@Againya23 If you were to broadcast an alert that wasn't true such as a tornado warning, yes. That would be inducing panic. This video is of a weekly test, which is required by all broadcast stations.

@rockandrollwithrage yes, i know it was a required weekly test, but, why the heck would you do it interupting a song and scare the shataki out of your listeners when you can do it after the song and say "The following is a required weekly test of the emergency alert system...."

@coffeeandsugar20 Nope, wish I did but it cost too much. I just use my endec for relaying alerts, rather than originating them, except for the weekly tests

@coffeeandsugar20 I have the endecset software for building templates, syncing the time, but it can't originate alerts. There is software out there capable of that, but I havn't played around with it much.

is it possible to connect the SAGE decoder/encoder with desktop computer, like Mac Pro? I am thinking about writing an iPhone app that lets user control the EAS encoder remotely.

@alchemistmuffin yes, there is a 9-pin connector on the front. Use a null modem cable.  I have mine connected to my desktop, but it's windows xp

Before anyone asks, the reason why you hear an echo on the EAS header and EOM is because of a slight delay in the audio processing on the computer. The EAS message plays back through the internal speaker on the Sage unit about a half second before it's heard through the main speakers which is tuned to the stations frequency.

@coffeeandsugar20 This is the same SAGE Endec unit thats in my other vid. Thomason Broadband Supply is the company. Google thomasonbbs Sage Endec and you will find it. I would post the link but youtube won't let it go through. I paid $450 for mine and recieved it in like-new condition.

@coffeeandsugar20 no, it doesn't generate a voice, you would have to use the mic or a prerecorded msg to originate an alert. Most alert audio is relayed from the local primarys and WX radio anyway.
