  • It's more believable with actors/singers who are close or around the age of actual characters than those who might sound good vocally but would be a little too old to be believable. Regardless, this is a very good performance. Well done!

  • Oh my goodness, she's sensational. How utterly moving!

  • As a 25 year professional in theatre, I'd like to say this was an excellent performance.

  • She's good! What's her name?

  • Her anger and sadness and heartbreak and hope are all so palpable and her voice is beautiful. Maybe others will say I am crazy, but I like this performance better than Lea Salonga. I feel the song and the character here. I hope this young woman, who I guess must be approaching 18 now, can have a wonderful career in music.

  • We all know everyone has their own opinions about who should play who and who was better, but people should stop letting this get in the way of apprecaite fantastic performances!

  • THAT WAS EPICALLY AWESOME!!! Keep singing, I hope you become famous someday! ;)

  • Sie ist erst 14! Ich finde es toll

  • Everyone should stop talking bad about age, I think for her age this is astounding! I do theater as well, great job to her!

  • Try it when you're a little older and more experienced-this isn't the Good Ship Lollipop!

  • @Aerohog1 you know there was a girl who played Evita on Broadway when she was 15! do you think she realised Broadway wasnt the Good Ship Lollipop?

  • She's obviously not going to be perfect, but this is still amazing.

  • I LOVE you're interpretation. thanks!

  • YOUR PERFORMANCE WAS FANTASTIC.. boo to the people that disliked it. I teach all my vocal students music from this musical, it pushes them to really get out of their bubble and really to push it :)

  • I've just performed Eponine and this girl's portrayal was inspiring. She is an amazing performer especially considering how young young she is.

  • she is awfully good. How old is she now?

  • She has a fantastic voice.

  • Absolutely fantastic performance!

  • she's wonderful.

  • she obviously got this part because she deserved it vocally.

just some notes that are cut off are awkward because they are originally written to be held out.

She has a beautiful big voice

  • An amazing performance, i just saw this in London and oh my god, you have such a connection to this song!

  • Gorgeous voice! I love Eponine's character. You nailed it, girl! :D

  • I like the emotion.. tops.. was in the mood for Les Mis music so you pissed on all the professionals... yee ha to you girl.... one critique .. the split image took away from being.. alone, .. but kudos.. on another vid the split would be ok....

  • I wouldn't say she's better than salonga, they're both very different singers but this girl really captures the pain Eponine is feeling. Really well done, I enjoyed it

  • and way better than salonga. salonga makes me cringe. this girl is actually enjoyable to listen to.

  • the disgust in her voice is believable and yet she keeps it so pretty. great work!

  • This is absolutely brilliant. I've never seen/heard this song done with such anger (at herself and at him). I LOVE it.

  • @glukkan ugh, why is it that i can only put a "thumbs up" to this once....

i agree. hers is the best performance. she really captures the emotions, and i can understand/visualize the words as she acts them out, unlike with others who merely sing.

  • beautiful :)

  • her voice is so sweet

  • She captures the raw roughness of the character and the song. There is an uncontrived quality to this performance that all other Eponines have.

  • Who said she was fourteen? I say she's not so there/therefor. She sings about being on her own but if she is only 14 than she is not on her own. Her coat suggests that likes to be alone. Someone prove it!!

  • what are you talking about, its a school play so the likelyhood is that she is 14 and cos its a play then its part of the costume to wear a coat like that and she's singing that song cos its part of the play, so obviously shes got friends. honestly

  • Sorry, not very good. Good try at the song though =)

  • ...She got the lyrics wrong.

  • Where????

  • that was amazing! a little shouty at the end but still great. i loved it!

  • OMYGOD.... i have to do this at our play at school... and i'm really nervous... GAH! nothin' i'm just sharing... and REALLY GOOD JOB... :) 5 stars

  • pretty good for a 14 year old!

  • this is great! i love it and for her to be so young...omg. her facial expressions are great shes playing to the whole audience not just the front row. love love love!

  • sounds great, but she is over acting. Tone down the facial expressions!

  • @shinexxon this is the theatre. in a theatre those expressions would carry to the back row of the top level and be perfect. the only reason it looks a little over played is beacuse were watching it on film. this show, this song, this performance wasnt intended for film or screen. its for the stage. for which it is perfect. further more for a 14 year old girl this is amazing. the vocal and the emotion. many adults find this song hard!

  • Thank you, I realize that this is the theater. My comment comes from personal experience of playing Eponine before, as well as my college training in musical theater. She is great for a 14 year old at conveying her emotions, but really, what 14 year old could really understand the way Eponine feels?

  • @shinexxon Well watching this video obviously this fourteen year old is able to understand how eponine feels and she shows it through her emotion and character.

  • True that!

  • Great but not as good as lea

  • Puh-leez. Comparing a 14-year old girl in an amateur performance of Les Mis to a talented and seasoned Broadway performer like Lea Salonga is hardly fair. This young lady does an amazing job, but it is what it is. This isn't Broadway. It's like comparing a High School English project to Shakespeare.

  • @justtim Lea IS Eponine! No one can replace her amazing vocal talent!

  • @justtim I completely agree. I wish people would stop comparing.

  • of course not shes 14!!

  • Amazing... I love the tune of this song :)

  • You go girl!I'm auditioning for Eponine, too, in January.I have this song down and "A Little Fall of Rain".I'm just afraid I won't get it because I'm 13.

  • The best I've seen till now. The other interpretations scare me because the singers sing to strongly. This girl is subtle, yet expresses so much emotions. I loved it!

  • Woooooot?? This is great! As breathepilates said: "Well acted. Well sung. You captured my heart."

  • 2:14 gets me every time. This is simply incredible.

  • The emotion is everywhere! In the performances I've seen, it tends to be in either the face or the voice. Great Job! I just think the end could have been a little more drawn out-just the 'but only on my own' part, the rest was good.

  • nice.

  • That was very emotional. Much more moving than a lot of the 'professional' performances I've seen. Very well sung technically as well.

  • fantastic! but i would go a little faster. but great job! :D

  • That's not too young for a high school show. This girl was 14 when she did the role.

  • She is great! I want to play Eponine & when the tryouts are I will be 14 years old. Do you think that that is too young?

  • yeah same here, i wanna be Eponine and im gonna be 14. but idk if im gonna get it

  • Well acted. Well sung. You captured my heart. From a fellow Broadway player.

  • this was AMAZING!!!

    GOOD JOB!!!!!

  • This is pretty amazing for a 14-year-old!

I think the emotion you put into your work is just remarkable. Really well done. It was a very believable performance.

  • project a little more! But great acting!

  • That... was... INCREDIBLE! Seriously, I've seen the best of Broadway performers in this show, and that would stand up to just about anyone. You have a great future... stay humble and keep doing what you're doing.

  • Not if you do it properly and know how to belt..

Agreed if someone belts in the wrong way they can damge the vocal cords...but if they belt properly and safely it is perfectly safe.

  • wow shes a good actrress

  • She looks like a young Marcie Dodd!!!

  • This is beautiful,

And the acting quality is outstanding - really well done!

  • Pretty good, but her squeaky breathing when she was making it emotional ruined it for me.

  • Reminds me of Frances Ruffelles rendition

  • Wow man. =]

  • Some people and their cruelty amaze me. This girl is A: very pretty B: An EXCELLENT singer

her voice is as good as many professional singers who have done this at 14?

    Bravo!

  • she DOES sound 14

  • Woah She's got lungs for being 14! Jeez I can't sing it like that and I'm...an old fart. XD

  • shes 14?! her voice is soo good and mature for a 14 year old.

  • wow, this girl is gonna go far! xx

  • A weak character stance can wreck the whole thing. I wish I could be in this play. I think she should hold some of the notes longer.

  • Very good performance. Just get a new costume designer and you'll be all set. That jacket was unflattering to say the least.

  • In the story, Eponine (the girl singing) is supposed to be poor, which explains the costume:) I do agree that she did well:D she's got a good voice:]]

  • Also, Eponine is supposed to be ugly, hence the costume choice (most likely.) I mean, the girl is clearly pretty so they had to uglify her as best as possible.

  • Why do you say that Eponine is suposto be ugly?

  • Because in the book it clearly says "Eponine is an ugly girl." Her character is supposed to be physically unattractive. It's the reason Marius doesn't notice her.

  • Uhh. Excuse me for not reading the book yet.

  • I wasn't being snappy, sorry if it came off that way :/ You asked and I was trying to be informative :D

  • It's all good. Thanks. :)

english translation: She had blades of hay and straw in her hair, not like Ophelia, who was rendered mad by the insanity of Hamlet, but because she had been sleeping in some hayloft. And even so she was beautiful

  • Touché. I've never actually read the book but had read about it and heard that she was supposed to be especially unattractive. Thank you for spreading the truth :D

  • Thank you for your graceful reply. The book actually goes much further in describing how she looked before that passage. She is described as very thin and hollow with an otherworldly look, and with huge holes in her clothes and barefoot.... and yet with all this Marius sees her and sees that she is beautiful.

  • Brilliant. Goosbumps indeed I think that was an awsome rendition.

  • that was great!

  • very nice im doing this play in march I have the same part thanks for sharing

  • GOOSEBUMPS!

  • well done!

  • I'm very impressed! Well done!

  • Great job!

I'm being Eponine in Les Mis atm, and i got some great ideas from your performance!

    thanks heaps, well done.

  • I'm auditioning for eponine very soon - any tips?

  • firstly know that Eponine is a Mezzo-Soprano; extending to the G below middle C & as high as high C. She needs a good, strong belt. have good knowledge of the character & make sure u learn On My Own incase they want u to sing it. if u know the song u can blitz it. directors like it to be sung with minimal movement; the song can be stronger through words. for ANY audition dig deep in ur emotions to find a situation like Eponines to bring out the best in ur interpretation. hope i helped!

  • Exactly wat sing2710 said and i definateley agree with him/her that its better with "minimal movement" in this video she's wandering around the stage and it seems less real to me and as if she hasnt really got the character and he emotion

  • thanks muchly! :) I didn't get the part but... I'm only 16 and a 25 year old got it... and I'm in the chorus anyway so oh well! thanks for the tips though

  • shes wonderful!

  • oh my goddnes o.O

    that´s really really great !!

    i´m too 14 years old o.O

    i´m very impressed !!

  • wait i meant the next line she messed up on....

  • she messed up the first line. its

and now im all alone again nowhere to turn no one to go to.

I should know i was Eponine in Les Mis.

  • *pronounciation

  • lol guys, I know she has a good tone, but dont forget about announciation, no nasal, and breathing techniques. She could nail it if she had those 3 perfected.

  • wow, she gives the best performance of anyone I've seen so far. I'm not saying her vocals were the best, although they were great, but the emotion she exudes was wonderful.

  • LEA SALONGA AND KAHO SHIMADA BEST EPONINES EVER :) x thee song needs a more powerful, passionate voicee x

  • she's ok, but if you want real talent, see katie boeck sing it in the nipomo play of les mis. she's way better.

  • Overplayed, but talented

  • wow-what an unbelievable talent. She is heading to B'way, I can bet on it!

  • she is amazing

  • Great^^

  • better than lea salonga haha. no frances but hey, she is 14.

  • very nice

  • Oh,nice version,beautifoul singing, excellent acting!

  • excellent job

  • nice voice & she's still very young. hers is a clear & clean voice, just like lea salonga. better than ms ruffelle in fact.good luck to her!

  • i don't know...she was good, but i guess i'm not as impressed by the age, because i'm 13 and i was recently in les mis:school edition. we had a lack in talented boys, so i played enjolras! lol, but our eponine was only 14 and she was able to act amazingly without seeming too over the top and her vocals brought the house down. she didn't even sound young! not saying that this girls isn't good, because she is great. i just think she sacrificed her singing for the acting in parts of the song.

  • GREAT! except "found me" made me laugh :] best so far though

  • how?

  • Wow! Amazing chest voice. The only thing I can say I didnt LOVE about this performance was the anger towards the end of the song.. It seems to me it should be more.. sorrow and bitterness, not rage. But still, oh my God! 14! SO GOOD!

  • its the best english version of eponine

  • shes ok ...

  • her voice will mature and sound really awsome!

  • very nice belt and a lot of nice actinv choices. the one thing i didnt like was the intensity of the "st" and "str" sounds like in strangers. it kind of messed up the flow of the song.

    but overall absolutely lovely job

  • my god

    you gave me chills

    amazing!

  • Love the way you sing the song. You put the proper amount of emotion in this song without being overly dramatic. You have more talent than half of the singers in my school put together.

  • Wow! I'm really envious of her acting and chest voice.

  • Wow, amazing stuff. She is only going to get better, and hopefully she succeeds.

  • She's incredible. She's only fourteen? No way! She has better technique than many seventeen year olds, and many adults. This is amazing!

  • yeaaa she's incredible, love to hear her voice.. you should hear Julia Abueva sang this song.. she's doing Lea Salonga's version of the song and she's just 12 years old when she sang this song.. hehe".. ^^

  • 14?! Wow, well done!!

  • pretty good. but the beginning sounded a little too young.

  • she is VERY good. you have to hear the girl who's in the cast i'm playing for now. she's only 12 and she could easily be on broadway. its crazy how girls get so good so fast. lol.

  • Wonderfull, truily a talent

  • You're amazing, i hope that you have musical ambitions because it would be a shame if you wanted to go and study economics or what when you have a talent like this!

  • THIS IS KIND OF AMAZING

  • very good....someone went nuts with the cymbals near the end though..

  • Very very good! Both the singing and acting - impressive!

  • What an accomplishment for a 14 y/o to singing this song. She has a very strong voice. Very good!

  • fantastic voice! great belt, particularly for a 14 yr old. she's got to learn not to sacrifice the vocal for the acting though.

  • Amazing acting for a 14 year old. Most parts are stronger than many of the pros acting.

  • i see a another Lea growing up! 5* :) good job!

  • wow very good

  • AMAZING!

  • remainds me of lea salonga( my fave eponine!)

  • Well Done amazing belt notes ! Beautiful ma

all i can say is great job

    great emotion

  • pretty good!---a little young, but i guess it works, im not a fan of the annoying voice, but this one didnt bug me!!!! keep it up!

  • Vocally, for the most part it really wasn't that bad. Your belts probably needed a bit more support to them, as they sounded a bit strained and out of your range. For the first half of the song, your acting was really good, but during the second half, it seemed a bit forced.

  • an amazing performance for a 14-year old!

  • Wow, amazing emotion. You really look heartbroken. A great Eponine with a good voice for the role. :)

  • very sweet. i liked it, very good, especially for a 14 year old! she messed up the lyrics a bit, but that's ok, she didn't let it show.
