  • Artists are the most advanced beings on the planet Earth. Jean was one of the best; Andy even better. Their work is as cerebral as writing, and as emotive as music. It is essential that we understand the truth in them and their works. It is essential that we understand, and subsequently do not understand, the truth in the world and in ourselves. We are all made of the same stuff: Go to Google and search The Truth Contest, click on the first result, then The Present

  • you can see basquits good people who study art and cant paint draw or film anything wine on about whats art because they have no talent.

  • @joebstarsurfer No, because it's a legitimate question that many artists before them were busy starving or fighting in war and had no chance to ask.

  • Fish which swin murky water can not be fish..

Shalom ken, bibe aqva pvra morre kadesh.

  • He say he's Catholic.. Pope shall telephonize to Warhol: shoot up!!

  • his only ad only true friendship was with andy, as andy didnt want anything from JM..

sadly another member of the murderous illuminati '27 Club.. '

Thanks for giving us your light Jean, it was blinding..

  • @SovereignBeing oh that evil illuminati

  • No 'K' I found Dee as he wanted to purchase one of the few drawings I have left that I purchased from Jean Michel...He was wild about it..still have if you are interested.Emai;l me!

  • as for the "retarded" children, its plausible they would have an original vision that could unsettle our eyes and teach us something. they might not be reliable as artists, but they made something that became art for someone. THIS is what is at stake when you look at something, YOUR own personal evolution and the evolution you can inspire in others. much more important than labelling things ART / NOT ART. you can't prove anyone a liar, but if you have a 'better' vision, it'll show. dont worry!

  • we're talking different kinds of rarity. technical talent is indeed rare. but so is an original personality who can make art that people can always identify as coming from that particular artist. around the 20th century, originality started taking over as the main criteria of what made an artist valuable. people who support this criteria believe in searching out original brains regardless of whether they are attached to talented hands.

  • CRAP CRAP, I don't call that art, people (some) are so stupid, that crack head couldn't to save his life. he should've been arrested for defacing public property. saw a film once where some of those so-called art critics were tricked into thinking they were seeing art by some genius, and of course they thought it was brilliant, then they were told the art was created by school kids from a special needs (retarded) children. art critics are a bunch of imbeciles.

  • This is like listening to Van Gogh.

  • hey ! basquiat wrote E correctly

  • cools and goods video, I like this ^__^

  • Interviewer: Why are the people painted so crudely?

Jean-Michel Basquiat: Because i've never met a refined person.

  • @JaycountinStackz I get what you are saying, but what I'm saying is that I don't think it's any coincidence that every personality, artist, actor, model, or whomever else he became "friends" with died tragically. Often from overdosing on heroin. He used those people to help make himself look more hip. And when they were no longer needed (or he just used them all up) he treated them as though they were just disposable nothings. I actually hate Andy Warhol, but for more reasons than that...

  • Still have a few left Dee...I don't want them...let me know..purchased directly from Jean Michel, all provenance and letters ...email me hun...

  • @orbital92hotmail Get the fuck outta here with that bullshit

  • D I have several exhibition catalogs that dear Jean Michel signed for me and drew a little complimentary sketch...they are truly collector's items...If you want them you can have them ..just hand me a fe

w bucks...I have the 2 drawings left here on the wall...make me an offer hun...email me here or on yahoo...best! J

  • Am I the only one (based on Warhols history) think Warhol got Basquiat hooked on heroin and killed him indirectly just like he did some of his "friends"?

I mean the guy supplied any drug to his "friends" and let them live at his place while they made his art basically.

All Warhol would take was a small tab of speed while the others were fed anything they wanted lsd, heroin, etc.

I'm all for experimenting and creating YOURSELF, but is all of that not kind of sketchy to anyone else?

  • @Ievolovel You're waaaay off base and misinformed..

  • FUCK KID CUDI

  • SHUT THE FUCK UP ABOUT KID CUDI, PEOPLE.

  • another beautiful person that andy warhol helped along the path to destruction. andy warhol is/was like cancer to every artist or personality he helped make sucessful.

  • @rockstardoc actually warhol was not so famous back then and at this time period him hanging around jean michel made him more famous since basquait was the "it guy" of the art world. plus basquait was on heroin..

  • @JaycountinStackz Err, warhol was already big then

  • the actor who played him sounds just like him lmao

  • pop graphitti's birth

  • @bestofintentions777 pfffft ..... w a y before that lol

  • Illumination = Necromancy

    Necromancy + "Illumination" = $

    Sarebbe un bel passo avanti...

  • kid cudi whiiiiii kid cudi yeah basquiat looks like kid cudi look kid cudi, look he looks like him look kid cudi,ha ha he look like kid cudi hahahah so funny

  • @19tomislav93 You're right. And Cudi's very artistic and can come across just as introspective. Perhaps he's channeling Basquiat or the rebirth, the age is about right.

  • Two of the greatest artists behind Pop art !

  • @meucury8eye Well, two of the better-known con artists, anyway.

  • Happy Birthday Andy!!!!! Hope you are enjoying the view up there. :)

  • This was the Kid Cudi of painting.

  • @TheroMakepe Kid Cudi is an insanely awful rapper, so no.

  • @TheroMakepe Will u please retract that statement !! what the fuck has kid cudi done ...nobody will know his name in 3 years !! They will tak Basquiat 300 years from now !!

  • @7thvenom Yo man didn't mean to offend anybody, I'm a fan off both.

  • @TheroMakepe Al good bro .... I did not mean to bark @ you !!!

  • Basquiat. What a great talent! NY misses you!

  • @starstuff that crack head couldn't draw to save his life, he had no talent, NONE

  • who the hell is kid cudi?

  • @scottymcphat He's a Brooklyn based rapper who looks like Jean-Michel Basquiat. Day N Nite is one of his better songs.

  • I tend to think Jean would have spent more time with Andy, had Andy lived longer.

  • YEAH HE DOES LOOK LIKE KUD CUDI!!!

  • No D but I have e few drawings in storage by Jean Michel...I purchased them directly from him in the mid 80s...Met him 4,maybe five times to make purchases...Call me or email me if you want to make an offer...

  • I love the works of Steve Kaufman too.

  • overrated

  • Two awesome artists!

  • well i was about to say something about kid cudi but... lol

  • The degradation can also be defined as a regression back to point time zero: the point of a person's birth. And also the elimination of universally applicable empirical self-consciousness: the knowledge that all of mankind can have in common gathered through their senses. Then "art" became the pinnacle antithesis of what art should be. To simply paint a picture of some "thing" never "seen" before, show "it" to the "child" mind: which had regressed back to point time zero, and watch them react.

  • In 1480 Leonardo da Vinci produced the world's first, and only, visual musical equivalent. This is what enabled art to acquire the title of "Art." This visual music contains a mathematical syntax. Experiencing of this syntax requires a developed cognitive capability. a prerequisite to this is a person's ability to cognize "space." We can actually "see" this ability degenerating from 1480 to 1880, with the introduction of Picasso, and the elimination of "intelligence" in and of "Art."

  • @MrMikeludo I don't know if you'll ever read this, but I couldn't agree with you more, people like him degrades and demeans true artistry and talent. it's a shame that some lawbreaking drug addict with no talent whatsoever be given such honors. even one of his quotes was " believe it or not I cam really draw" what an insult.

  • @latination2013 If you are interested in reading some more thoughts in reference to these concepts, or interested in discussing them with others, there is a forum where I have explained some more, here:"Philosophy Chat Forum (PCF) Philosophy Chat & Forums for discussion..." My post is in the "Art" forum Titled "What Is Art - Da Vinci The Annunciation." They welcome new members.

  • KiD CuDi's Father!!

  • you're dicks

  • Kid Cudi FTW

  • I don't see a lot of Warhol in those paintings... and anyway he wasn't really known for painting with a brush...

  • @ivelosthewilltolive

or even doing his own work!

  • Jean Michel was Madonna's boyfriend at the time..

  • the new warhol? watch?v=d_VhkbZspiM

  • He spoke just like Jimi Hendrix.

  • Epic!!

  • @kegasuru amen.

  • Thomas Kinkade vs Basquiat, both crap at two opposite sides of the spectrum.

Dont let yourself be brainwashed by the merchants of fast art.

  • sorry I meant like the frog slowly boiling in the pot as in being indoctrinated and we don't even know it.

  • I thought it was Kid Cudi, he looks and sounds just like him. Cudi should do a movie or a video that talks about this guy. what do you think?

  • how these idiots get any attention baffles me.

  • @dfstarborn They got your attention. At least they did something in the world. What have you done?

  • @mykep28

I always wondered what was the big deal about this queer person now I don't wonder anymore as I don't find him in the slightest bit interesting a 2 year old child would put more effort in to a painting its all about status and who you know not about true art.

  • @dfstarborn When you say queer person, are you referring to Andy? If you don't find "these idiots" interesting, then why are you even watching this video? I have no interest in Justin Bieber, so I don't watch anything about him on Youtube or anywhere else. It's that simple. If you don't like them, don't watch. I agree, sometimes it is about who you know and not the art (Mr. Brainwash).

  • @dfstarborn

I'm very concerned at how we build people up in to Idols when all they are is humans I'm very concerned at how the Babylonians are slow like the frog cooking in the pot, indoctrinating us in to they're system.

  • @dfstarborn

well, sister, not all the "queers" are able to paint the ceiling of the Cappella Sistina.... You knew, did you not ,that Michelangelo was a fag...so was Leonardo ( ever went to the Louvre and saw La Gioconda ? )

  • @Warholsdick LOL! thats comment is soooo gay

  • @streetball102

so is "soooo " , sister ! Did you wrote it with your mouth open ??

  • @dfstarborn

  • Grind your teeth till they fall apart.

Spit them out and call it art.

  • I don't see how he looks like Kid Cudi...

  • El ARTE te recuerda que eres UNICO, que tienes un punto de vista particular...

LA TV... quiere que todos seamos IDENTICOS...

  • JESUS CHRIST is my refuge and my fortress: In Him will I trust

  • @ePRTN awright easy now, easy

  • Basquiat's paintings look like shit, I would only let him scribble over my paintings if I knew it was going to make me some serious cash by selling it to rich fucking-idiots.

  • @illustriouschin art does not have to be pretty, it does not have to look like something you recognize, it is not about any of that elementary stuff, it is about seeing it and feeling connected to the piece, some do not get it or like it and that is cool, everything is not for everyone but the intelligent response is not to discount it but to just say it does not speak to you and not display ignorance by calling people idiots, it makes you seem like one.

  • @kimmyrabb I could eat off one of his paintings which means I can use it as a plate which means it has a use besides just being art which makes them not art. And yes, not only do rich idiots exist, but rich fucking-idiots exist, I don't have to sugar coat it because I do not fear the rich fucking-idiots even if they sent their own personal hit squad to come kill me, it doesn't make them smarter.

  • @kimmyrabb I beg to differ, I believe when people express an opinion as to what is considered artistic or not, does not mean they're not "connecting" it simply means that they don't think something should be called art. I like some of his strong color conbinations and compositions, but I don't think he was particularly talented. most art critics are a bunch of self-proclaimed visionaries, but I think most are clueless. so, talent does matter to some of us, peace

  • @illustriouschin Yeah, I kind of think he looks way better then his paintings.

  • Dee do you still want the drawing i bought from Jean?

    let me know!

  • He's like Lady Gaga's ancestor or something.

  • @Choosilicious please dont even attempt to call lady gaga unique or special as that amazing guy in the video. honestly lady gaga tries to be a collaboration of all the unique artists out there.. WHICH IS A FLOP.

  • @Choosilicious mmmm no...

  • @wiggin2 Gaga is not unique, she just isn't. I am old enough to remember artist that were far more unique and they had the nerve to have to be that way in America when the society was WAY MORE conservative and when being very political, out of the closet, dressing in the strangest ways could end your career so it was much more dangerous back then, now it is just show-biz, not that big of a deal. I have seen it before and I have seen it done better but the kids think she is new, she is not

  • Exactly!

  • great.

    ANDREA SANA.com

  • damn...kid cudi looks like him

  • @19tomislav93 IKR! Jean is Black & Purto Rican & Kid Cudi is Black & Mexican

  • Emperors new clothes

  • Pretentious garbage...the both of them.

  • @melrodas You obviously do not know anything about arts.

  • @md991free GIVE.ME.A.BREAK.

  • the song is THE STAPLE SINGERS - SLIPPERY PEOPLE

  • Sideshow Bob totally has Basquiat's haircut XD

  • @zadeh79 i am totally agree with you pardner! basquiat is a big shit of modern art.

  • @zadeh79

Wher's your work being shown so we can compare?

  • @drewav8r Every time I take a dump.

  • The worst even is that the minorities that are supposed to get any ^benefit^ from his work, from his ideas, wont ever understand his work, not even the people who buys it, is all about the critics and is all in the name of money, if one artist do work like this and want to be SERIOUS, he cannot accept money. then... that would be a nice start.

  • Comment removed

  • Reminds me of the story of the Emperor's New Clothes, like so much of Modern Art. Amazing that supposedly sophisticated, intelligent collectors could fork over millions for this rubbish.

  • check the new wall painting ARABIC VEGAS by 1905 on my profile

  • HE LOOKS LIKE KID CUDI!!! (O_o)

  • @evakeyz basquiat had a more childish look kid cudi no.

  • @evakeyz Nah, he looks more like the Slim Jim dude with that hair.

  • @evakeyz LOL and he does!

  • @evakeyz

    It's the other way around

  • @evakeyz right

  • @evakeyz yeah he just a has much cooler haircut

  • @evakeyz

really...why would you even say that.

  • too cool for school

  • o my lord this guy looks exactly like kid cudi

  • The artist Basquiat had something to say with his life .His work is worth million's and worth every penny.

  • He's actually kinda cute in this film. I assume before the drugs started. Years along his skin became very bad.

  • @mizzpretee

I'm sure the drugs didn't help, but he had legitimate health problems that caused that. When he was a kid he got hit by a car, causing internal injuries and having his spleen removed. I believe his skin was predicted to get even worse over time.

  • Abstract art is bullshit, so easy a 3 year old could do it and get labeled as a genius. Nothing but random shapes and colors that abstract art critiques mark as Masterpieces, and as a result the public gets a predetermined bias when actually viewing said pieces, that's how abstract artists become famous from a bunch of clueless sheep. Basquiat couldn't draw worth shit all he did was throw paint at a blank canvas like a damn caveman he had no more artistic skill then a toddler.

  • @SupremeCommander360 If it's so easy, why aren't you making millions practicing the premise of your well-cultivated and informed wisdom?

  • @fasolplanetarium

I never said that everyone that makes abstract art makes millions, there is a fat chance that you would actually be able to pull something like that off, you just have to be in the right place at the right time and have the right person see your work. It's a coincidence that Basquiat became famous. Have anyone make some abstract crap and it's probably not going to become famous unless some noteworthy clueless art critic or gallery owner labels it so.

  • @SupremeCommander360 If you knew your art history, you'd know that this "coincidence" you speak of is applicable to every artist. Is it not a coincidence in the first place that art is so esteemed so as to allow artists to make so much money? What art isn't abstract? Art is simply a representation of a signifier. That in itself is immensely abstract. Why don't you just leave art alone and reside in your world of perpetual meaning.

  • probably lack of contacts and promotion, and thats the true genius behind these guys...

  • @SupremeCommander360 it was the idiosyncratic feelings he instilled into his work and that was felt by those who viewed it that made his work so special.

he just had a special style that many people saw as vibrant and 'cutting edge' and a lot of people ended up taking notice of it because he knew the right people to show it to and the rest is history as they say...

  • @SupremeCommander360 We are all entitled to our own opinions. Just shut the fuck up and do it yourself if it's so easy.

  • @SupremeCommander360 actually the general public commonly has the sort of reaction you have. i think you've got it all wrong. as far as everything else you have said i don't even know where to begin. its like the teabagger videos; all i can do is shake my head in disgust.

  • Could someone confirm whether or not the kid in Gil Scott Heron's video for 'The Bottle' is a young Basquiat? I've found no mention of it anywhere but it looks so much look him! I've done a bit of research and he would have been just the right age for the boy too in 1972 when the video was made- in New York too! Kid comes in at 27 seconds!

  • It was amazing what these artists did, all for their love of Britney Spears.

  • I respect both artists. It was a gift to us that they were able and willing, to work together. I don't see manipulation, I see beautiful artwork.

  • The Talking Heads (David Byrne)

  • his art sux but he is pretty cute i can see why warhol liked him.

  • I think that Warhol got a ride on Basquiat's Art,he was much more talented as Warhol

  • I think that Warhol got a ride on Basquiat's Art

  • Fail.

  • Warhol mocked popular images and commercialism, but he became as greedy as any businessman. Basquiat was totally original and anyone who only sees childish doodeling in his artwork...doesn't own an imagination.

  • his work is not childish at all, but that doesnt have anything to do with the fact that most of it is crap, with a nice random idea thrown in. I go for Soutine anyday.

  • yeah he does look like cudi lol

  • looks just like kid cudi !

  • To me this was child drawings, how on earth did this become art, I guess when enough people say you're a legend you are.

  • Yeah I know....Andy ..prescription drugs are sø fucking addictive •

  • anyone knows the name of the Hungarian young actress which Basquiat dated?

  • Who knew ART was all about your hair. I have to get a wig, I guess.

  • i thought andy warhol was a singer for some reason. this jean - michal Basquiat(?) dude is horrible. i stopped at :42 seconds and i literally said outloud "thats fucking horrible".

    what is art?

  • @xMy3Dx art is what ever you want it to be. I love Warhol, Basquiat, Pollock, Rothko because they speak to me. They may not speak to you and that is okay also because everything is not meant for everyone, there is no one way to say this is or is not art.

Before Basquait arrived in the late 70's most acceptable art was minimal art, she changed that, he made people uncomfortable and rethink art, that is the mark of a great artist. Make people think, even it they do not like it., think.

  • thanks so much i find the video's version, it's The Staples Singers "slippery people", pops staples voice is pretty much recognizable in the video

  • i don't mean to repeat myself but that song, when basquiat and warhol are talking in the studio, is too damn funky, anybody knows the title of it?

  • @romainvai It's the Talking Heads "Slippery People", it sounds like the Stop Making Sense version.

  • @omahaskye It is Slippery People but it's definitely not the version found on Stop Making Sense, the female back up singers do not sound like they are singing lead in that version. And it's not the version on Speaking In Tongues. My guess is that it's a cover, which I didn't know was even made. Going to research that.

  • Comment removed

  • The song is called "Slippery People" by the Talking Heads

  • @romainvai "Slippery People" by Talking Heads

  • What a great artist! I just wish he had lived long enough to see his greatness.

  • What is the name of the song when basquiat and warhol are talking in the studio?
