Kenny g has made a fool of himself in not only the jazz community, by producing the supermarket jazz that is now played in supermarkets, elevators, airports, and porn films. HOWEVER, (!!!!) he is a very good musician, maybe not the "best" (that is a subjective matter), but he can play to a professional standard. I my humble opinion of a fellow sax player, who does not like the kenny g commercial suff at all, I'm sure he's aware of his commercial attitude, why doesn't he play some cool stuff???

not every saxophonist plays the instrument in the EXACT same way, i play with my mouthpiece off the the slight right aswell, (not as extreme as kenny G) and i'm 1st chair at my college, so it doesnt matter where you play to the left, right, or middle, if you sound good, you sound good.

I want to say something. A lot of people said, that there are a lot of better jazz saxophone players, than Kenny. At first - Kenny is not a jazz saxophonist. He is more pop/smooth jazz player. And for the second - in my opinion all ,,jazz masters" on saxophone arent' really so much better than Kenny - they are maybe a lot advenced in playing over chord changes and maybe better using all this ,,jazz harmony", but he isn't shredding stupidly and playing 15874notes per second. He prefers emotions.

So I really know, that jazz musicians are just ,,better" than any other musicians from differents genres. After hearing a lot of jazz saxophonist I found, that they are too fast for me. I've been playing saxophone since 2th of september and I really love the sound of it. I just prefer more ,,emotional" playing in saxophone. Even in jazz.

If I were to judge the winner of this so called "battle" the trumpet had much more interesting things to say. A quarter of Kenny's solo was taken directly from Pick Up the Pieces and the rest could be summed up in quick pentatonic runs. The trumpeter played with the form much more than Kenny G did. Not to dog on Kenny G cause he's worked hard to be where he's at but I have yet to hear him a solo that really speaks to me. Nevertheless, both are good players.

There are many jazz saxaphone players who are much better than Kenny G in improv and tone quality. Most of his "solo songs" are in easy keys and have extremely simple progressions that can be handled by even high school jazz bands. I may be biased a bit but please do your research before posting useless facts.

If you actually play a saxophone, you'd know that some notes have poor tune. An example? if you want a powerfull altissimo note don't play a G sharp, instead try a A like David Sanborn always do. So don't blame Kenny G who plays in G major or in F major. It totally makes sense when you know a little about saxophone.

Many don't even consider that a valid subgenre of jazz, because it doesn't feature any jazz harmonic or rhythmic concepts and dramatically downplays the role of improvisation.
