But still he ko'd Foreman who regained the title himself so many years later. Ali was undoubtedly the greatest. There's never been a sportsman like him. He was greater than sport, an inspiration for so many millions worldwide.

I agree with most of what you said. Obviously at one time Ali was the worlds greatest. My comment was a response to mk00y1 rediculous comment that that Wepner was a poor excuse for a boxer and shouldn't be in the same ring with Ali. Typically if someone didn't belong in the same ring with Ali, they didn't last more then a round or two.

Surely you'll agree that while Ali was obviously the superior fighter, Wepner held his own and deserved a shot.

I wouldnt exactly call this a good performance. Ali was heavier than he was against Foreman and didnt take Wepner seriously. Ali had a few more good performances after this Wepner fight-like the last Frazier fight, maybe the last Norton fight, his fight against Earnie Shavers, and his last fight against Leon Spinks.
