Very few senators think intelligently. Communism doesn't work. BUT certain socialist variables can fit into the capitalist equation. There is profit INSIDE America! Or we could just blow up Grosse Point, Palm Springs, Rodeo Drive, and most importantly every fashionable "hot spot" in NYC. If you don't have it, you won't want it. Dog psychology, thank you.
Your state has a crappy health care system (which only makes private insurance companies stronger) that is going to be a model for the nation as a whole.
Look at the elephant in the room. Through the taxing power of government, the American taxpayer for decades has been treated like a giant venture capital fund, a source of financing for business and a bailout specialist. If you want to get rid of speculation, then tax it. the capital gains tax should start at 100% on any profits made in a speculative sale that takes 24 hours or less, and then slowly decrease until it reaches the income tax rate after lets say 10 years.
Thank you Senator Sanders, you tell it like it is. I am not a Liberal, nor am I a Conservative, I am an honest American who is fed up with some of the very wealthy never being satisfied. It seems they always need more. It doesn't matter to them where or how they get it. President Obama has a mess to try and straighten out, because of the so called conservatives...give me a break.
Laughable. Wall Street's greed is only matched by congressional greed and incompetence. Wall street does not run Freddie or Fannie nor did it institute legislation that required lending institutions lend to people without the means to repay a housing loan, your institution did that senator. Wall Street, acting upon their greed, merely found ways to profit from your insane laws. Go tell your BS on the Hill or to the leftwing media nuts were the average person is psychotic enough to believe it.
What leftwing media? Do you mean CNN which refuses to use the word "speculation" in describing the manipulation of the oil commodity market and has spent the last several weeks covering the "michael jackson" death. Or maybe your inferring to NBC Today show which showcased a story on "bad marriages". Yep, stuff right out of the Communist Manifesto. I think of conservatives everytime I get raped at the gas pump, pay $3.00 for 1/2 gallon OJ, and $400/month electric/gas bill. Thanks
Republicans should be hung with lobbyists, lawyers, judges, bankers, corporate officers, and anyone else who conspires with others against the American people. America isn't land of the brave, might have been the case 100 years ago, but Americans TODAY are nothing but SHEEP for letting all this happen, and not doing anything about it...except complaining like whining beotches here, in blogs, and online in general. Get out and form coalitions against these social terrorists who ruin your lives.
C'mon Sanders, you can't kill the hydra by cutting off a few of its heads. You have to kill its heart...the Federal Reserve! Abolish the Federal Reserve Act of 1913! or at least audit the mf so we can see how evil it really is.
We need a wall street that is not proped up by the government when they decide to get foolish at our expense and then plead ignorance to their brazen lack of regard for the investors.
Attacking the salaries of Wall Street executives that profit from the demise of America is like battling leprosy by squishing with a hammer, the gangrenous limbs that fall off of a leper. It might be satisfying, and it may feel good to be striking such a nasty abomination, but it sure isnt helping the leper.
The real root of the problem is the 401(k). Billions and billions of laborers dollars, but the laborer has no voice, no vote, no say in company decision making.
Sanders is a fascist! The guy signed a contract and earned the fuking money people! This bastard will come after your pay someday, oh wait! HE ALREADY IS!
Congrats - You guys gave them millions to hand out to each other. Hey it really isn't there fault - who the hell gave them our money- AND YOU DIDN"T EVEN ASK US BEFORE YOU DID IT. Just like you don't want to ask us about health care change before you wright all the new take over laws. I just woke up in a different country. !!!!
Dear stupid: George Bush and Co. wrote the TARP bill so stop living in LaLa land, trying to blame the guy whose trying to fix YOU CONSERVATIVES MESS! Once again, YOUR PRES. passed tarp and the rest was history so pull your head out or stop lying, whichever the case may be. YOURS. BUSH, NOT OBAMA passed TARP, dummy.
dear dummy... both Bush and Obama work for the same group of international bankers, as have nearly every president since the days of Andrew Jackson. he allowed the charter of the second of 3 privately owned, central banks to expire referring to it as a den of vipers and thieves. what do you think Woodrow Wilson was talking about after signing the Federal Reserve Act into existence?
as for Obama, simple economics; you can't borrow your way out of debt.
There are no "take over laws" exept in your fantasy, in your mind where up is down, and Bush's TARP loans were created/passed by Obama. It's total fantasy or a total lie. You're either mind-numbingly stupid or you're just lying, which?
There are plenty of take over laws - why don't you read them and get back yo me. Call me some more names if you want but OBAMA is spending us into a depression as as fast as he can. HURRY UP AND PASS SOME MORE SPENDING LAWS - ISN'T THIS SO MUCH FUN.
Get your history straight you republican robot. You better stop programming yourself with FOX NEWS propaganda. Admit that Washington is overrun with greed and both parties are guilty of fucking up America not just democrats. The people must march upon Washington and remove any politician who is culpable in undermining our freedoms and prosperity. We must hold them accountable both Democrats and Republicans. They will never change unless we make them change you blind brainwashed republican jerk.
So let me see if I understand, we should let Socialist take over our country because of this wall street crook. Oh sure, why not, makes since to me. Actually this is the most reasonable augment from the fascist Ive heard. Genius! pure genius. He came from the little red school house.
@americanKnowNothing, before you start calling people morons, maybe you should get your facts straight. The CRA was actually passed in 1977 and nobody this side of wingnutville believes it had ANYTHING to do with the current crisis. And yeah the dems've been in control since 2006 but anything they tried to do b4 2008 was vetoed by bush and/or filibustered by the repubs. I don't dispute that the dems could've done more but there's no doubt that the shit we're in now--in every area- is 99% bush
What was the name of that movie an book where that happened? - I can't remember - but the trailer trash mother was actually a fundimentalist Republican Christian - like you.
By the way - read up on the news and see what is going on all around you. I own my home but homes on either side of me are empty for the first time in decades -- My fellow instructors have lot the value on their 401 ks as well.
Republican leaders have betrayed America to help their wealthy and greedy friends. The Republicans have betrayed America and therefore been voted out of office.
What is the the base of that comment the point he was making is that gov bush and his side kike dick fuck this country for 99cents but you wish to defend you point with what? by Demisting how dumb you conservatives really are for that reason alone is why you lost any power in this country.
americanknowitall1 you are an angry disgruntled man who loves to attack other people and insult them, and call their mothers whores or sluts, now if you are trying to outdo the other party in insults, then by all means do so, you are winning and giving republicans a good name, but if you want to grow up and engage in meaningful, respectful, and civil dialogue/debate, then we'll be waiting, the ball is in your court
You didn't mention illegal wire taps, torture, and war crimes...oh wait-that was the Bush people that did that--as well as the coverups.. funny-you are really stupid -how did you learn to use a computer? Suck Rush Limbaugh's cock.
At one time we could storm the big house on the hill with torches and pitchforks, tar and feather and run the bastards out of town on a railroad tie. Where is the house on the hill now? The rats are hiding behind walls and gates. Anybody got a hacksaw?
Shouldn't the incentive structure be changed before anything else? One can replace the CEOs, but if their replacements are motivated in the same fashion we may very well end up with the same result.
i like sanders, but when people paint speculators as a bogeyman for the ills of society they really show their ignorance. if you want to decrease the impact of the boom/bust cycle, increase the margin requirements and/or the bank reserve requirement. all acts of investment are a form of speculation. speculators are necessary to create liquid markets.
Exposing the Fed is key. Thankfully Senator Sanders' S.604 and Ron Paul's H.R.1207 to Audit the Fed are what we really need. The real problem with bonuses is that there's no risk in wall street - we need to stop the 'too big to fail' and bailouts. Greed isn't completely the problem - if these companies were allowed to fail, these people wouldn't push it to the limit because they'd keep their risk in check. It's very distasteful - but that's the system our government has unfortunately allowed.
Jefferson was brilliant but by his estimation, we should've had at LEAST 10 violent revolutions by now, that's why there were other opinions needed in founding this Great Experiment called Democracy. We must be ever vigilant and stay involved and disallow the charlatains from leadership as we discover them, and have faith in few, BUT STILL SOME, of our leaders. The newest ones are the least corrupt, Let's give Obama a chance and some support! It's 6 mos in, let's give 6 or 12 more and see?
No BUSH gave them Billions w/o regulation. There was no provision in the TARP bill for regulation because Bush wanted to give one last present to his cronies and give Obama a PR/Political nightmare to deal with along w/all the other probs Bush Created, then left for the smart black guy to fix. Bush was/is a terrorist.
agreed... doesn't change the fact that ALL of "our" elected representatives(?) are in the pockets of the international bankers and corporations. a corporation's ONLY goal is "profit" and likewise a banker's ONLY goal is "profit". interestingly enough, once both combined rob everyone blind they become tyrannical rulers over the "landless" peasants.
its rarely a frontal assault/military attack that destroys nations. wake up, please :o) WE cant blame the puppets.
The system of banking [is] a blot left in all our Constitutions, which, if not covered, will end in their destruction... I sincerely believe that banking institutions are more dangerous than standing armies; and that the principle of spending money to be paid by posterity is but swindling futurity on a large scale. - Thomas Jefferson
I trust you know alot about the beliefs of Jefferson and while he made sense, he never seemed to come up with a solution that would allow folks to live their lives, have families, husbands, wives, be informed of the dangers of freedom as well as the beauties, the way to have ambition for ones self w/o becoming a greed soaked fool. He only seemed to think himself into a state of misery. Should we toss the possibility of getting some of our Ideals back (Obama), in the same bag as Bush?
...WHAT IS YOUR SOLUTION?! Just 4get about trying to fix it and nuke the whole thing? Trash Obama's ideas because he's trying to work inside the system to achieve them? You can think yourself into a goddamn corner and every wonderfully intelligent thing you say may be well thought out and bring outrage to the listener BUT WHAT ABOUT PPL WHO JUST NEED ACCESS TO HEALTH CARE W/O BANKRUPTCY AND WANT TO LIVE W/ FREEDOM, A LITTLE INCOME AND A LITTLE DIGNITY?! Clever debater+no solutions = ALITL8
What about ppl who just wanna work hard and cover their bills, how do we make sure these ppl are shown what's going on so they can get involved in their Gov't? I guess your "solution" is just to trash all who try as "morons" who don't know... what? Enough quotes from only ONE of our Founders? Congrats on your elite education! Sounds like now that the American Dream made your life and education possible, that it's time to blow it all up cuz it's just not saveable and nobody can be trusted, Right?
If I was Jim Cramer I wouldn't give a shit whether anyone tries to better this country for everyone because I would've already sucked my 100 million out of the system and when you have that kind of money and you have those kind of resources and connections, how can you care about the things I care about? I actually care if folks lives are screwed by one family illness, I get it; I lived it. So, no.
Thanks for the sentiment but of course, you know, I am an American and the wisecracks don't change our messed up system. There's gotta be something most of us can agree upon. Notwithstanding the sad, vitriolic liars like AmercanKnowItall1 who throws around bigotry because of his tiny weewee and cowardice hiding behind a keyboard. I guarantee you that desent ppl have more in common than not and I'll bet if we ignore the fringe, good shit'll happen....
Yes I Agree these People are TOTAL BULLSHIT ! Just Like Demint and BAUCUS are BULLSHIT letting innocent POOR CITIZENS DIE for Nothin But GREED in their POCKETS BOYCOTT WALMART OR BE A LOOSER !
hes right. you also have to get rid of the dems. and reps. in office now. they are guilty of destroying this country. with the help of the international bankers ofcourse
The whitehouse has released the new realitycheck website which addresses many of the myths you have been hearing. If you have not gotten it in your email, I have a link to it on my profile in both the side bar and the comment section. Thanks.
Yes, it seems that most of the GOP have no interest in any input from America. Remember that Dick Cheney's disdain for the electorate is their way of doing business. They steal elections, and then stack the deck against America. Too bad for them, the Internet and cell phone cameras exist to record their sociopathic behavior.
The Fed is the problem, you can never stop wallstreet greed. To keep it in check, you have to control the government's spending. The only way to do that is to return to a Constitutional money system. First step - Audit the Fed - support HR 1207. Once they are audited, you'll see the web of money shoot out from the Fed bank to these wallstreet goons with the politicians in the middle.
As a reformed Libertarian, I like Paul, too. But, he is faulty on the solutions to our woes. Not to be critical, but I think you do yourself a disservice by thinking Wall St are Keynesians. No philosophers there - they have one god named, Mammon and they sacrifice us all to their alter of selfishness. Also, the IMF audited the Fed last year which triggered the Sept revelations. The world didn't trust us then and barely trust us now. The Fed is a big problem, but let's not go half cocked on them.
Samaria, We can't fire them, because they don't work for us. We can't arrest them, because they wrote the laws and they're not doing anything illegal. Liquidating their assets requires a confiscatory government we wouldn't stand for; who would stop them from coming after US? We CAN put the spotlight on them and keep it on. Name names, pictures on the internet, bonus amounts. Remember the AIG bonuses they Gave Back? Shame works. Treat them like scandal-riddled celebrities.
I'm a vermonter myself and am very familiar with Mr. Sanders. I agree with what hes trying to do, but he (and others) are focusing on the wrong agenda here. He says the Middle Class is in trouble, and something has to be done. I agree that something needs to be done but not with the Middle Class. We need to look at where the majority of our citizens fit. Last time I checked, only like 20-25% of the country was Middle Class. The bottom of the pyramid has to be stable before you can build the rest
I wouldn't stop at 'no bonuses". These greedy capitalist scum should be executed. Not just the investment bankers...the CEO's of Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley along with every oil speculator should be executed for treason! And their families imprisoned for 20 years of hard labor. Every
Republican in Congress and every conservative pundit covering for them, like Mitch McConnell and Glen Beck, should be executed. This is not just malfeasance but TREASON and death is the penalty.
I understand your sentiment .. but these plays were made mostly legal .. cash no longer has allegiance to country .. prosectution will be slow and costly .. this financial engineering industry must be simplified (ie made illegal) .. or maybe the best way is for us to do it on our own .. stop playing the market especially stocks .. buy bonds instead of stocks .. make the corporations borrow money like the rest of us (they still have to pay that back)(bonuses for CEOs after the bills are paid)
You know what, i was thinking just that but for Gordon Brown over here in the UK and Tony Blair. And it should be televised public hanging, no youtube stuff like with Sadam. I bet that F***er is still alive somewhere.
I know one of his solutions is to Audit the Federal Reserve and get that under control. It is one of the leading causes in the financial bubble. If it wasn't for their easy credits in the 90s.. the housing bubble may have not formed. Thanks Feds!
Well said Senator Sanders, but what's the next step? Everything you've said I've heard 100 times from my neighbor to the White House. So how are we going to get Wall St. under control? Let's get going! Thanks.
Dear Rogue Crew, I have just learned of Senator Sanders but he sounds like he is against big business and is trying to make a difference. Ron Paul has been fighting for the abolition of the Federal Reserve for over two decades and is also one of six Republicans who voted against attacking Iraq. I would say they are two politicians who could have a glass of wine or a couple of beers together and agree to disagree! Shouldn't the good guys stop name calling and stand against tyranny? Pam
Hi Nagarya, Ron Paul has been a Republican since the 1980s. I wouldn't consider his stand against the military industrial complex and the Federal Reserve and Big Banks to be "far right and part of the system that caused this economic crisis". He has been fighting for our Constitution for the last two decades. I don't see politics as being either "far right or far left". I am afraid we are already well on the road to fascism. Pam
Really... greed. Money... if the government had let the companies fail and gave all the money to EVERY American we'd be in much better shape. Dump the CEOs and get real the world have changed!
Wealthy politicos will wail, "Class Warfare!" at Sanders, and I chuckle. Class warfare goes on every day against the bottom 85% of the population, but we are not supposed to react. We may have needed to bail out Wall St., but we also should have been bailing out the communities undermined by the shenanigans of the finance industry and of the health care profiteers.
Such an affront for us to demand single payer funding for universal access to high quality, comprehensive health care!
the exalted kings of wall street? are you kidding me? you obviously understand nothing of politics because those wall street "kings" are only there because the government wants them there!!! if they let them fall like any other business they would all be GONE and REPLACED- read some economics and history my friend...
The compensation structure of the high-flying firms definitely needs to be revisited. It affects each of us because when the top "producers" or "executives" of these firms get $100 million dollars, that corporate expense is merely passed on down the line and the ultimate good or service is made more expensive to the consumers. How much money does a man need?
The greed disease is pervasive throughout US 'business' interests. Just think why Bush insisted on protecting our 'interests' in his war on terror. These aren't 'our' interests but those of the greed-disease-ridden corporate boards and executives who think it's OK to charge many- thousands-percentage mark-ups on their products and services so they can pay themselves and their stockholders 'our' money. The speculators are only a small part of the disease; Wall Street is comparatively young.
If Congressmen go back and give us a health care bill that is the just and fair perhaps we will have a real revolution. I am begging our congressmen to do the RIGHT THING . For once they need to vote on that basis of what is right, without any regard for whether or not they will be re-elected. They all know the RIGHT THING to do, but they only need the courage to do it. We need true leaders now more than ever.
YES Bernie!!! And don't stop at firing them: we need the money back! Why let them keep all of their ill-gotten gains? The theft is unacceptable, and our pacifism is scandalous.
Yes. Absolutely. Those are my thoughts exactly. Companies and corporations should be privately held, and get their direction internally. If they need financing for expansion (or what have you), they can get - *gasp* - loans, like the rest of us, instead of issuing publicly-traded stock.
And the Separation of Corporation and State should be instituted in the Constitution as an Amendment, then followed as carefully as the Separation of Church and State - it's just as important.
It's not just simply "the banks" but the entire and fraudulently misnomered "Federal Reserve Banking" system which has never been anything since its spawning in 1913 but a totally obscene swindle of the American people for nearly a century----the so called "federal reserve bank" is guilty of economic treason against the American people and should suffer what any other traitor has to face....beginning with Ben Bernanke and even going so far as to wipe out the entire Rothschild family.
wall street should be restricted to selling stocks and bonds like it was intended to do not all these made up speculation financial instruments..u should not be able to borrow money to buy stocks and bonds it should be a cash and carry business..the reason the first great depression happened was due to the stocks were all financed by loans with the stocks as collateral for the loans

Go tell your BS on the Hill or to the leftwing media nuts were the average person is psychotic enough to believe it.
jsruss1961 2 years ago
What leftwing media? Do you mean CNN which refuses to use the word "speculation" in describing the manipulation of the oil commodity market and has spent the last several weeks covering the "michael jackson" death. Or maybe your inferring to NBC Today show which showcased a story on "bad marriages". Yep, stuff right out of the Communist Manifesto. I think of conservatives everytime I get raped at the gas pump, pay $3.00 for 1/2 gallon OJ, and $400/month electric/gas bill. Thanks

Attacking the salaries of Wall Street executives that profit from the demise of America is like battling leprosy by squishing with a hammer, the gangrenous limbs that fall off of a leper. It might be satisfying, and it may feel good to be striking such a nasty abomination, but it sure isnt helping the leper.

i like sanders, but when people paint speculators as a bogeyman for the ills of society they really show their ignorance. if you want to decrease the impact of the boom/bust cycle, increase the margin requirements and/or the bank reserve requirement. all acts of investment are a form of speculation. speculators are necessary to create liquid markets.

The system of banking [is] a blot left in all our Constitutions, which, if not covered, will end in their destruction...

The compensation structure of the high-flying firms definitely needs to be revisited. It affects each of us because when the top "producers" or "executives" of these firms get $100 million dollars, that corporate expense is merely passed on down the line and the ultimate good or service is made more expensive to the consumers.

The ceos and bankers shouldn't just be fired, they should be prosecuted and thrown in jail for fraud.
But the real problem is the monetary system. We need to start over and focus on providing the basic needs of everyone, like food, water, energy, etc.
Check out zeitgeist and the resource economy.
If we cared about the environment and the threats we could fix both by implementing any of a number of the 'free energy' technologies available today.
Obama is another puppet. WAKE UP.
