who are the time lords?? are the aliens? a special race of people? or is it a term used in the show to describe the people who have traveled through time?

@topher87090 - both. There are different actors who play the Doctor, and each actor represents a different 'version' if you will of the Doctor, thanks to the Time Lords ability to regenerate.

Patrick Troughton's one of my favorite Doctors too, however I don't rank them. To me I might have put The Mind Robber up there in the recommendations even though it's trippy and very different from standard Who. I still think if people want to see good stuff from that era they should see that, just to see the show outside of it's normal element from the time. It also demonstrates the flexibility of the show.

One explanation I heard about the missing episodes is that the BBC thought that it was more economically sound to overwrite the old tapes with new shows instead of having to buy new tapes.

@topher87090 - No, the Time Lords are a race of aliens. The Doctor is a Time Lord, sorta like how Warf is a Klingon.
