Looks like a very sweet dog. I bet he likes to sleep. I feel so sorry for them when I see them. Their ears look so long, like they need to be protected from dragging on the ground, and their short legs and long bodies make them appear to be so helpless.

@guitarfuckist They don't all just sit there and "look stupid" Bassetts are wonderful dogs! We've adopted 2 and they are the best friends anyone could have. Yes, they are very lazy but they are smart too..they know exactly what's going on around them...they just think they're in charge :-) Even if you didn't adopt a basset, glad to hear you are adopting another animal, way to give a great animal a second chance.

Beautiful basset! When you have a nice tri-color like that people will want him to breed theirs. Since bassets have a lot of weight 'up-front' you may have to help the female handle that girth. Makes the female happy and Dumbo would be walking around with a big shit-eating grin for days!

@azoraobaer Nah it's just short, stalky and a little bit saggy and droopy. Looks a little fat with its leg stuffed under its stomach as well. A little extra weight isn't much to be concerned with anyway. You want a fat dog, I'll show you what my family does to their dogs. Basically a bunch of people (love them to death) with no self discipline. And therefore no dog discipline.

bassets are some of the smartest dogs out there... my basset is absolutely brilliant .. she was easy to train (she'll do anything for treats) but it is true that they can be stubborn... that nose always tends to lead them to something more interesting... but they're sweet dogs...

Remids me of my beloved Bassett Tally Ho, He died last year unexpected. I never thought I could love a dog or miss a dog as much as I do him. His son Bo had died 5 mos. earlier. seizures. They were a handsome pair, I still have his 'wife' Baby and other son, Chop-Chop.
