yes you can use 2 GC controllers, you just change the controller type in game i think, or just use gamecube controllers once u get in game (the menu) i havent played it yet but i do know you can use GC controllers

Well, 2P can pick a character when there are 3 or more characters to choose from. That I'm sure of, but when there's only one or two characters to choose from, I'm guessing that ONLY player 1 can decide which character(s) they are.
