@thatniggbeme7 Correct exposure and focus are obviously essential! Under exposed it will be dull and over exposed washed out. Using a shaloow depth of field will also pop out things in focus and others out of focus. But if you have After effects the exposure control loves the Canon 550D footage, messing with that helps a lot! Then Crushing your blacks and taking care of the colour tops it off. I have a set of nd grad filters now and would reccomend them for avoiding blowing out the sky.
if it was filmed by the 550d then i doubt that you can manually adjust the aperture in movie mode. And especially in this daylight shooting, the cameras would possibly set the aperture to f22. Unless you use a tape to tweak the lens, then the aperture stays in f1.8
@martijnisdeshit Why would I do that when I am testing a new lens? You are missing the point! It was not a lesson in what lens you should use for a given asituation it was simply a test of a lens. I am well aware of what situations to use lenses, but in each situation of testing a lens you have to simply...use it at any of its aperture's. The title of the video is saying a 50mm 1.8 lens was used, not that it was all shot at a aperture of 1.8
@NHBEY39 when you spin the AV in video mode (with the 550d) it doesnt adjust the aperture for the filming, What it does is tunning the aperture for the shooting mode. Because you still can shoot stills whilst filming so this is its purpose.
@AyzKeys I know that! Never said otherwise. you set the aperture BEFORE you start recording, but in order to change the aperture you have to hold down the AV button and spin the dial.
@VidPro95 I always do any corrections in After effects and render them out at Quicktime Photo jpeg(speedy workflow), edit those clips in PP and render out the final video as WMV HD 23.976. Works a treat everytime for me.
@StarWars1FanShow Dont give up! when i first switched from camcorders to DSLRS i was like wtf?. I would advise getting a loupe of somekind to always check your focus! Just experiment and keep at it.
I'm having trouble uploading my footage from the 550 d up on youtube. Maybe you can help. I use premeire pro. It won't upload in hd. Maybe im exprting it in the wrong format...?
@RielWoodBoards What version of P Pro do you have? CS5 has a "H.264 for youtube codec" that works well. I have always rendered my vids out as Windows media file 720p or 1080 and that is the file format of all my videos and works perfectly and looks exacly the same as shot. For workflow i normally correct and trim in AE and then render those out as QT jpeg for editing together in PP, that has always worked for me without a glitch and retained the quality
Great video, Buying the 1.8 tomorrow for my 550D. Good choice of song as well :)

@SkyFortStudios It is def the 1.8! I do now own the Canon 50mm 1.4and sometimes feel I got better results with the 1.8 used here.

@martijnisdeshit You do understand that the 50mm 1.8 does not have a fixed aperture???
NHBEY39 1 year ago
@NHBEY39 yeah but if you use wide apertures, then you could better use your 18-55

DutchinKorea 1 year ago
@DutchinKorea I only ever use the Exposure and curves adjustment in After effects. The footage responds amzingly well to the exposure in AE.
