this is a very real portrayal of the story...instead of spoiled brats, iris and ruth are just regular girls in irregular circumstances. the stepmother is a witch but reforms later. and clara has real fears but they're unfounded; she's spoiled and needs to get over it. and does. Soo...it's a story of bad becoming good and good becoming better.
claras poor dad being so easily tricked by that wretched woman, and clara is a total bitch, but i guess it makes sense cuz of how she has grown up and iris is very pretty, i think the whole ordeal with the painting had to do with something like unrealistic percetption of oneself.

When you look at Cinderella from each different character's POV, it can become quite controversial. Each have their own reasons for the way they act. I believe that if you keep an open mind, you can be neutral between each character. Everyone has a point of view, say yours and leave it at that.
I think Iris is beautiful and i don't understand why everyone says she's so ugly! Personally i don't think Clara is drop dead gergous at all and her attitude just makes her an ugly spoilt bitch.
Personally i think everyone is beauitful in their own right and if you look beyond the obvious you might be able to see it.
This is a good movie, but I have to say that, although this is supposed to be the other side of the story of Cinderella, it doesn't in the least resemble it.

To say NOTHING of the interpretations of each person who hears it. Hence how fairy tales came to be in the first place.

I'm confused.. in part two, Clara sounded like she -did- want to be painted, and her father sounded like he -didn't- want her to be painted, how did it get so turned around?

I agree completely, I thought the novel had more of a somber undertone especially at the beginning to the novel when they're fleeing England, but at the opening of this movie the music is all happy-go-lucky to the point you expect to see a couple of whistling cartoon birds fly into the scene; it's Disney what are you going to do?

But also remember that the entire book was told through Iris's point of view and that it isn't until the epilogue that the last of mysteries are unraveled. Recall that the epilogue is told through Ruth, who explains that she doesn't agree with the way that Iris portrayed her; perhaps the director used this as artistic license to do his/her own thing with the interpretation of the book.
No her hair is pretty according to the fashion and she has well proportioned symmetrical features. But iris has the chrismatic air her beauty grows with time, and her lack of beauty makes her look at people closely, giving her greater insight. while clara's beauty (at the moment) is worth only a stare.
But we have to remember she was kidnapped and because of spoiled.
It's funny, Clara and Iris both have classically pretty features, but when each of them open their mouth to speak, Clara turns ugly, and Iris becomes even more beautiful.
@Saikadelic No, but it wasn't meant to. Her being painted that way brought out the flowers more which the artist and the merchant were trying to achieve. The merchant is trying to sell his flower and has a great deal of his capital bound up in it. The paintings are advertsing tools. I'm not sure why Iris's mother keeps putting her down and making her believe it. Sad for a parent to do. Maybe she just doesn't want a spoiled girl on her hands like Clara. Iris is pretty and intelligent.

I think out of all the characters they sort of messed up here, Margarethe is the worst in the movie. They did not get her right at all! Which I hate because she was my fav in it. She was cruel yes, but she was well spoken and knew how to survive. I liked how she was given more of a character than the 'cruel witch' in Cinderella. This version of her is more like the disney one.
Ya, she had plastic surgery that kinda made her whole face look wierd. I think she is still really pretty, but I think she would be even prettier if she didn't get surgery. She's my #1 fav... EVER!!! Haha! :D
Watching this, I've just sort of realised how brutally honest all of Gregory Maguire's characters were. I mean, here, Master Schoenmacker openly says that it would be strange for Casper and Iris to come together, and in Wicked Frex openly admits that he prefered Nessarose to Elphaba. I just love these characters :P

Clara´s eyes are rather ugly if you ask me. Iris face is far more luminous and her eyes are magnificent... plus she is is much more clever!

Clara is no prettier than Iris. I think they're on the same level lookswise. Plus, Clara's frizzy curls are annoying

No her hair is pretty according to the fashion and she has well proportioned symmetrical features. But iris has the chrismatic air her beauty grows with time, and her lack of beauty makes her look at people closely, giving her greater insight. while clara's beauty (at the moment) is worth only a stare.
But we have to remember she was kidnapped and because of spoiled.

tbh out of the two, clara is more stereo typically beautiful.... but i think Iris has nicer, softer features. :)

It's funny, Clara and Iris both have classically pretty features, but when each of them open their mouth to speak, Clara turns ugly, and Iris becomes even more beautiful.

@Saikadelic No, but it wasn't meant to. Her being painted that way brought out the flowers more which the artist and the merchant were trying to achieve. The merchant is trying to sell his flower and has a great deal of his capital bound up in it. The paintings are advertsing tools. I'm not sure why Iris's mother keeps putting her down and making her believe it. Sad for a parent to do. Maybe she just doesn't want a spoiled girl on her hands like Clara. Iris is pretty and intelligent.

I think out of all the characters they sort of messed up here, Margarethe is the worst in the movie. They did not get her right at all! Which I hate because she was my fav in it. She was cruel yes, but she was well spoken and knew how to survive. I liked how she was given more of a character than the 'cruel witch' in Cinderella. This version of her is more like the disney one.

Ya, she had plastic surgery that kinda made her whole face look wierd. I think she is still really pretty, but I think she would be even prettier if she didn't get surgery. She's my #1 fav... EVER!!! Haha! :D

Watching this, I've just sort of realised how brutally honest all of Gregory Maguire's characters were. I mean, here, Master Schoenmacker openly says that it would be strange for Casper and Iris to come together, and in Wicked Frex openly admits that he prefered Nessarose to Elphaba. I just love these characters :P
