Sean Jones is a great player and world class player, but please, listen to some more music and especially more trumpet music before you start throwing around phrases like "worlds best trumpet player".
He is not nearly one of the greatest trumpet players of all time. Not to discredit his playing mind cause he's very good, but there is much better out there.
@heypepper Hey Pepper!!! Now I understand how you got to be first trumpet in your high school marching band! But Kissing the ass of the director is only exciting for the director!! Please be like the rest of us; USE your ears and if your soul resonates let the roars of joy harmonize with the rest of us!!! sincerely DrB
@DrFBM Wow, I did use my ears. I don't think my comment was an insult either. Sean Jones is a decent trumpet player. But to put him in the classification of one of the greatest (or the greatest)trumpet player of all times is highly pretentious. He doesn't hold a candle to guys like Dizzy, or Sergei Nakarajakov, or Bud Herseth, or Phil Smith, or James Morrison, or the list goes on and on. I'm glad you like his playing, I do too, but I was just trying to state fact.
@heypepper Well maybe if we slow down and feel the Miles Davis like influence of emoting and bending one's performance for the audience tofully know the moment, you too can unlock yourself from an analytical four dimensional universe!
hahahaha...this guy is a wannabee...he is not even close to the greatest trumpet player ever......rofl...I can`t believe the stoopidity of some people!@!
And what for god is this? "Who cares about mistakes"? Who cares about He play like a nothing?! What is this actually? What kind of music? What kind of player? Shit? What? Wynton have it in band?! Who is stupid here?
@ramonrebersak You Ramon....are unquestionably a questionable type guy who loves to question! But is there an answer to how beautiful music can be? sincerely Dr B
@ramonrebersak What is so amazing about grace is when we messed up in life God forgave us when we didn't deserve to be forgiven...There is no question in any ones mind that could Sean play A.G.with out a mistake for YOUR listening pleasure... What this clip does for me? It lets me know as a trumpet player/ worshiper of God and human being is I can move on with my life with all the MISTAKES I have made and be the best ME I was created to be... to me Sean is a inspired minstrel.
@BDathorn Amen, Ramon!! Sean and your comment helps us all be in the now. And the next time you hear God....try not to let your mind get in your way! So please open your eyes and ears to hear and feel the other superb contributions that Sean has on our site. Prayer is answered in many ways!!
Shucks! Did I forget again? But maybe then they'll take me back to the home planet somewhere in the tenth dimension.. Please.. no I don't want to miss this great jazz my friends are creating!!!
PPGAddict is probably some middle aged guy that played trumpet in high school 70 years ago and thinks that makes him an informed critic. "Broken pitches" and "poor support" are idioms of jazz trumpet playing. He is playing a hymn that has become an African American spritual, not the Haydn trumpet concerto.
I just laugh at these fools who make music into a competition. Not every piece is a demonstration of technical prowess. Most of the time, people who feel weak and inadequate in everything else use their ability on an instrument to fulfill that emptiness, not as a vehicle for expression.
Holy Freudian diagnostic entanglement.....ah, but if the melodic improvisation entangles us enough to have us fall into a tenth dimensional abyss where, where we are influenced to spread wings we never knew we had. Sean helps all my troubles exist in the past (a least while I'm listening to his creations)!
Dear PPGAddict,, After you buy one of Mr Jones CDs, I suggest you throw on your tape recorder as you try to imitate his expressions on your horn; If that doesn't work ... hearing aids are available even at Walmart! sincerely DrFBM
And also Dr...........you do not imitate expressions you create them. I am saying that there are many parts that arer not expressions but rather poor support and broken pitches that are very subpar in this performance.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Hell I played better than this in junior high and his range is weak as crap very airish and sharp. I can name 5 female trumpet players that are better by far.
Please do not get me wrong...........I love Sean Jones music he is a wonderful talent. But I am saying this was awful way below his talent level i think he would agree.
You obviously don't know Sean at all! He is one of the greatest trumpet players of all time. You are a foolish music critic as well. Do you realize he has played lead trumpet with two of the greatest bands of our time? I bet your "friends" can't say they have been working for Harry Connick Jr. and Wynton's band at Lincoln center. You had better check out some more cuts of Sean before you spout off again making ridiculous comments like this!
But wasn't it said he is the" worlds best player"? Miles Davis was an amazing musician, but not an amazing player. We have players in England who are better players than that who do it for free. A wonderful musician he maybe, I dont know, I haven't heard enough of him, but the best trumpet player? not in a million years, sorry about that!! To the untrained ear that sounds like a bit of jazzin' around amazing grace with a few splatted notes thrown in for that miles effect!!
Dear Ms brass12 neck, Listen to a performance with more than just your ear and your mind's analytical probing and feel what the musician is communicating to the all of you; that you are. Then after listening to more of Sean's performances you can return and erase the your silly comments. So breath deep, as always, DrFBM
Yes he is a good player obviously, but the best??? Id expect the best trumpet player not to miss a note, I would say he is good, but he is no wynton, or sergie or wayne Bergaron, or Martin Winter or Harken Harkenberger etc etc etc. Good..yes...the best..not in a million years!!!
yall are all judging this guys playing off of this one recording..simply type in sean jones or go to my page and look at my playlist of his stuff. Dude is the best out right now..hands down. Even charlie parker has recordings of himself getting lost in chord changes...and even freddie has recordings of himself missing notes.but just like sean did turning that mistake into music..im glad he made a mistake..lets me know he's human lol..but I agree w/ LadyMiles08, look up "Transitions" then talk
I say to all haters get the Search With In and listen to "Transitions" transcribe that and then put it on YouTube. The man is like only 31. Jazz trumpet is a journey that goes not to the swiftest but the one who endures. Give the young man sometime he'll learn what grace is, lol.
Happy Bday. May God's favor & grace forever shine upon inspite of human failures. For his strength is made perfect in weakness. May always serve only the one who has the power to say 2 THE STORM peace b still. For whom He has set free is truly free indeed.Ashe.
I just received an amazing prayer from my trumpet mentor. Apparently by the awesome grace of God after years of being dormant I am emerging even better than bfore. I love the Lord & he heard my cry & pitied every groan. He has never let righteous b forsaken. His strength has been made perfect in my weakness so I KNOW grace is amazing do any other commentors ? Or r u just hearing these notes instead of living them ?
Beautifully stated Lady Miles...and always remember control of a trumpet is control of one's breath...without which there's no resonance....and Sean, like myself, feels and knows that our ultimate resonance and breaths started and are a reflex action of God's will.....Dr B reminding us what We see...
If anyone does talk to Mr. Jones please tell him Lady Miles said
Romans 12:18 "If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone." Monsgoose I am guessing you are not aware about what this song is about. If Mr. Jones wanted to do a recorded version of this song I am sure it would be great. But this is a moment of worship not about anyone else. I know Mr. Jones and he is man of worship. Though I am not sure who he worships all the time, LOL.
And the aliveness of the human nowness of Sean's expressiveness will keep opening your ears the more you listen to more of his creations!!!! Sincerely......
You guys may also want to read 2 Samuel 6 about the David's first wife Michal who mocked him for dancing before the Lord. If I was this trumpet player and someone criticized my playing when I was simply worshiping I would say like David did in verse 21-22: "I will celebrate before the LORD. I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes." For it is better to be a fool in the house of the Lord than play wisely in the house of the wicked.
You know I was worshiping on my trumpet today and God rebuked me for having a Micah spirit. When a man worships we shouldn't analyze it because it is not about us it is about him and his God.Worship is not a performance it is alifestyle. Those that worship him must worship him in spirit and truth.
2 Corinthians 12:9: "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me.
Opening one's ears a little can inspire one to open their mind in the direction that your soul is dragging you from your earthly connections...so again I can only thank Sean for reminding me to resonate to those higher vibrations and dreams of the future...
If your going to call someone the world's greatest trumpet, at least provide a video that sounds better than what I can do. I lost count of all the clammed notes. He is a great trumpet player, but this is not a great video.
LadyMiles I trust lips much more than your cerebral comments and remind you that improvisational paths and God remind us that there are no such things as mistakes. Especially when you play it twice to see what doorway you have been "inspired" to open. Or sometimes fall through to discover the wings you must spread (the ones you didn't know were there)! sincerely, DrFBM
Who are you DrFBM ? You make me laugh. You sweat Sean Jones like you know him personally or something. Yes brother can connect to God, but as a trumpet player his sound isn't focused at times. When the Holy Spirit is truly on you, you make no mistakes. Ask Kirk Franklin, ROFL.
There were a few hundred people in the audience and as you can tell from the video you could hear a pin drop..We know that Sean knows how to connect to our essence!
Hes not near the best he may connect to god, but you should check Allen Vizzutti. honestly i dont see what u see in him hes it takes him like over 5 minutes to play amazing grace cuz he constantly stops to look up I mean i know its peaceful and all but honestly it cuts the song like every 5 seconds and just gets old.
K you can't compare Allen With Sean there two totally different people, obviously your not a jazz listener or can't appreciate this music. Ya it takes him 5 minutes to play it but it does not get old its brilliant. Don't get me wrong Allen Vizzutti is an amazing trumpet player but not when it comes to jazz. The pauses he makes are not just to look up its musical pauses this is gospel music, get out and listen to more jazz other than Allen Vizzutti
that was pretty foolish of you to say its not just about gospel but jazz and even music in general is about feeling it. A good player can play.. but a GREAT player can play and have the audience know exactly how he's feeling while playing. Its just like literature, there's a tone and a mood. please think before you speak.
check out some sean jones albums and i'm sure your attitude will change. If not..you must be deaf lol
@DrFBM Man, what kind of Doctor You are? Also what kind of human You are? You say that I must to hear God from this? Man, better drink something and turn off Your Playstation and We can talk in the morning of God or whatever, but, please let this out of God. This is nothing. Gospel? lol Man, take some search on internet if You not hear what gospel is
So who is your favorite living trumpet player who is better than Sean???

I never saw a trumpet player connect to God and the audience so well.
