Shut up you stupid communist. It's easy to hail leaders of other countries, after all, YOU didn't have to live by their rules, eh? Stalin, Lenin and all leaders of the USSR (except Gorbachev) were a bunch of fucks. Not only them: all communist leaders, no exceptions, are fuckheads, including Che Guevara, world's biggest loser ever.
I think the reason is that the Kazakhs who loved the USSR saw Soviet successes as their successes as well, while most of the Kazakhs who hated the USSR saw the conflict not as "us against the Russians", but as "us against the Soviet state". After all, ordinary Russians were oppressed just as much (except for the language issue), while Kunayev was in Brezhnev's inner circle.
As for oil, Russia has plenty of its own oil, so I would not say that it is rich now because of Kazakh oil. Besides,
(continued) even in the Soviet times Kazakhstan was not the main source of Soviet oil, most of it was mined in Azerbaijan and Western Siberia. I guess the Soviet government can be blamed for leaving the Kazakh oil industry relatively underdeveloped until the 1990s.

Famines, hard labour prison camps, purges, mass arrests, the destruction of the Aral Sea, nuclear fallout from the Semipalatinsk test site, the marginalisation of the Kazakh language and utter disregard for property rights - aye, that was "decent well" indeed!

Well, for instance, the freedom of the market is quite high in KZ, if compared to other post-Soviet states, with the exception of Estonia. And also, the native Kazakh culture was allowed to develop after the break-up of the USSR, since in the Soviet times the Kazakh language was actually a minority language in KZ. The current political system of KZ is definitely not perfect, but the examples of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan show that it could have been a lot worse.
Hm, i don`t know alot about that countries, but Estonia got not much different economy that for example Lithuania or Latvia (with other results), Georgia is developing quite fast too now. As for culture and freedom it`s good to hear it, but i`m lacking knowladge about KZ, so i must trust in your words that everything`s ok. But i always thought that you`r hardly rusyfied.
I feel only bad that we cannot build pipeline for Kazakh gas becouse of Russia.
Anyway, wish you all the best. I`v watched Kazakh games in Euro qualifications and i must say that your team is getting better, i was really suprised watching your play.
Actually, I am not Kazakh. I am Russian, but I lived in KZ for a while. And I did not even have to learn to speak Kazakh at all (but I did take classes anyway). As a consequence of the Soviet regime in most cities in KZ Russian is more widely spoken than Kazakh. KZ was one of the most highly russified Soviet republics - in the seventies Kazakhs were actually a minority in their own country, so Kazakh language education nearly died out back then. Its restoration was definitely an improvement.
Terryfieing... i mean, i don`t have anything special against Russians or Russian culture, but it`s worlds biggest country and its culture isn`t in danger. Even if i don`t know it, i`m sure that Kazakh culture should be preserved, just becouse it`s makeing world RICHER. Every country/nation should be proud of its heritage/tradition and protect it. World cannot became "global village" representing just one "culture" of McDonald or whatever else.
I agree with you that every country/nation should be proud of its heritage/tradition and protect it. But don't you think that if a country is comprised of several nations , the main language and culture will take over others.
Take the instance of my country,India.Hindi is the main language here. But I am from West Bengal and our mother tongue is Bengali.
Yes, it was the case in many places, but whta if that language is not your, but your neighbor? The case of India, you mentioned here, can be compared to Germany with its general "Hohdeutsch" and various dialects/languages in the diffrent "bundes-lands". But i guess in India it`s more complex, i mean the differences are bigger, correct me if i`m wrong, but India was usually divided into many Rajastans.
You are right , mikolajoskierko . India is divided into many states many of which can claim to be a separate nation, if the individuality of mother-tongues and cultures are considered. Among all the states , only 4/5 north-indian states share the same mother-tongue , Hindi which is the single most widely spoken language due to this being the mother-tongue of the people of 4/5 states. Rest of the states have their own unique mother-tongue and associated cultures.
Like Bengali is the mother-tongue of our state,West Bengal.(This is the mother-tongue of the independent country Bangladesh also since after 1947 our state got splitted into two parts.Bengali Hindus got West Bengal that became a part of India and Bengali Muslims got Bangladesh which became a part of Pakistan(history of useless bloodshed between two communities which share the same mother-tongue and associated literary tradition) and later Bangladesh became an independent country(a diff story)
The reason Bangladesh became an independent country is the same one as I said. Pakistan is also comprised of several languages each having its own individuaity (not dialects). Being majority in the political arena,Urdu-speaking people tried to suppress Bengali language and culture that resulted into violent revolution and the independence of Bangladesh. This is also commemorated through International Mother Tongue Day which every Bengali, from both the parts is proud of .
I know little bit about that, Pakistan and Bangladesh separatism is more or less becouse of religion, same goes for Kashmir issue. India is much complex, a sub-continent, but i think it`s more a thing you can be proud of, i mean the rich culture and history. I guess that not many people wants to ruin it and divide India, despite the latest incidents in Assam, it`s not as usuall as it could be.
mikolajoskierko , I really admire how you wander from the days of Herodotus to the present day incident of Assam.Pakistan separatism is because of religion. But Bangladesh got separated from Pakistan because of Nationalism. This is little bit off-topic and I really don't want to ruin the integrity of India but I compared the Russian influence on Kazakhstan with the Hindi influence on other nations in India since (continued)
with USSR divided into many parts, the small parts are not as powerful as once USSR was. Likewise,as you said,if India is splitted into many parts, the power of the small parts won't be close to that of united India.Yeah,in a multilingual and multiethnic country like India and previous USSR,with each state having its own culture and language, its really hard to make a choice between protecting the culture, language and protecting the power of unity. All we can hope is that it shouldn't lead to a war.
One other thing is,yes,British was the first ruler to unite the entire region known as India.Paradoxically it was an advantage to the united India.Otherwise,India still could have been identified as a geographical region similar to today's Scandinavia.
The Reason behind me saying all these is just to explain the vast differences between the the languages in this Indian subcontinent. Indian government is much more tolerant than their Pakistani counterpart. , Even though Hindi speaking people are majority in the political arena , they never tried to suppress the mother tongues forcefully as it was done by Pakistanis.
But,Hindi being the main language of the country,I see in my state, more and more Bengali school-going children are taking Hindi/English combination as the first/second language. If there is any choice of a third language , they are taking Bengali, their own mother-tongue. Not only this, there are other signs also showing that down the line, the Hindi langauge and culture playing the major role in India will take over ours.
May be this url is not the page to discuss all these things related to the part of Asia I am taking about. Moreover, don't take as somebody who wants to harm the integrity of India. But,yeah, sometimes it worries me and makes me think that the fate of a country having multiple languages each having its own originality and associated culture can take two ways - either the language of the majority will take over others or the country will get splitted into different parts.
One other thing is I am not fully aware of German language. Germany has different dialects or languages ? I mean is it comprised of different languages that can claim its own heritage and literary tradition and associated culture? So far I knew that German is the only language of Germany. But yeah once I read that Germany was earlier divided into different parts which were united by a German King from a German region called Prussia(I forgot the king's name)
you see, sometimes it`s hard to distinguise the difference between what`s a dialect and where starts another language, but i`m sure that the differeces between German dialects/languages are nothing to be compared with those on the Indian penisula. Just take a look on the history of Germany, there were many different states, each with its own politics, traditions and than also dialecs/languages, not to mention the religious differences. Common German is "Hohdeutsch".
I supose it`s a little bit off-topic and i don`t know what thinks about our conversation the owner of this video.
Anyway, it`s simple that united India is a powerful state and if it will split into many small states, none of them will be close to that. You need to decide for your own, i only wish that it will not lead to another wars.
It might be not good for the cultural diversity and richness of languages in the sub-continent, but can be good for whole India. I told you, such process was ongoing in Germany since XIXc, after unification as a state, they nedded unification of languages, cultures and even religion (kulturkampf), which caused many troubles. At lest it`s not forced, i wish that there can work many languages and the common one (for example Hindi), it`s not so hard to know more than one language.
Ok, i understand, but it all started from me speaking about Kazakhstan and the Russian influence on it, not only political, but especially cultural (language). The case of India can be compared, if not the fact that Hindi is Indian language (one of many), not the foreign one. Similar cases are, like i`ve said, Grmany and especially Spain, where works many separatist groups, including terrorist ones (ETA).
I was reading recently a book of Ryszard Kapuściński "Travels with Herodotus" and he wrote from his trip to India that there are even "language wars", is it true? So i guess that the British domination period paradoxally had at least one advantage, united Indian penisula.
70 years of oppression. Red Plague, nothing under and nothing above... It's hard to believe that qazaq people are still alive. During these 70 years qazaqs became a minority in their own country, they served as a meatshield in WW2, they saw 500 nuclear explosions, they saw agony of Aral Sea, they saw Baikonur with rockets spreading poisoneus fuel on hundreds km's around. What a lovely country we were living in...
Great Great!!! The former Kazakh anthem in the background. This reminds me to the soviet technology and Baikonur, one of the more famous spots in this enormous country.

Indian government is much more tolerant than their Pakistani counterpart. , Even though Hindi speaking people are majority in the political arena , they never tried to suppress the mother tongues forcefully as it was done by Pakistanis.
anirbanganguly 3 years ago

But yeah once I read that Germany was earlier divided into different parts which were united by a German King from a German region called Prussia(I forgot the king's name)
anirbanganguly 3 years ago
you see, sometimes it`s hard to distinguise the difference between what`s a dialect and where starts another language, but i`m sure that the differeces between German dialects/languages are nothing to be compared with those on the Indian penisula.

At lest it`s not forced, i wish that there can work many languages and the common one (for example Hindi), it`s not so hard to know more than one language.
mikolajoskierko 3 years ago
Ok, i understand, but it all started from me speaking about Kazakhstan and the Russian influence on it, not only political, but especially cultural (language). The case of India can be compared, if not the fact that Hindi is Indian language (one of many), not the foreign one. Similar cases are, like i`ve said, Grmany and especially Spain, where works many separatist groups, including terrorist ones (ETA).

I was reading recently a book of Ryszard Kapuściński "Travels with Herodotus" and he wrote from his trip to India that there are even "language wars", is it true? So i guess that the British domination period paradoxally had at least one advantage, united Indian penisula.
mikolajoskierko 3 years ago
I agree with you that every country/nation should be proud of its heritage/tradition and protect it. But don't you think that if a country is comprised of several nations , the main language and culture will take over others.
Take the instance of my country,India.Hindi is the main language here. But I am from West Bengal and our mother tongue is Bengali.
