  • What kind of cable stake is that

  • @16bigbass A Berkshire HD, I've since switched over to wolf fang anchors.

  • Good video's!!!! What do you use for trap protection? I still use wax but I am thinking about to use speed dip mixed with coleman fuel.

  • Would a number 3 Bridger be too hard on greys and reds?

  • @AwayFromItAllOutDoor not too bad on reds IF they are laminated inside and outside, but way too much on greys. If your only targeting reds and greys I'd go with a 1.5 or 1.75.

  • @blakcanis how your season doing man i had a great season caught 8 coons 3 coyotes 2 greys and one red and a bunch of possums.

  • HiDuane. Is a number 2 duke to small for coyotes or would you reccommend something different. Great video I have your basic coyote one.

  • @Gonzo3780 Thanks. A #2 Duke will work,I like #3s with the Laminations. Alot depends on what your state regs are for jaw spread.

  • How important is sent with trapping coyotes I've heard everything from u gotta boil everything and spray down. And I've hear some say it don't matter cuz they still know u were there. Which is true

  • @pcountyredneck They still know your there. I just wear clean clothes, hunting boots and leather gloves. Make the set quickly at a good location and leave. I've had many first night catches. Just bed your trap solid.

  • '

what reason coyote trap and kill it for,,,

use coyote fur or eat coyote meat

  • @bestamerica Population management.

  • once you've driven your cable/chain in, and eventually want to remove it, what's the trick ? It seems pretty secure. I just use 1/2" x 2' rebar stakes. What's the mechanism you use called and, what's the most productive bait/lures you recommend. Not sure where you're trapping, I'm from Michigan. Excellent video, very educational and informative.

  • @nicsalamin Thanks. I use alot of Slim Pedersons Lures, some Clint Locklears Lures some Kaatz Bros. and Blakies Blend. I have an L shaped bar about 5feet loong, the short end has a hook to grab the chain,it has great leverage for pulling them out.I'm out of N. WI.

  • Hi there. Nice flat set. We linked to your video from our website as well. Just sent you a message now, hope you got it and will reply to it soon!

  • @coyotehuntinginfo Thanks.

  • where do you get the bags from and your shifters

  • @Coonhunting321 the bags I get at walmart or fleet farm, the one in this vid was from walmart for about 15bucks, I have one by bucket boss now thats around $20. The sifter I made but most trap supply have the expanded steel sifters now as well.

  • nice video, be shure to check out my videos

    on trapping to

  • How many times did you catch your own hand before you became proficient at setting it that well and knowing how hard to tamp the dirt down? I know this is obviously more of a sarcastic question but half ass serious, I am a fellow trapper but I like to know about peoples hard knock lessons so I don't someday make the same mistake where I can avoid to.

  • @mastercueartist lol, I still catch myself. Having a good pan tension helps, I have the tension set to around 4#.

  • @blakcanis I honestly have never caught myself in a trap I have always been extremely cautious when working with them, even mouse traps to this day lol. So I was curious, how bad does it hurt to get your hand caught in let's say the trap in this video?

  • @mastercueartist not too bad, with the laminated jaws the energy is displaced, so its not that bad. When it comes up through the dirt I'll hardly feel it because its slowed down some from the dirt. It doesnt break fingers or anything like some may think.

  • @blakcanis

you leave the cover on the pan?

    looks good

  • @79Testo Thanks. Yep, I leave the cover on,it keeps the dirt from filling in under the pan.

  • Yours' are best I've seen!! Trapped back in seventies before kids came along and fur prices tanked. Gettin' back into it now that I'm retired. Many fine points covered in your videos. Thanks again.

  • @teddyburker Thanks appreciate it.

  • Looked for your video on Kaatz bros. site.Gonna have another look.

  • @teddyburker their sold out on my coyote one. Since my computer crashed I lost the vids I kept on it to make more.Probably wont make more. I'll just upload clips on here as I shoot them.

  • I've replayed your two flatset videos half a dozen times each and pick up something new every time. Thanks

  • @teddyburker glad they help, good luck.

  • Do you pull you cable stakes out or leave them in the ground?

  • @Laxpro131 I pull them and re-use them.

  • what do you use for a pan cover?

  • How do u pull out those cable stakes? I plan on using them this year and wanted to know how to pull them out

  • Youre' pretty casual around that trap pan. I'm guessing youve' set a few off brushing your hands over them like that?

  • @fowler2671 Yep, have tripped a few, but I run 4 pounds of pan tension for good hook ups, but occassionally one will trip while bedding but not often.

  • love your shirt :P

  • what do you do with the yotes you catch

  • I use victor 1 1/2 laminated traps with piano wire springs and d-ring bases for coyotes with very good results, I also trap the foxes and bobcats, I have thought about modifing some of my bigger traps, how does the bridger #3 do with the smaller animals like say the grey fox? Thanks and Great video.

  • @ulcohatchee1959 they do fine on reds and coon. I have not caught any greys with them but would think the weight would be a little heavy for them. I've caught greys in smaller traps but we know how squirrelly they can be. Even the bmp testing on greys had shown trap selection can be difficult to match up to the grey fox due to their light bone structure. But for redfox, cats, coon and coyote I've had good results, the traps I use are inside and outside laminated and a minimium of 3 swivels.

  • @ulcohatchee1959 the number 3 bridger is two big for foxes though some are caught in them. For fox i would use the duke #1 3/4CS the extra size helps me for when i catch a coyote. But for coyote i use the duke # 3CS the bigger size is better for yote's

  • Really nice vid,,,enjoyed it!

  • cool man thanks alot, your hammer is built very well and made to last and i like that, thanks for the help and good luck trapping

  • Duckkiller, it's a regular mini maul about 3# with a piece of car leaf spring welded to the back and sharpened, I removed the original handle and replace it with a 3/4" steel rod with 1/4" rod welded along the sides so it doesn't roll in my hand. The ground hog is a well built tool and if I wasnt able to make what I did, I'd buy the ground hog.

  • is that hammer that ur using the "ground hog" ? do u like it? i was thinking of getting one :)

  • I'm working on some now

  • make more videos

  • if the cable stake only has one cable how do u get it back out of the ground? im new to cable stakes so how do u get them back out?

  • @thabeastateverything the way i do mine is if i have time i dig mine up if not i cut them off just below ground level. if found that digging them up leaves a big hole and its something ive found that yotes cant pass up and have to check it out. if i missed getting a yote i usally pick one up when they check out the big ass hole i made

  • @thabeastateverything They don't always come back out, but I use the tool that I use to put it in with. Stick the tool in through ring and brace against the ground for leverage and pull up.

Sometimes the cable breaks. good luck!

  • The guy that makes the Pogo Anchor System sells them, not sure where his contact info is,I bought mine at an NTA convention.

  • @blakcanis I'd try cheaper than dirt. its where I get most of my outdoors gear. its cheap N' its almost always good stuff. sometimes its old gear that needs a lil work but thats rare. can find damn near anything on that website. love it.

  • where did u get that shirt??

  • I like the shirt. I have one that says "Go green, Buy fur". It was either that or "Support diversity, Hug a trapper"

  • lol he's doing EXACTLY what the book told me to!

  • kota you just might. I know a few new trappers that caught their first coyote the year they started. Most important thing is having that trap bedded solid and location.. MrLead2, the cable stake has a spade end that flattens holding it in place while the above ground part of the cable is attached to the chain with a quik link.

  • thanx bro im going to start trapping this year thats a good set have to try it this year my uncle traps and he said that i probably wouldnt ketch a coyote this year but with the set that you just showed i might just prove him wrong.

  • This is going to make me sound really stupid, but how the hell does the chain stay down in the ground? (after you pounded it in with the stake) Thanks.

  • i have caught a good many coyote bare handed

  • i trap all season for a good many dairys and ranches and have seldom had coyotes worry about scent wax doesnt contol odor neither............from the bed of your truck or from your filthy gloves you are going to contaminate the wax............the only thing wax does is make the trap fire smoother and retard rust....it is like a magnet for foreighn odors....the only scent control you need is common sense use good practice they know you are theyre worry about makeing them interested

  • hey thanks for making this video i am 14 now and i am just starting to trap and i dont a ton of info so thanks

  • its impossible to keep human scent of a set...............a coyote can smell 3 parts per million as i was told bye a biologist who spent over 30 years trapping and studying coyotes.....we shed billions of skin particles a day as well as breathe....not to count cros contamination from even our gloves etc...............why get worryed over something you cant controll?? human odor is overated they know you are there period

  • I would have to disagree if you do not worry about Human Scent. Don't ware gloves and do not wax your traps you will not be successful. Try not using Scent control and go set 12 coyote traps see how you do

  • Very well done. Learned alot from you and will come in handy when I begin trapping coyotes.

  • Why do you put wax paper on there

  • then dirt might get underneath the pan and when the animal that steps on it will not set if off because the pan didn't go down

  • lol he said the exact same thing at the bottom of the page

  • you put it there so the dirt wont get in under the pan if dirt gets in under the pan the trap might not fire

  • @CoyoteTrapper13 I make quite a few first night catches. The most important thing is making sure the trap is bedded solid.Human scent if you think about it is everywhere in the fall from bird hunters to deer hunters. Keeping yourself and your clothes clean helps minimize scent, but you still won't hide the fact you were there from a coyote.

  • @blakcanis Also,How many trappers set at farm gates for coyotes,I do all the time, and it occured to me that gates on farm lanes is a popular spot for a farmer or hired help to take a whiz, lol, but it doesn't stop coyotes from getting caught. Something to think about.

  • Human scent is over rated when it comes to animals. The scent will be gone in a few days if it rains then quicker.

  • cool, what was the paper for?

  • The wax paper is a pan cover to keep dirt from getting under the pan which would prevent the trap from firing.
