-= Whew! =- I was getting worried. I thought Stan did this hand-flapping thing behind his ear at the chorus. But when he didn't do it the first time, I got worried (because I've been following suit for 30 years), but then he did it at 3:17 and 3:43 and finally, at 4:28!!
Stan is a great singer and so is Andy, I don't get the morons who go "It was never the same" don't you get it ? Andy Prieboy is in Stan's class, and believe you me it's a high one
@xaccrocheur the other musicians were great and unique, but I think it was Stans bizarre sensibilities and style that really really sent this group over the edge and made them so amazing. It was the total mix.
I just found these posts It's awsome to see Stan the man and the original WOV , I hate to sound old but kids these days don't know what they missed, I stiil have dark continent on cassette, grandmas house on vinyl, and call of the west on cd.
Ah [contentment] well...I just bought a Numark PT-01 portable usb turntable. The album that I have purchased several months ago, Wall Of Voodoo 'Dark Continent', is now playing. Ah, yeah [contentment] : )
thank you for posting a great memory for me....used to see them play locally in 1981 and it was wonderful to see that my memory of their live show served me well....they were brilliant.
Stan Ridgway made WOV for me. He was totally in charge and is still a great songwriter and performer even now. After he left it was never the same at all. This was the real WOV. This is great stuff from the original band. Thanks for posting.
@dmkext youth is overrated seriously. i hate when people say they hate getting old. you can do just as much when your old and more, then when you young. its just the stupid image that western culture personifies to appear "sacred." they say "ohh im not energetic as i used to be" blah, blah, blah, excuses. look at Jello Biafra. he's over 50 and he's still punk as hell. a die hard to the end. that's the kind of person to live up to.

I saw them once at the Whiskey and again up north somewhere. Great live, tight and dramatic.

I think this is the BEST song on Dark Continent. But in the end, all of the work on Dark Continent was really great!

The first time I'd heard of Wall Of Voodoo was when they opened The Daze Of Future Past Festival at Leeds Queen's Hall in 1982 (or was it 81?).
They were so modest yet so unbelievably brilliant.
