well, you have to block the sun disk if you want to see something in the surroundings, the sun is too bright! Solar telescopes have a ' black disk' in the middle, the coronagraph, that allows you to watch the solar flares, corona of the sun and other objects in the vicinity.

I don't remember what it is called, but there is an aperture cap blocking out the sun. All you can see is the corona and Jupiter.

It's the filter thats giving the colour.

The filter cuts out the wavelengths/frequencies, that are not wanting to be seen, I think this is in UV light, not sure the wavelength think it's around 9.5nm.

The sun will look totaly different depending on what frequency one is using, different phenomina will be observed.
