  • This is what i was looking for! Thank you :)

  • OMG .. I WANT this song .. where can I get it

  • absolutely ,love it

  • Thanks for uploading this. I just watched this episode and wanted to save it just so I can view this clip again in the future. It's really quite beautiful. The passion really comes through.

  • This is sheer beauty. I've always liked this piece from the moment I heard it in The Inner Light; it's simple, but elegant in it's simplicity.

Anyone who can't or won't appreciate this kind of music has no heart and is a supreme example of what is wrong with the human race.

  • Go ahead Picard, take what is yours!

  • This is my favorite tv show! TNG shows don't age. And to all the people that hate this, just don't watch it.

  • this show was before i was born but i love it none the less. it makes me sad to know that i watch a show that was popular 20 years ago. but then again it is a timeless series.

  • What a beautiful scene. I remember it from 1993.

  • This was always my favorite episode,Jean Luc fell in love, the kiss was given with such passion. Nella was an awesome lady

  • I would love to put the wood to this milf.

  • This is my favorite star trek episode of all time because of this scene. Thank you so much for uploading it!

  • i love it

  • The song was really well done, but this whole clip gets 5 stars simply for the reaction of the engine room crew...

  • Fantastic! I somehow have missed this episode, though I certainly know THE INNER LIGHT. Thanks for sharing.

  • anyone know what the tune is ?

  • @Machammerballs

    then dont watch it dickhead

  • In my duet with this MILF it would not be me playing my flute.

  • @Machammerballs

You're probably the only one on the planet who thinks that, so buzz off and get a freakin' life, you stupid moron.

  • And I suppose you wrote the rule book on what should and shouldn't be be in a science fiction series?

I'd like to know the rule which says "Romance and sci-fi don't mix." Anyone????

  • @Machammerballs We get it. Your brain resides in your testicles. Just leave the advanced stuff to humans, rabbit.

  • @Machammerballs

Quick, everyone flame him for his opinions! That will take care of things here.

  • @Charmolution Fag.

  • Such a beautiful melody.

  • notice that at the start her piano was on the ground and after picard plays her piano is on a stand

  • You know this segment of Lessons stood out as one of the most remembered moments in TNG for me. My late grandmother got me into TNG at a very young age, and I've loved it ever since. It's hard to believe that these episodes were all shot so long ago. TNG will live on forever :-).

  • man they shoulda brought her character back...at least for a cameo or something, they were perfect together

  • They did that knowing that 17 years later you would ask that question. :)

  • The keys hit by Darren is half a step lower than the actual note being played. Why is that?

  • Because she's playing the "background" notes for the song. Usually, for the background music, the background is played just a half-step lower or higher than the actual notes. If you notice in most music.. there's dual-layers of music, the background and the actual notes either sung or played up front.

  • so pretty...someone should load this up on itunes

  • TNG was made 20 years ago. It's correct.

    But:

TNG is actually (for us) like a eternal fresh show.

More exactly. TNG is a window to the future. So It's no a "old" TV show.

  • As much as I love TNG, one thing that shows how old it is, is the fact that a councillor is involved with Battle decisions! OR the moment the ship gets into battle "Red Alert...senior staff, lets have a conference on this in the conference room!"

  • You are wrong.

Troy is not a simple councillor. She can advise what are sensing the other minds.

Thats fantastic and futurist. TNG is not old. We are.

  • Blimey, it sounds so strange when you think this was actually 20 years ago. Time has not ravaged this show at all, it remains as fresh and poignant now as it was then. I love it!

  • @tjf4375 yes I was thinking just the same! usually sf shows/movies look dated pretty fast but TNG's looks and characters still feel fresh

  • Im a veteran sailor, and listening to this gets to me everytime.

  • Oh and to top it off, video error, she rolls out the keyboard but then while she is playing it is placed on top of a rack. lololol

  • There aren't nearly enough keys on that keyboard thing to play the Moonlight Sonata.

Why don't they just use the holodeck to get peferct tone/acoustic sound?

She would have to be an amazing musician to pick out the chords CORRECTLY Picard was playing on his flute-like instrument.

She isn't even using proper form to play a piano/keyboard/instrument with keys.

So many errors... but a good episode nontheless lol.

  • also, the scene was filmed in a studio- the Enterprise wasn't even a real space ship :-)

you're right about it being a good episode though

  • She wanted a real atmosphere for the love. The holodeck is negative for this.

  • Not so. It's a standard piano keyboard. Just a different one. It's an electronic flat panel keyboard. Though, at that time, there were only a few of those kinds of pianos created. But, it's "real." In the recent several years, they've come out with flat panel "key-touch" pianos. Standard piano keyboards, only on a compact scale.

  • they usually lack toucvh sensitivity. they ever sound as lovely as this one

  • So amazingly beautiful, especially if you're high.

And yes TNG is still good, and you really get to KNOW some of the characters that are on the show. Its too bad its not continuing

  • I love it. It's great how episodes will refer to past episodes without further explanation. Nice touch! (oooh TNG still looks good 20 years later)

  • yeah it really does still look good... this could be a show that is on the air right now

  • Has it really been 20 years already? Oh my

  • Mmm. Picard is so sexy.

  • Thanks Darknuts!

  • it's "Moonlight Sonata" from Beethoven

  • Can anyone tell me what the piece of music is called that she plays on the keyboard before the duet, i know its famous.

  • Their not Nerds, they may be Geeks but not Nerds.

  • Search for Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata here on YouTube, astrum89 :)

  • Oops, just saw that the question has been answered a year ago, sorry...

  • Perhaps the most subtle and moving part of the whole TNG series and also one of the great pieces of movie making. A brilliant piece of work. My hat goes off to the nerdz who made this possible.

  • beutiful song

  • It's just as simple as that: Beautiful!

  • love this episode and the inner ligth as well

  • this makes me cry im sorry

  • Beautiful music!!

I just watched this episode tonight and now that tune is stuck in my head.

  • he is good! OMG! then he glares at her. lol! VERY NICE!

then data comes on lol. do they get dirty? just curious.

  • this happens to be my favorite song the inner light is my fav episode!!!!

  • This may be the most romantic scene in all of TNG.

  • Indeed!

  • this star trek was before star trek voyager right?

  • well there is DS9 in between, although voyager and DS9 did run at the same time for around 5 years

  • And Enterprise... which i hated at first, but the moment i had watched 3 episodes... i just loved it. Strange.

  • Lukewarm episode, but this one scene more than made up for it.

As far as I'm concerned, this is the best work that Jay Chattaway did on any of the Star Trek shows he worked on.

  • Incidentally Wendy Hughes is one of the few Australian voices I ever recall hearing on Star Trek! Subsequently this ep got a fair bit of press in Aus, in spite of TNG's cult status here.

  • is there any written music for this sad song???

  • The Solo that Picards plays its like someone is calling you home . Brings tears to my eyes

  • Is there any chance you can upload the "Frere Jacques" rehearsal one?

  • One of the best episodes. Isn't "Inner Light" the name of the episode as well?

  • No the name of the episode is lessons. The inner light is another episode. I love this episode.

  • "The Inner Light" is the ep where this tune originates - Picard (in his other lifetime) learned to play the flute.

  • This I think was really emotional because the song that Picard plays to him it is one to be never shared with anybody, but he plays it for her and for the first time we see the Captain showing his emotions.

  • Just saw this ep about a week ago. I'm so jealous of her piano! :)

Beautiful music... I miss this show. :( They need to make a new Star Trek series! Haha.

  • How did the rollup piano get on the stand..?

  • I never noticed that until you pointed it out. lol.

  • It's the 24th century! Use your imagination, lol!

  • This is my favorite scene from Star Trek:TNG, I had this memorized on the piano when I was younger, and also saxophone. It is a very catchy beautiful tune. :)

  • Who Sings This Song I Want it So BAd

  • The tune that they are playing is called the Skye Boat Song. It is an old Scottish song.

  • No, the song they are playing is called "Inner Light." The first four notes are the same is all.

  • And when she plays alone?? this short fragment.whot is ?

  • it is called the moonlight sonata thats the name of the song she is playing when she is playing alone

  • Just saw this epîsode on DVD.

    Amazing beautifull !

  • Thank you so much i love it!!!!!

  • KolinahrStudent...

You may like the video I will be posting next.

  • Thanks for putting this up! :D I wish they had done more scenes with the Ressikan flute and piano in this ep - and in the series!
