I think it's both. I mean , everybody's beauty standards are very likely to be somewhat influenced by what the media says, and the media do indeed tend to picture lightskin men as more attractive. I don't think you can say "this is just my preference", preferences are always based on something, and in this case you could have been influenced by the media, by your family, friends,...many things.

Both. Probably. But saying that, the media tends to only show "black" people who are lighter skinned or mixed. If you said you'd never date a dark skinned guy, however then it might suggest brainwashing. The same applies for any black guys with similar predelictions. I personally disagree that light skinned women look more feminine because of their fair tone. To these eyes, very dark skinned black women are sexy as hell. LOL what? I don't hate myself, I Love everything about being black. I have pride in myself and people. Yes, I ddo have a preference for lighter skin guys, but not always. The guys I dated and the guy I like now are all Brown/Dark skinned. So what are you talking about? I have ages yet to grow and reflect my actions lol There's still time for me to be "enlightened".

its because u live in the u.k.
the dark skin men in the u.s. look and carry themselves a lot different. u come to LA or new york u wouldn't know what black man you'll have a preference for because you'll be attracted to dark skin guys just as much as light. I'm a dark skin afro american man and have never had a issue with women passing me up for lighter men. me along with all of my dark skin male friends....

what has me living inthe UK have to do with anything? There's plenty of good looking dark skinned men here. I come across them EVERY day. I'm attracted to EVERY shade of black people, I just noticed i lean towards light skinned men at times. All the boys i have dated u would consider dark/brown skinned. Me living in the UK has nothing to do with my preference.

I went to this spanish carnival and i saw many very good looking hispanic guys, but they're not really my preference unless they have african ancestry like Puerto Ricans, Cubans (yum!!!) and Brazilians.

Lol Nah I'd never say that. My preference is changing again anyway, cos I'm growing more and more attracted to dark skinned men, so it was either a phase, or i simply wasn't attracted to the dark skinned men in my area lol. I'm not biased though. The guys that i told to on a more intimate level were both dark skinned.

I thought I was the only one. I don't think darker-skinned guys are unattractive, but I'm a sucker for lighter-skinned guys like Drake, Michael Ealy and so on. Just how most men have a preference for bigger breasts, but still find smaller ones okay.

just to add black ppl make all shades of children you can be dark light and make either dark or light babies i use myself as an example im light skin as u can see, but my dad is dark skin my moms is brown skin from Caribbean...if u let the media influence ur preference ur ignorant especially as a black. u said dark skin men are more masculent than lightskinmen so what if the media portarys it, it also portrays that homosexuality is OK..

I didn't say they were, I said the MEDIA says so and many women who date dark skinned men say they look more masculine, but if you listen to my video again, you will hear where i disagreed with that and say how I found light skinned men to be masculine. I know black people come in all shades and i don't see where i'm going wrong in my videos.

Sorry i couldn't read half tour comment, but its my own personal preference. I don't give a DAMN if a black man wanted to have sex with me, i'd just be another conquest for them since thats all they look for anyway.

I honestly prefer lighter skinned or non blacks, mostly white or Indian or Asian. That's just me. I don't find black men attractive. I may find some handsome and well put together black males here and there, but I'd never have sex with them. I think It's just gross.
Mixed people are incredibly beautiful to me. I love the combination of different races to create a totally unique individual.
