  • i miss the old JPSP out in dallas

  • r.i.p

  • Nice tribute!

  • R.I.P Jeff

  • This has to be one of my favorite video parts ever! His skate career would have went through the roof if he would have made it to the late 90's when skating came back. Would like to see some re-issue decks come out.

  • Jeff you were the best, and you totally gave the birdfinger to the 540 craze.

  • Jeff was the greatest, he always skated at the park and asked us to wear gear so the kids would.. Jeff will always be missed

  • I don't think I've seen anyone invert quite like Jeff.

  • he killed himself exactly 11 days after i was born.. RIP jeff

  • the best ever!

  • 'I skate for fun and that's it and if I don't have fun you'll see me quit'. Pretty spooky line given that he sadly went on to commit suicide.

  • I lived in Dallas for 8yrs and i skated at his park all the time. Met him about 5 times tho i was only 9yrs old

  • SUISLIDE not unlike the Phillips 666

  • 0:54 fucking awesome

  • I have never seen this! Man, he ripped. So sad that he took his own life, but it's great that his stuff is still getting out there.

  • hahah that was a crappy ass manual he touched the whole time! but thats how they did it in the day... damn people are soo good now just imagine how good he would of been by now?

  • Don't mess with texas.

  • somehow skin phillips is related? yes no?

  • @livetoskateaz I don't think so.

  • he makes me proud to say that im from texas.now lets us all do what jeff would want us to do shut up and sk8 long live jeff phillilps

  • thumbs up, and so many good comments to read!

  • Jeff Phillips: Master of the Phillips 66, best boneless-ones in a vert ramp, a fellow Texan, and a man that can shread like there was no shreadin'. I just wished that he could have just held on a little bit longer. R.I.P. Jeff. I will be living where you resided! I will skate vert because of you, bro! 01:50 -- now THAT'S an acutal manual... other street skaters do WHEELIES.

  • I met Jeff at Collins St. pool in Arlington around the mid 80's I guess. Jeff was so laid back and talked to you like you had been friends for years. Jeff had so many sick invert variations and skated a pool like no one I'd ever seen. We had some great times at his park and Clown Ramp. Jeff- Eric Nash and I watched Caddy Shack at his apt. two day before he took his life. Jeff was an amazing person- I feel privileged to have known him. I still have a new deck of his- I'd never part with it

  • miss you bro

  • Still have his first board he had for B.B.C.. I loved skating the park, airing from the bowl to the spine scared the shit out of me the first time I did it.

  • im his cousin!!!!!! hes my hero!!!!!!!

  • isnt he dead?

  • yes hes dead unfortunantly he was me and my siblings cousin my grand mothers name is carolin philips and him and my dad were good freinds

  • that signature trick at 2:03 is just too dope! ;)

  • gone, but still influencing.

  • Phillips was one of a kind. I loved his skating. R.I.P.

  • I first met Jeff at Collins Street pool in Arlington, Tx. around 1989 or 1990. Skated his park dozens of times, the bowl was a blast. RIP, Jeff.

  • I herd that Jeff killed himself. If anyone knows the story , I would like to hear it. His BBC street board was the best board I ever had.

  • he went home after a door shift at july alley.he was very depressed..and at like 4 or 5am he took his life with a 357 mag...the impact it had on our scene was major...to say tha least...we all freaked out for like 2yrs....the park remained open till like 97'cuz some rollerblading hippie bought it....god he was a creep...lol...(the rollerblader)ofcoarse...R.I.P. Jeff we all miss ya....

  • @themainus Actually, I was around jeff the final days and he was at his parents house on Christmas eve and had a little too much burbon, was depressed about his lifelong companion " alice " leaving him and business problems and took his life after getting home that evening. Me and my brother found jeff the next day. Miss you brotha.

  • First pro I ever met and got to skate with. He ripped the Clown/Blue ramp. Came across his obit from the newspaper the other day and just really sucks he took his life.

  • i miss this park & that bowl

  • i love the fact that jon comer carried on the "skate for fun" motto....and there is not enough phillips footy on the net.....look old timers, i know you all are holding out on old home movies, lets get some of them things uploaded. you know who you are!

  • i have some footage from back then but its on a vhs tape...and most of us there used that motto, but we also would skate like we were at war...lol straight up attacking it at all times...

  • It's too bad he died. If he could have just held on a few more years vert came back and he would have been in the spotlight once again. The early 90's were like the dark ages of skateboarding.

  • "i skate for fun and thats it, and if i dont have fun you'll see me quit"

    words to live by man

  • RIP....vert legend...

  • Jeff not only skated the ramp he attacked and destroyed any ramp he rode. he was amzing. people forget he won 2 or 3 of those big contests back in the day against Tony and Christain.

I still love the footage of him in SkateVisions, some of the best.

"Hey Jeff, I know were the killer ramp is! follow us" In fact. I think I'll post that scene.

  • Yep, that was the Jeff Pillips park. The place was great, I remember skating with Jeff once on the small ramp up at the front of the building.

  • The bowl was a blast to air out of and onto the spine. Had a buddy have one of his front wheels come off while riding the bowl, funny shit!

  • what a great skater...

is that at the jeff phillips skatepark?

  • Jeff Phillips was a really amazing skater back then RIP.

  • Damn, I've never seen this video. That has to be the most amazing display of raw skill on either mini ramp or vert I've ever seen.

  • that guy is amazing i look up to him

  • Those ramps sure did seem bigger when you were a 13 year old punk kid riding the bus to the park after begging for money to pay entry during your bus transition in downtown Dallas!

Jeff is still to this day my favorite skater. Actually have a brand new BBC devil man boards on my wall, never even had grip tape installed....

    RIP

  • LOL... I was thinking the same thing.

When he transferred from the bowl to the spine I can remember that being a pretty freakin big gap and the spine being bigger than that.

I think it is the lens they used.

  • best vert skater to ever come out of texas.. rip jeff

  • Speedfreaks is one of my all time favorite videos. R.I.P. Jeff Phillips. His park ruled. When I was a kid, I went to the Alamo for a school field trip, and Jeff Phillips was there with his girlfriend. He was cool and gave me his autograph.

  • thats so sad! why did he take his own life? :(

  • jeff was a great skater. i still have several of his boards. how did he pass away?

  • Sadly it was suicide.

  • @Don1970 Rumor has it that it was an accident. He liked to play with his guns.

  • shot himself xmas 1993

  • @Don1970 why?

  • i miss the jp sk8 park and its been 10yrs since they closed id do anything to sk8 there 1 more time r i p jp

  • 189 hits where my texas skaters at shut the fuck up and skate long live jp

  • Wow, thanks for posting. One of the best and coolest dudes skateboarding has ever had. Good to see some footage of the old park.

  • this has always been up there with my favourite sections ever

  • this guy won some of the biggest vert competitions agains hawk and hosoi without doing a 540's. that's amazing!
