  • great job!!! very helpful.

  • shit, i clicked expertvillage

  • Yes! 5 years late on seeing this. I hope you're still kick'n. Thank you. I'll be checking out your other postings. Now to follow your advice.

  • Guys i am going to start playing harmonica!!! i am going to buy one but i dont know how much should i spent??? i need help !!!! S.O.S. i would appreciate it if you could HELP!!!

  • @markos96netfight

I've been playing 50 years. I have 100+ harps. You can start out with a Hohner Cross Harp but you'll get discouraged. Great harp but not for a novice.

A Chicago Blues is $4 but great back pressure and decent sound. Truth is, a good player can make a $5 Johnson Blues King sound like a $100 Suzuki Fire Breath. The more you enjoy playing, the better you'll become and the more comfortable you are with your own instrument, the more you'll enjoy playing

  • @bornfree47 Thank you very much!!! i really appreciate your advices!!!

  • thanks a lot i'll try it

    Φ

  • but how do u play that

  • Just wanted to day thanks...that is nice and basic for a beginner to get the feel for improv...

  • Awesome...Short...cool.....

  • Omg thank you so much! ^^ It isn't that hard at all. And it's sounds sooo much better compared to the same rhythm but without the shuffles. Amazing!

  • what are the riffs?

  • @Chia3633 the riffs are on the 2 and 3 hole (you can also do a 1-2-3 chord that sounds nice, but I don't hear the one hole here) and its just "blow blow, draw draw, blow blow, draw draw, blow blow, draw blow" and each note is an eight note with emphasis on the downbeat. And the key is C, also.

  • @XTimes3GreaterThanU ... thanks that helped me out a lot more then this video did ... this dumbass makes a "how to video" , and forgets to put the "how to" in it ... lol

  • what key dickface??...everyone just check out gindick, dan gage, jason ricci, and heaps of others out there, i've watched this dude heaps of times and he never really say's much unless you buy his stuff.

  • u play very well :P

  • All included in here is playing chords, synchopation, switching the chords to single notes and back, bending the draws, and inflection... There are at least five lessons in this, yet to Expert village it is only one. People, go over to Adam Gussow's vids, and for this stuff start on number seven

  • @XTimes3GreaterThanU thans dude, this is more what im looking for

  • WOW! Awesome! teach me! haha

  • I´d say this is advanced begineers stuff.

  • Has anybody tried to play metal on a harmonica yet? I.e. One by Metallica would sound fucking awesome

  • You know, that would be fucking awesome =)

I hate the fact 7 people gave you a thumbs down simply because you think outside the box when it comes to music. In today's world, creativity REALLY IS all but dead.

  • Aww man my comment was deleted :( I actually can't remember what I said as well...

  • @runemonk1 so true

  • haha im not much of a mteal fan actully i dont liek it at all bnut thta would be cool

  • Thank you so much

  • thanks for the great lesson!

  • lol looks like he just took a huge bong hit

  • all you experts who have born with an harmonica up in your asses should see expert lessons, this is for begginers.. so shut the fuck up.

  • why don't you haters make some lessons then?

  • Wow, I had no idea that insecure, mean spirited harmonica players out there. You guys make the rest of us look bad!

I like these "lessons", Thanks for taking the time to put them together for the rest of us.

  • Thanks man great help!

  • lmfao i love how everyones a dick to this guy just trying to help others learn

    thanks assholes :D

  • Thanks, Jim--now I know what a retarded jackass sounds like, but how do you play a shuffle?

  • I wouldn't call these lessons.

  • he's playin usin a D harp. Just hootin around the 1,2,3, holes.

  • ok , i agree with EVERYONE, you suck dude, and all the newbies here, shut the fuck up, if you knew how to play you would get the notes right on, most of us plays out of the box harmonicas, i do too , they sound great , if you have EARS!

  • rhythmically challenged, thanks

  • wow. i learned absolutely nothing from this. thanks jerk

  • Goos stuff, thanks alot, what key harmonica are you playing in

  • This was pretty much the worst teaching iv'e ever seen...

  • What key is your harp in?

  • Excuse me anon540 would you mind engaging your brain before you write. The harps are brand new 7 different keys and in a box (the best bit)I paid 47pounds for them. I had to take them apart and tune them all to get them to play all of the notes. I would not dream of buying used. I also have an excellent blues band Hohner but I had to fiddle with the reeds on the high end to get it to play properly. I'm not knocking the brand I still say buy a Seydel 1847 silver and compare.

  • If your buying harmonica be very careful of Hohner they make some real crap instruments. Just bought a set of seven of off e-bay most of them are unplayable and have to be taken apart and fixed before you can even muster a tune.

  • lol yea well ive had mine for about a good 8 years now without any problems, but since i just started playing again, ill keep my eyes open. Thanks for the warning :)

  • i just bought my first one yesterday and its honer :(... i hope that not bad i mean it was pretty cheap like 18 dollers.. but i hope its enough to get started

  • He's full of shit. Don't ever buy a used harmonica, that's the dumbest thing you could do. As long as you get a decent Hohner they're some of the best ones you can get.

  • What are you a fucking halfwit? Why would you buy a used harmonica? Not only are you putting that in your mouth, but they wear out over time. You got what you should have expected. Minus the high risk of illness.

  • no teaching going on.

  • what's the point of that your not really teaching us i recomend pazzanmusic he is awesome, he tells you the actual riffs and how to play them

  • sorry i mis spelt that so the channel name is pazzmanmusic

  • muy buena!!!quiero aprender!!!!...

    :Dbco. ﺱªи©ªяﻯ●ﺎ )™ ¨'°º๐иﻔﺎиع ™O.o°••-)•--------

  • How about at least informing the public that you are on a key of d harp

  • He shouldnt be on expert village because they actually teach you stuff on there. Adam Gussow is 100 times more informative, better and nicer!!!

  • you are not a teacher just a cocky show off.

  • IF you leason to how it sounds then you know when to draw like at first his lips r at 1-3 and 1-4 blow draw blow draw

  • The reason he dont tell you much is they want you to buy lessons...

  • You don't tell anyone how to do anything! Numbers? Blow? Draw?

  • he makes it look so easy *glares*

  • hohner is a company, a harp slang for a harmonica

    every harmonica has reeds

the key is written on it... he's likely playing a C

  • someone give me a quick harmonica lesson like how do i know what key its in how do i know if it has reeds and whats the difference between a harp and a hohner

  • wow! I like that!!

I am teaching myself how to play!

thanks for sharing!! I love the blues sound!!

  • The Special 20 and the Big River is the one I found to hold up the most years and tone too. Plastic sounds different than wood.Wood holds moisture.

  • im lookin to buy a new harmonica as myne is shit which is the best one to buy?

  • a honer marine band is good in the key of c

  • Damn, all i have is a C harp.... that sounds like D or G or something

  • Its an A.

  • thanks

  • And is A the standard blues key for a harmonica? or what else is?

  • D minor

  • Thanks!

  • You can play blues in any key you want, most people start with C to learn on. If you want to play with a guitarist, you'll have to adjust to what key they are playing in. If they play in G, count backwards 5 keys then you must play in C known as 2nd position or cross harp. So eventually you'll need a collection of harmonicas in different keys to keep up.

  • I know but i grew tired of my C harp. I don't like its sound so I'll go get a collection of harmonicas starting with D minor, etc....

  • D minor isn't a key of a harp. It's a key you can play in on a C harp or an F harp

  • You can do alot of great music with your C harp, dont stress it.

  • Holly Turd!!

    THAT WAS WESOME!!!!!

    5/5!!

  • what key is this in?

  • sounds like A

  • What holes does he play?

  • don't know

  • what kind of harp does he have?

  • wowowowow esse cara é o cara, toco violao, viola caipira, teclado, um cadinho de bateria e toda vida tive medo de gaita, mas agora me decidi em aprender e vou o cara é demais!!!!

  • damn the first time he talks i todd he is blind and don know hw to play,UNTIL!!!When he say OK THIS IS THE BLUES SHUFFLE.....and that is when i froze!!!*_*

  • damn the second breath in is hard... maybe cuz im a noob? or just not trying hard enough but it comes out slower than this dude

  • its a d harp 12d 12d 12b 12b

  • Do some1 now a real cool and very very simple blues or boggie song for a " D " Harmonica ??

  • 3-4-(3)-3

    4-4-(3)-4

    3-(3)-4-(4)

  • the main shuffle bit hes playin is:

    4b 4b 4d 4d

it sounds like it to me

  • How about breaking it down a little, what key is the harp? Which holes are you playing?? Or do I have to pay the website money for a really lesson?

  • Which tone are you playing?

  • i think its the area around hole 3

  • You all are noobs. =P This is simply my guidelines since I have no idea on what I can practice for the blue stretch. I've been playing around with my fathers blues hohner for sometime now, and seeing these "guidelines" was lovely.

  • good lesson thanks - its good to know guys like you are out there

  • There are lots of great DVD's out there. I get 'em off of netflix. I watch 'em milk 'em for what I want to know and then move on to the next one.

  • Well done lesson.

PS I also own a mexican 520DX that most people would simply call a Green Bullet. This is one of several blues harp specific mics I own. And I think anyone with any real knowledge would say that tone comes from you, not from equipment. Bizarre that someone had to use ownership of a mic as a put down. Again, nicely done lesson Jim.

    Jay

  • I just recently started to play the harmonica and I could use some VERY simple beginner lessons(im talking starting from scrach with no musical talent at all). Anyone know where or what i can do to get started?

  • For someone just learning I dont think so. Especially if you are new and have no one else to explain it, he does a very good job. Leave the critisisms at the door. This helped me.

  • you have so many lessons, i am a complete begginer and i dunno where to start? could you help me?

  • if you look at the username it says expertvillage which is a website. so this man on the screen cant help you because its the website that has the account and if you look at the page its got more than just harmonica its experts on everything. so my advice is to find an independant harmonica player.

  • I wish I could "understand" it. I mean, when he doesn't like say the number of the hole. Anyone who can help me ? I learned "Love me do" by listening and some of "Pink". But I can't really move on with it. Hehe can someone explain :D

  • Ah im so glad i found YOU...ive been trying for a long time on my own and still i sound shithouse...thanks for all your lessons...

  • fantastic Jim thank you for doing this...this was my first ever harmonica lesson and I got it off after 3 hours due to you

    cheers

  • wonderful thank you

  • Great video

  • I like your video clip and have rated it as awesome. Please check out my clips of me playing my jaw harp.

  • does he use a C note?

  • I think so, I have one (C) and it matches the same notes.

  • Lovin' your vids!

  • unholygod

  • hi can anyone please tell me which holes jim is using for the shuffle? Enjoy!!!!!!!!

  • if you learn the Blues scale (a five note scale. documentation easily found online for this) you can pop in an out of the shuffle into any note on the scale and it will sound cool. This is a fun way to learn how to improvise

  • Big thanks for the help Animytor that info is really useful to me, do you have any more tips for rythms or beats, which i am struggling with? hope all is cool with you kiwis!!! thanks again!

  • hey, i really wanna learn the blues harp, i'm just starting out, and have bought myself an "E" and a "C" harmonica, i've been playin g blues and slide guitar for around 6-7 years now, and i'm no slouch, but i've always wanted to learn the harp, PLEASE HELP!!

  • I think the blues scale is a 6 note scale if you include the root (the blues note makes it different from the minor pentatonic scale) anyways, how do you play this scale on a diatonic harp? I've been trying but can't figure it out.

  • if you want to play the blues scale on a diatonic harmonica , you have to use the harmonica in the second position, that means you use a C harmonica to play a blues song in the key of G , and you'll have to learn to bend .For more information do a Google search for "second position harmonica"

  • wow thats f'n amazing!!!!!! awesome sound!

  • Rox!!
