!

  • I have never in my life peeled celery, and I found it quite amusing to watch Alex do it

  • a clusterfuck of food

  • What can you use instead of the peppers, because I really don't like them? The chilli's fine, it's just the peppers I don't like. Awesome channel, though guys :) x

  • @DimzzyA You can leave the peppers out... not essential.

  • can you do it without peas??

  • @graystudios

    Yes

  • Is "prons" (or whatever you said) the British word for shrimp? Or is it a different thing?

  • @GrayStudios 'Prawns' = shrimp. In Australia we say prawns too :)

  • @GrayStudios Prawns are to shrimp as yams are to sweet potatoes

  • Made this the other day, tasted brilliant, loved it! Keep up the good work! :)

  • made this for dinner tonight and it was great!

  • jambalaya is a creole/hatian/louisianan dish

  • I had different tyoes of Jambalaya and they all taste great :D

  • guys, it pronounced JUmbalaya, not jambalaya

  • charlies video has double the views:(

  • This way the Day before my Birthday :DD

  • cute guy on the very left <3

  • Jambalaya is not South American... its creole and from Louisiana bahahaha!

  • im just watching this because nerimon is in it.

  • Jambalaya is not from South America. It's from the American South!

  • Mine is a lot more red than you guys thanks to the tomato juice, do you think I used a different kind? Everything has cooked through, I just don't quite understand why mine looks different to this =P

  • There's no laugh like Alex's!

  • I'd really like to try that, might make it at home one day. It looks good, only thing is I've never really tried prawns, but I'd give it a go. Looks really nice. :)

  • Aw, Alex is so adorable. :3

  • that awkward moment when jambalaya is also in new orleans, louisiana...... not just south america.....

  • @crazychix101 Until I read your comment, I thought he mean southern american as in the south of north america HAHA.

  • @crazychix101

Are you serious? South American means it was first created in South America, not that it only exists in South America.. Also, South America is not the south side of the United States, it's a continent..

  • @PneumonicFungus LOL i dont even know if i wanna see this person's comment that you are replying to here...oh jeese...i hate stupid people

  • @crazychix101 I think he meant the southern United States of America... most people, me included sometimes don't differentiate... It's easier that way

  • @crazychix101 Right. but they are not in America. plus jambalaya is made different ways. i don't use tomato sauce at all.

  • @crazychix101 right? It originated in New Orleans...maybe he meant Southern (United States of) America? Of course, Ben also calls some weird quiche-like thing a tortilla...

  • @mellamokori In some Spanish-speaking countries (mostly Spain, I think) a tortilla or a tortilla de huevos is an omelet :)

  • Alex: "i'm not famous!"

    Me: "Yes you are"

  • OMG ALEX LOOKS LIKE ANDY MURRY

  • I just can't do Jambalaya I guess. I'm allergic to shellfish and I can't really do spicy food lol

  • @echastain07 You don't have to put the shrimp in. When we make Jambalaya at my house, it's usually just a chicken and sausage jambalaya. And you don't have to put all the peppers and chile in. All of that is mostly extra.

  • ... Why are you peeling the celery?

  • Could I leave out the sausage? I don't eat red meat

  • lol thats not how we make it (in new orleans), and south america and the southern united states are veeery different.

  • Psh you don't need to do all this work. Just get a box of Zatarain's!

  • Can i leave out the prawns i'm allergic

  • bothered me how many times he said jambalaya is from "South America" when it is actually from the southern part of the united states (which is in fact part of North America) more specifically Louisiana.

also usually it is made with Crayfish which is like a small lobster, although it can be made with prawns like shown.

  • I hate the host guy. He has no sense of humor.

  • @TolaMady

well SOMEONE has to keep up the proffesionalism

it's actually a cooking channel rather than a a comedy show.

hence why there are always 1 or 2 presenters thagt act as jesters to amp up the entertainment.

  • Alex looks mega sweet in that jumper ><

  • i don't like peas.

  • Southern American (United States) sir.

  • South America... fail.

  • 'well i'll just fish one out' ... 'wheyyy' :'D

  • So naive nerimon, everyone knows you are famous

  • Not a South American dish, it's Cajun. Also, the true cajun dish, does not have peas or tumeric in it.

  • @aimster02 most of the rest of the world will say american for people in the states. Just like he said. when you here south american you think the continent, while he mean south USA

and i don't think their is a limit of what you can put in a jambalaya so void that.

  • just made this awhile ago... like it... :)

  • "It should make that sound right"
