  • this version is shit

  • Loo Reed is a great song writer. but why doesn't he leave the lead guitar to someone who can actually play' the intro to this song is bloody awful !

  • Rock Treasure...!!!...

  • didnt realise how bad he was on lead guitar :s

  • wrooooogggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggggggggaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:(:(:(:(:(:(

  • What a leñazo intro!!

  • PUMPING BLOOD!

  • Music starts at 1:35 incase anyone's interested.

  • Mi in his glory years? Isn't that now :-)? Hmmm... I'd love to see you dancing and acting crazy on this song!

  • i liked the end

  • es la mejorrrrrrrrr

  • yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! :))))

  • lou reed sucks at guitar! Damn!!!

  • affff

  • He Kinda looks Like Jason Newsted in the vid xD

  • @brassmonkey456654

haha yeh, wanted to say that too.

  • Great song once they finished with the 1:30 worth of pointless dick swinging

  • @bdrasin if you don`t like lou, why don`t you turn it off ? you are a pointless dick swinger, enjoy your diy tommy tank, why don`t you tell us about something worthwhile you done ?

  • OK, I have liked a lot of what Lou Reed and the Velvet Underground have done over the years. This is not a bad version of Sweet Jane, once they actually get to the song, but what the hell is with the crap for the first minute and a half? Enough of the Ego BS jamming, get to the music! I got through Metal Machine Music years ago and was not that impressed. Noise Jams still aren't so fun for most of us.

Sheesh. Yeah, stick with the music, not the ego sessions.

  • I idolize Lou but man, he has a bad sh*t filter.

Intro and his singing are both really weak.

  • Love the power intro

    Sweeeeeeeet jaaaaaaane

  • I find this version of the song very disappointing.

  • he looks like Jason Newsted!

  • The New Metallica Album gonne be with Lou Reed they have making it together

  • Intro sounds a lot like "Hit the Lights" Hmmm.... Maybe there is more of a Metallica connection than meets the eye!

  • HI LOU !!!!!

I' LL SEE YOU ON NEXT PISTOIA BLUES FESTIVAL.....

  • have a look to cover of Piggy piper live in Barzana Italy more like rock &roll animal albun

  • é bom apreciar as coisas boas, as coisas más ficam para trás

  • the drummer is great

  • What an idiot! You are pure crap. If you have a problem with delayed gratification, see your doctor.

  • Lou Reed cannot sing. That said, he is a legend.

  • che figata cazzo o.O

  • The intro is not crap at all. This is accomplished musicians playing accomplished music. A very tight band showing you how its done. Stick that in your Bieber.

  • @kmlgraph VERY TIGHT BAND this..the tightest Reed ever had

  • 48" Mr Kyle?

  • he plays every song as he is feeling it a that moment, the beauty of his songs is that they can be played many ways and touch someone new each time.. Is this my fav version of this song.. not at all...

  • The first minute Viperion444 is referring to is actually the opening to "What's Good" from the album Magic and Loss. Probably played by Mark Rathke, not Lou, crank up the studio version for some killer dark power guitar.

  • What at fucker. Look at that pair of Surf Boxes!

Great version of a classic. I love how Lou changes up all of his classics depending on his mood and band backing him.

  • rocks savoir inventor and creatour

  • They played the ending first.

  • louuuuuuu... lowwwwwwww?

no godddddddddd so fuckin hard! love IT!

  • avanti dilettanti.

After he sucked Andy Warhol's dick he is considering himself as a great artist.

  • @Knibbel56 Must feel cool to type dick on youtube, huh? I wouldn't know, because I have a proper brain.

  • @KingOfUm

If you really have a proper brain you can change the word 'dick' in whatever you want.

  • @Knibbel56 Listen, that isn't even my point; I was poking fun at you for being an uneducated jerk. Anyone who actually knows something about Lou Reed and Andy Warhol wouldn't leave such an ignorant comment.

  • @KingOfUm

I assume that you have so much in common with Lou Reed - mediocre talent and beeing a pseudo intellectual.

  • @Knibbel56 Oooh, silly youtuber Kibbel56 is going the distance by insulting another youtuber with very little relevance to the POINT, obviously trying to distract from the fact that you're simply wrong. Clever beeing, you are.

  • They are tuning their instruments. Lou Reed is the rock'n'roll animal...I love him!

  • So much for the guitar playing of Reed. Jeez, terrible.

  • sounds a bit like tom petty learning to fly

  • First minute and a half is "Dorita" from "Magic & Loss"

  • lou seems to be joking here with his voice, how lovely is that

  • the intro is from magic and loss you morons, lou is not to be judged he is God

  • is this Lou Reed Shred video?

  • Comment removed

  • Bluesy, and Rock n Roll and yes a little senile!

  • Awesome - Sehr gut - Extraordinàrio!+

  • yep lou is slightly senile

  • That opening is a bit excessive.

  • To those of you who don't get the essence of Lou Reed, may the baby buddha shut yo' mouth and open yo' mind. Perfect, hard as diamond soft as black leather.

  • The "crap" bit is purely to add more impact to when it all kicks in! Works well. Superb version.

  • please type in lou reed, dick wagnar, steve hunter, sweet jane intro this sucks pretty bad

  • Comment removed

  • the worse the playing before the opening riff the better it sounds- its all theater.

  • they're his songs and he can do what he wants with them. bugger off.

  • That's an opening!

  • Oh boy, the first minute and a half sounds like a 'shred' version, utter crap.

Why does Lou always destroy his own songs, with poor phrasing and complete lacklustre guitar playing?

    This puts me to sleep.

  • sweet

  • Lou Reed la mia vita!!

  • You either like it, or you don't. Seem to remember 'rock and roll' being credited with being spontaneous. Take it or leave it. Personally, any version of this will make me feel good

  • Wow your stupid!

  • Comment removed

  • He is good at that don't ya think?

  • steve hunter's intro is better.

nobody does an intro like steve.

  • Dreadful intro,great performance,anyway !!!!

  • first minute and a half is pure crap

  • @Viperion444 Get fucked muther fucker. The intro is pure r o c k 'n' r o l l! then we are hit with "T h a t " Riff. Think about it... it's not Science?

  • @Viperion444

The intro is the guitar intro of his album "Magic and Loss", a song called Dorita.

    It's not pure crap. It's a song.

  • @retrovertigo75 Thank you. You saved me a post. Except for this one.

  • @Viperion444 I know, I'm getting flashbacks of the a-holes in my neighborhood making noise all day from their garage!

  • @Viperion444 Crap? Or Self-Indulgent? Obviously there's no revolutionary guitar playing going on, but its not crap.

  • @Viperion444 i have to admit....as good as this is, the first minute and a half is a waste of time

  • @Viperion444 Go listen to Bieber and be happy.

  • @Viperion444 It's called musical improvisation and creativity.

  • ? :/ badintro

  • Intro from "Magic and loss", "What's good", 1992

  • @velvettapeoficial It sounds more like an outro.

  • Great Great performance ! Lou doesn't need to be complicated or noisy anymore. He just say the song as simply as he can. Perfect.

  • It's what ages and expedience does my friend, he totally is better right now.

  • too hard to listen to this

  • @ke3wh

did you make it past 1:42 ?

  • no, not even a minute. Such a great song, why does he keep messing with it?

  • if you listen from 1:43 onwards you will see that he plays the song normally (with a little variation)

  • The Live Take No Prisoners version is the best live version of this song.

  • This is what happens when you take old musicians and their songs and update them with modern equipment. The sound is impeccable but he's vocal are not up to Lou's standards, but he gets a pass from me cause he had been playing that song for more than 30 years at the time.

IMO, the best live version of this song its the one he does in Letterman, look it up its great.

  • pretty mediocre version

i dont know wtf they were thinking in the intro

  • Comment removed

  • How can anyone write stupid comments about Lou Reed and his masterpieces?

Guess some people don't understand his artistic mastery.

Just have to defend one of the best.

    Debby

  • there's nothing to understand. either sb likes it or not, don't give us this "art" crap...

  • No more art crap 4 U

  • No fun getting old dyed hair and a chicken neck

  • What's with the bluesy stadium rock riffs Lou? Sterling Morrison must have been laughing in his grave at the intro.

  • Lou has been playing this song for close to 40 years, of course he's going to change it up to keep it interesting to himself. If all you people complaining want to hear the VU version, go listen to the album.

  • @PabloOzuna Your right!

  • @PabloOzuna rite...with dylan we learned to show up and see/hear how the entertainer wishes to bring his material, as you say, the stuff of 4o yrs. some audiences/patrons r slow to learn the lesson.

its an opportunity for a darwin award, for those who dont get it...good post & way 2 b alive

  • There really is no point in listening to Lou Reeds solo shit, its really quite bad. Hes like a beginner trying to play along with a tune and singing all over the shop. How much longer can he keep palming this half baked crap off on us all based on his rep is all I can ask?

  • Poor as fuck

  • I love the Velvets, but Lou sounds like he's really strung out on this one.

  • Great song

  • Dudes, you are missing the boat on this one. This is far from the best version of this song. Rock &Roll Animal's cut is by far Greater, but when listened to deeply, manifests itself as one of the hallmarks and milestones of when true R & R as we know it today was created. Listen, yes, listen to the Hunter Brothers do the intro, and absorb Lou as he takes the stage and profoundly lays down what is to this day a profound litany of hard core R & R , yet in its purest form. Say No More

  • Rock is not supposed to be that deep :)

  • What makes you such an expert on rock, why can't it be deep, though some don't get it. I suppose you went to Rock University, no offence at all meant, just being funny.

  • I am an expert, I have been listening to it all my life! As has most of the peeps here!

You want deep rock go listen to Rush and Yes :)

  • @ke3wh and king crimson

  • Ok, you say you are an expert listener, are you a life long pro musician? I am, the rock band I played with toured once with Reed. He is every bit as deep as Rush and Yes, Crimson and so on. I'm a keyboardist. You are abviously from what you say as old as I am, I was in Viet Nam, married, kids, they listened to Reed, loved his deep verses. Music is very subjective to everyone, no one song means the same. I don't understand the word "Peep". My grown kids don't either.

  • Funny you should ask.... 34 years myself. Lead guitar. Peeps = People. Not a big Lou Reed fan, but I like Sweet ane, and hate what he has done to it.

  • @ke3wh I hate YOU! <3

  • @deelightandbrite Thats ok, at least your honest :)

  • @ke3wh :D

  • @keysB3P Yeaa old ppl

  • @jordanadult What does your comment mean? Sorry I'm not up on the newer lingo.

  • @ke3wh yes is gay, and so are you i suspect

  • @gonlaz Riiiiight.....very original and mature reply....

  • Seems he's got a diploma in Rock or maybe just in bullshitting.

Not trying to be funny, just offensive:-)

  • Is that the very best you can do? Yes he does have a degree in music. Not in expressing bad information. There is no reason to be offensive as it will not bother me at all, you will look very silly though! Try to sound a bit more intelligent if possible. Lou is a very deep and intelligent man, why not write about it.

  • i hate to say this but i like Gang of four's cover better :[ dammit and i totally love lou reed, but i just like their version better, i feel like this song needs more harmony and gang of four has that. Lou reed just doesnt at least in this performance.

  • I liked it. That retarded intro to the song was retarded.

  • Lou Reed looks like Jason Newsted at times on this video

  • great intro

  • great version!

  • I hate the way he sings it.

  • Well you know why they signed Nico to velvet underground

  • i hate seeing incredible rock stars grow old. they just shouldnt. i wish they would all die young. i wouldnt even wanna see jimi as an old man. just look at bob dylan. he is my idol, or at least his music, and i hate what he does now.

  • Lou reed... some of his solo stuff is not bad, but is not great either, and in our hearts we know that although it sounds all right, it's actually just shite

  • thank you sick boy

  • hahah :)

    You got the point

  • Dude you're an idiot if you think his solo stuff sucks, and you call yourself a rock fan. That was probably the stupidest thing I've ever heard, and I don't have anything personal against you. Seriously, you obviously haven't heard anything by him. How about Transformer? New York? Maybe you should actually LISTEN to the lyrics instead of looking for the next pop banger, and then you'll be able to enjoy it.

  • I can't take anyone serious if they act like they know about rock music and then come back and call Lou Reed's solo work "shite." Wow.

  • I was digging the vid...then surprised at the end...were there BOOS from people in the crowd?

(lots of cheering as well ...but am I hearing things,...sounds like a small amount of boos)

  • every time he takes the stage you kinda hear boos (check the Zappa RnR hall of fame inductment speech made by Reed) People are juste shouting : Loooooouuuuuuuuu (which can sound like booos

  • My alcoholic beverage is the only thing making this sound any better.

  • Look at his face... that is one baad heroin-abuse.

  • Awful vocals too in this version. Although I adore Lou Reed.

  • Terrible intro.

  • This is not an intro, it's Dorita, from Magic and Loss ...

  • its played a litle faster and makes it kinda happyer actually not bad ...

  • the haters of this version can have their opinions, but their wrong! this version kicks ass! im not a massive rou reed fan but i love this, much better than others exept maybe the Cowboy Junkies one

  • yes.

  • thanks for this send Ezequiel!! great stuff!! =)

  • Don't kid yourself. This version is terrible. The noise-making intro sounds shite, and Lou's vocals are fucking awful. Come on now.

  • he is old

  • fuck off!!

listen to his guitar then learn.

  • i didnt mean to disrespect; i love his stuff. i own his first solo and Metal Machine Music

  • exelente video gracias por compartirlo,,,,

  • Great riff indeed! This version sounds very nice.

  • one of the best riffs ever

  • possibly the coolest guy ever.

  • acid, you are talking about rock and roll royalty here. please understand that he tells a story better than most.

  • wtf are you talking about??

  • "Heavenly wine and roses seem to whisper to her when he smiles."

Since Lou omitted it, I thought someone had to say it.

  • @FungoLingo YES YES YES my fav lyric in Sweet Jane!!

  • I worked back stage for his show here in Copenhagen a few years back.

    Worst show I ever saw.

And I am a big Lou Reed and the Velvet Underground fan..

    Worst show ever!

  • GREAT CONCERT!

  • I saw this same line up live in Manchester a few years ago(although Fernando had hair),it was/is the best gig I have ever been to,and I've seen all the big rock names.Lou is phenomenal,he has this presence I've not noticed with any other artist. You must see this man live,to know what I mean.

  • black bassist ftw!!! right on

  • hey that is missing the point. the point is i
