A lot of gamers are also music fans and enjoy making videos combining gameplay with their favorite music. I do this mostly with '90s-era video game music combined with gameplay from modern games (usually done in the style of an action movie). Banning gameplay videos is like banning sketchpads so people can't draw pictures (unless they have some chickenshit permit). If you want a single-player game that you can actually do videos with, get the STALKER games.
I dont think EA realizes that gameplays, walktrhoughs, lets plays, etc. are also consumer satisfaction reports, submitted BY THE CONSUMERS! the video tells them what they did right, what the majority of uploaders and users like about the game, what problems it had, and what they can fix! if i were in charge of one of these companies, i would certainly allow youtube and other internet media to post my games! even if the market research division says otherwise, they dont know what they're saying!

I definitely agree. I bought donkey kong country returns from watching a youtuber (SSoHPKC) play through it, i watched the whole game, but STILL BOUGHT IT! The same goes for many games, (im sure nintendo doesnt care) i bought bulletstorm from watching the same youtuber do it. i watched the whole thing till the end, but they still got my money. the only thing there doing is losing customers.
I'm pretty sure they will be fine with sales without you Youtubing the game. You are focusing on the ending. There are hours and hours and hours of game play you can record without showing the ending. You act as if they are making the game for the Youtube commentary community. It does not benefit them at all for you to show the ending. It's like a movie reviewer saying nothing about the movie but telling you the ending of the movie. Why would I want to see the movie when I know the ending?
I agree with some of what you're saying but I personally and friends of mine hear of games through everything except play throughs, mostly people use Play throughs to get through a part in the game they get stuck at. The way I look at it, the companies out there shouldn't care if the endings are shown, most gamers won't watch the ending anyway, I wouldn't.
Singularity is a cool game produced by Activision created by Raven Software --- I wouldn't have heard about the game if someone like SSoHPKC didn't make a playthrough of the game - which I did go out and play it and i'm probably going to get the sequel to the game when it comes out - so playthroughs are more of free advertisement and if i'm going to watch a playthrough to the end --- and besides people who make playthroughs need to buy the game so that is money for the publisher/producer...
You're totally right Fist. It's very stupid of them to ban videos that basically are free comercials for their games. They don't understand the market at all. A game is about more than an ending. Gaming is about the journey not the destination.

I like to watch the walkthrough of games as it helps me decide if i want to buy it or not. I buy alot of my games because of this. I normally watch a few on SSoHPKC channel... Ive now just recently watch the Homefront vids. I wasnt sure about this game, but watching what he has put up so far, Im liking it. So because of that i will buy it. Stopping that will make it worse.

I can only talk for myself, but I only watch let's plays of games which i dont wanna buy, but kinda interest me. and if I really like what I see, im gonna buy it and play it myself. so walkthroughs promote games. And I dont think that people who are really interested in the games they watch, that they're going to watch the ending too. they might actually buy it.
Another reason why walkthroughs arent that bad is the fact that they might help you complete the game.

I've tried to play it twice and it just feels sluggish and boring, but Sgt Merrel was playing Dragon Age 2 and within 3 vids from him I really feel like picking it up - I'd have not even LOOKED at it as an option for a purchase if it weren't for Merrel's vids.

This is what happens when companies get threatened by the used game sale revenue. They don't want you to beat their games quickly and trade in the game, they don't want you to have idea how to play the game other than what is provided in your manual. They want all that money to themselves even if it means ultimatums like this. Might as well as get rid of the strat guides.
Well machinima did spread word about this a while ago that developers don't want your game playthroughs to include the cutscenes to spoil the surprise for some people that might buy the game. Showing the cutscenes can deter them cause "they saw it all".

I can only talk for myself, but I only watch let's plays of games which i dont wanna buy, but kinda interest me. and if I really like what I see, im gonna buy it and play it myself. so walkthroughs promote games. And I dont think that people who are really interested in the games they watch, that they're going to watch the ending too. they might actually buy it.
Another reason why walkthroughs arent that bad is the fact that they might help you complete the game.

why are you making a big deal about posting playthroughs up to the ending? Single player mode is a story, an interactive story. Nobody wants spoilers for movies why do you think it's any different for video games? If your intent is to showcase a game, then only one video is enough for me to see whether i want to buy the game or not. But thats not your intent. Your intent is that this is an easy way to churn out videos. Same reason everybody is doing a road to commander.

Agreed, Fist. I couldn't stand Dragon Age 1. I've tried to play it twice and it just feels sluggish and boring, but Sgt Merrel was playing Dragon Age 2 and within 3 vids from him I really feel like picking it up - I'd have not even LOOKED at it as an option for a purchase if it weren't for Merrel's vids.

Most of the games I've ever bought (Minecraft, Oblivion, Morrowind, Red dead redemption, mount and blade AND SO ON) Was bought because I watched play-throughs and thought: "Hell, I want this game!" ... This is BS... Most of the walkthroughs and lets plays are to help others play the game.. People look at single player games and watch a persons strategy and adapt it to there own style.. Youtube is used for assistance in your game. You should be able to play the game and if we have to leave the ending out so be it.. But honestly companies shouldnt stop gameplays of there single player mode on the web. It may not be used here its gonna be some where else any way

This is what happens when companies get threatened by the used game sale revenue. They don't want you to beat their games quickly and trade in the game, they don't want you to have idea how to play the game other than what is provided in your manual. They want all that money to themselves even if it means ultimatums like this. Might as well as get rid of the strat guides.

Well machinima did spread word about this a while ago that developers don't want your game playthroughs to include the cutscenes to spoil the surprise for some people that might buy the game. Showing the cutscenes can deter them cause "they saw it all".
But it sounds like they just don't want the "endings" posted?.. so if I do a playthrough and exclude the ending cutscenes. we should be fine?
Not too bad.. but if it's actual gameplay.. then that sucks.
