I found out that this song on the original release was the 1st track to the Bark at the Moon album (all the reissues changed it to the title track being the opening track)  Personally, I think this song fits better as the opening track, but that's just me.

As a lifelong Ozzy fan, I've disliked this version of the song because I feel it is inferior to the orginal Bark at the Moon version. They've messed with the solos and it's set to a slightly different tempo. The original version is of course amazing.

What a song! But this seems a little bit over tweaked. Why does remastering often mean changing what was a perfectly good original recording. This seems to have loads more reverb than is necessary. Still, the song is fantastic. One of Ozzy's best.

When I listen to this Essential version of RR Rebel I can't hear all the Jake E Lee guitar parts? The guitar parts have obviously been re-recorded most likely due to Sharon's wishes to not have Jake paid or on the record.

In 2002 sharon erased the drum and bass drum tracks from "blizzard of ozz" and "diary of a madman" and had them rerecorded to avoid paying royalties to bob daisley and lee kerslake. The difference in the originals and new recordings are very noticeable.

Well, dunno...piano really opens the ears. Had he studied other instruments (Rhoads), he might of composed something original for the intro to Diary of a Madman. Lee's phrasing, voice leading sense, and pianistic ideas really make him stand out over ending every phrase on the 1st beat of the measure as Crazy Train or Flying High Again (great songs) predictably demonstrate.

I can't tell where your coming from, are you saying Jake wrote Crazy Train and Flying High again, cuz he didn't. And Randy did study classical piano, he was taught at a young age, but moved to guitar. Both of them are great players in their own right, I personally think Randy's better, but Jake has a lot of great stuff, such as his solo from the BATM tour and pretty much everything on the BATM album.
