i have a question about NES systems if i repair i mine or any other gamers and gamer girls if i open mine or theirs up like you said what if the motherboard is rusted out. Do i need to replace the whole thing or try and find a replacement to replace the motherboard? I ask because my NES motherboard is all rusted out that's why i ask should i replace the whole thing or try and find a replacement motherboard.
Hey, I bought a NES a couple months back that, while it works, it doesn't load up right away. Normally I get a black blinking screen and can sometimes hear the sound. And even when it does finally work, the game has a bunch of dots on it. Is this a bad 72-pin connector or what? Just curious if you know before I go out and either buy this kit or buy a new NES all together. Thanks.
I've got a problem with my NES, but this didn't give me the answer.
I use as tv: xiron, model: 2007 LCD, if that matter something.
Also my adaptor was replaced and working.
My NES shows it's on and I have no flickering light or such.
My tv screen only shows a black screen, no response at all...
I tried cleaning the games and console, but doesn't work either, and stupid little tricks that the game isn't well connected to the NES is unlikely to help.
@fatalheromaster Maybe the A/V cords or RF switch is messed up. Try replacing one of those or use the other. If it still doesn't work, please don't be a hater on me.
@fatalheromaster That is one way to check it. You might need to check your audio/video cable if properly hook up or needs to be replace. Have you tried replacing the 72pin connector? replacing this part will help remove the blinking problem. Anyway, we offer repair for this kind of problem. Just visit our website for more details.
@fatalheromaster hi, if you're using an RF apdaptor, it goes in where you TV a erial lead goes in. you need to go into your TV's menu and selct aerial tuning or something and selct manual tune or manual search or whatever. make sure you NES is on and start the manual search, your TV will now go through different frequences and when it stops your NES game should start. now ehn playing your NES go to the same channel as you had it on now. (alos make sure you have a game in the NES :p)
i tried just wiping down my nes and everything and before it was a glitchy pixalated version of super mario bros 3 but now its just a blank beige screen... did i mess something up or is it time for a new 72 bit connector?? :\
I cleaned my connector as shown, but the game will play one moment and the next it won't. Is it time for a new pin connector or is there something else I have to do? Thanks.
@L337Force92 It needs cleaning and it might need replacement of rubber pads or buttons or the cord. We accept NES controller repair services. Just visit our website for more info. I hope we can help you out.
I have got the blinking problem I bought a new 72 pin connector cleaned all the contacts around the connector throughly so that when I wipe it with a cotton bud there is no dirt at all yet the problem is still there is there any tips you can give that can get my NES up and running?
@KyriAnsell1 You can try to press the game into the connector firmly and push it over to the right slightly and see if that works. Also try to press the game up and down 10 times before trying to play it. These are efforts that are needed to wear in a new connector.
Is it absolutely necessary to push down the games just for them to work or is that just optional? I remember during my childhood i had a friend that had an NES that didn't push down and it still played correctly
I recently got an NES with a new 72 connecter installed, it was working great until one of the games I got seemed to not fit in very well, when I managed to pull it out all the other games are working but everything is scrambled! Tried cleaning the connecter but still same problem :(
@nash1350 Did you clean the mother board connectors? If the motherboard connections have become corroded then that would need to be cleaned as well. Dirty games will cause the same issues as well. You can use the game cleaning kit available on our website in the description to do all of this.
I got a game called Fantastic Adventures of Dizzy and the screen Shakes? It is very odd. The screen shakes and rattles. At some points for about 20 seconds it looks fine. Then it starts shaking again. Then goes normal again. No other game i have does that. Only that game. I got anouther Dizzy game and it does the same thing. So its not the games for say. Anyone have any ideas?
*** You don't need to buy a kit.*** You can manually bend the pins in 72pin connector with a small screw driver and clean the games with alcohol and cotton swabs. It takes some time and you need good lighting but its $FREE.99
The truth is, the reason the 72 pin connector goes bad is because it's poorly designed. You have to push the game down to put it into the system, right? Well, when you push down the game, sometimes the pins get bent slightly upwards, and makes a poor connection, if they connect at all. The result? Those goddamn blinking lights. You may be able to replace your 72 pin connector, but it will just break again.
isnt there a chip that is installed im american nes's to prevent the nes from playing foreign games that needs to be snapped. I say it needs to be snapped off because sometimes I believe it gets worn out and has trouble telling if your playing am american version of a game or a foreign game and doesnt allow you to play at all hense the screen begins to flash or a random color will appear?
@THEMIGHTYNOOB45 I'm pretty sure that won't happen. Plus, even if it did wear out, I'm sure that's not what happens when the lockout chip blocks a game. But feel free to cut off pin #4 (going left to right) on the lockout chip in the NES. The lockout chip is the one that has the copyright symbol and year on it. It also has Nintendo next to the copyright stuff. With that out, you can play foreign games and shit, but I highly doubt that it will fix your problems.
@KindomOfHappiness i didnt fix my nes a friend of my mine who knew how to repair them told me about that chip he said he removed mine but also the teeth were worn out, so you may be right but i just didnt know if the chip highly affected the nes.
i have different problem.. have already replaced connector .. but when i plug in the controller to port 1 .. the games start bythemself.. and i cannot play the nes.. any ideas whats wrong with it ?
My Nintendo gives me plain static. Is it just the 72 pins or is it that piece of the wire that connects to the TV that broke off that is causing this? (Which also forces me to use the Red White and Yellow connectors)

@andrewmatismfilms Fantastic! Thanks for leaving us feedback. Feel free to visit our website to leave feedback or type in nintendo repair shop reseller ratings, and leave us feedback there.
@shippou18 Yes it is. Here is the breakdown. The NES gives two basic symptoms which are supposed to tell you what is wrong with it. 1) flashing light/screen = the 72 pin connector is loose; 2) solid colored screen = there is something disrupting the connection between your games and system (almost always dirt and grime built up on your NES games). Visit our website for more details on the products you need to order.

hey i actually have a question for you i have been working on nintendos and collecting them for years in many of my nes's i have just restored the 72 pin connector but in one of them i decided to replace it so i bought one from ebay installed it and all but it will only play the game properly if i dont push it down is that because the 72 pin connector is still very new and doesnt need to be pushed down to make good contact or is it just a shitty 72 pin connector
@stingraycollector16 Just a bad 72 pin connector. We have been in this business exclusively for 8 years now, and have tested every 72 pin connector that has been produced. We have settled on one that works about 95% of the time (most others are around 70% effective). It costs us a little more, but hey we make up for that with fewer returns and happier customers that come back to our store. You will be fine with that 72 pin connector after a while, but it will likely wear out faster.
My NES has been working for years but all of a sudden its started acting up. I was playing an nes game it was working fine but then like when I got towards the end of the game it just completly frozed on me and when I tried another game it did the exact same thing. What would be the cause of that?
@steubenvillwrestling This sounds like an overheating problem to me. Try opening up the system and cleaning out any mothballs that are in there. Also, keep it away from things, and on a raised surface while playing.
@soisyourface1234 This is one of two very common symptoms. This is actually a built-in response that means the system does not recognize that a game is inserted. Try it without a game and you will see it is the same response. This means that your 72 pin connector pins are not making proper contact, and typically needs to be replaced although if you are using an extremely dirty game this could also cause this symptom.
I bought a non-working NES from my friend, followed a similar video with similar steps, and it works with a wedge-like object shoved into the door of the console. Any suggestions of what I could do to properly assess this issue?
@mongovi This is a common, albeit temporary solution. This "fix" presses the game further down against the metal contacts of the 72 pin connector. While this does work for a short period of time, eventually you will just bend the pins even further back and it will stop working all together. The ultimate solution is described in our video and on our website. Check us out. We have all the items and free guides you will need on Nintendo Repair Shop dot com
@jpdizzle7654 Nope. We are the uploader. We being The Nintendo Repair Shop Inc. Keep posting questions and we will do our best to respond in short order. If you have pressing issues contact us via our website and we will respond within 24 hours.
Weird thing: My NES' screws are suddenly very hard to screw in and part of the front of the bottom casing has warped inwards (under the game cartridge lid) further and further.
It's got the point where I can't screw in 2 of the screws for the metal plate and I also have to put the top casing on without screwing, with a bit of it sticking out (due to the bottom's inward warping).
Anyone else encountered this strange-to-infuriating phenomenon?
@Oscy Yes, in general you have to make sure everything is flush from the motherboard to the game tray, and even the metal rf shield. I would start out by taking everything back apart, and make sure you have lined everything up properly. Pay special attention to getting the plastic lip on the bottom/front of the game tray underneath the motherboard. If you don't it can stick up and cause issues.
@nintendorepair Hmm, the only thing that seems to go underneath the motherboard is part of the connector. Even so, it isn't the game tray because even when I click it down, so it doesn't hypothetically push the tray up, fit the metal shield + top of the NES case on (no screws), it still seems like something is pushing the top half up.
I'm not sure if the metal shield exasperates the problem a little, but w/out it it seems the inward warping mentioned earlier makes it all impossible to fit.
@Oscy Ok, you may be in a situation where the top or bottom portion of your case has become bent. You may simply need to replace your top case. Fortunately we have some extras on our site. It could definitely be something else, but without seeing the system I can't really be sure.
@nintendorepair Well it's definitely bent at the front of the bottom case, above the power and reset buttons. I got a different screwdriver and managed to make it a little tighter so it doesn't pop up so much. At least it still works.
Don't know what the deal is with the screws being hard to screw in, when screwing in the metal shield, but I've managed to bring it down to only one screw not wanting in. That'll do. >_>
@123makx We sure do. We have refurbished original NES controllers and newly manufactured replica NES controllers which are really nice. Just search for nintendo repair shop on google, and search for nes controller in our site's search box.
hi i have a question when i put my game in it dont work so when i go to pull it out it gets stuck/wedged in there and wont come out. plus system wont read the games so is it the 72 pins bad or what?
@bmanballer123 It sounds like the pins on your 72 pin connector may have become bent or damaged in some way. Have you already replaced the 72 pin connector? If the games are just a 5/10 hard to remove (on a scale of ten), then I'd say that is normal at first if you just replaced it. If they are an 8/10 or above, look inside the system to see if you have bent pins. Visit our site, and use our contact us page, and we can help you troubleshoot.
@nintendorepair Na the pins are old i think there bent and i just discoverd my controller slot dont work becuase the controller is brand new. I dont know if i should put anymore money in this thing seems like the whole damn system is broke. Thanks for answering back.
@bmanballer123 Definitely visit our site, search for nintendo repair shop on google, and use our contact us page so we can help you work through this problem. There are a ton of solutions that aren't very expensive to resolve both issues (we sell controller ports for $3.99). If you decide to not try to get it working again, we do buy used systems for cash or store credit.
I just tried this and it work. I put in mario 2 and it work the frist time. I then put in mairo one. Did'nt work the first time but the second time it did. Probably because it was'nt in good though. Working good the only problem it seem to be a little harder to take the games out but it's all good.
@tigerboyX Tigerboy, glad you had a good experience with this. Did you get the connector from us? Did you also get the game cleaning supplies along with the 72 pin connector in our NES Total Repair Kit? We find that games work first time more often, and you can even get those really stubborn games to work if you also use our cleaning kit. Regardless, be gentle as you wear in the new 72 pin connector. You may need to insert a game in and press it up and down several times at first.
@elitezombieslayer129 If it will not turn on at all, you can try replacing the AC Adapter, which we have available on our site wwwDOTnintendorepairshopDOTcom, but you might have a problem with the power adapter on the motherboard itself, in which case it is typically cheaper to replace than repair (you'd have to sacrifice a working unit, and add in labor costs). We have working NES systems on our site also.
@StrangerEnterprises NP. We are here to help. Stay tuned, we will have more vids up shortly. If you haven't already, check out our site. We have some great guides and videos there, as well as a ton of NES, SNES, and N64 games, systems and accessories.wwwDOTnintendorepairshopDOTcom
@tigerboyX Yep, we often hear that from our customers. If you replace the 72 pin connector and clean your games, in almost every case they will pop right up first time, every time. These systems are really amazing to last as long as they have.
@tigerboyX Yeah, the kit is $17.99, the 72 pin connector on its own is $8.49, and our mail-in NES repair service is $29.99 (to have us fix it for you).

You will be fine with that 72 pin connector after a while, but it will likely wear out faster.
nintendorepair 1 year ago
@nintendorepair aha not to be condescending, but isn't the goal of your business to NOT have customers come back? ;)
IIIKryptonIII 9 months ago
@hughesbill45 not all 72 pin connectors are the same, and cleaning your games without our kit
often times its not as effective. Where did you buy your supplies?
nintendorepair 1 year ago
Ohh okhay. Um to get the dust mothballs out would a can of air spray be okhay on the system?
steubenvillwrestling 1 year ago
@steubenvillwrestling yep that is what I would suggest

My NES has been working for years but all of a sudden its started acting up. I was playing an nes game it was working fine but then like when I got towards the end of the game it just completly frozed on me and when I tried another game it did the exact same thing. What would be the cause of that?
steubenvillwrestling 1 year ago
@steubenvillwrestling This sounds like an overheating problem to me. Try opening up the system and cleaning out any mothballs that are in there. Also, keep it away from things, and on a raised surface while playing.
nintendorepair 1 year ago
my screen flashes and it won't come on.
soisyourface1234 1 year ago
@soisyourface1234 This is one of two very common symptoms. This is actually a built-in response that means the system does not recognize that a game is inserted. Try it without a game and you will see it is the same response. This means that your 72 pin connector pins are not making proper contact, and typically needs to be replaced although if you are using an extremely dirty game this could also cause this symptom.

I bought a non-working NES from my friend, followed a similar video with similar steps, and it works with a wedge-like object shoved into the door of the console. Any suggestions of what I could do to properly assess this issue?
mongovi 1 year ago
@mongovi This is a common, albeit temporary solution. This "fix" presses the game further down against the metal contacts of the 72 pin connector. While this does work for a short period of time, eventually you will just bend the pins even further back and it will stop working all together. The ultimate solution is described in our video and on our website. Check us out. We have all the items and free guides you will need on Nintendo Repair Shop dot com

Would you be able to tell me if the 72 pin connector sold in this kit would work in a PAL system?
ArixOdragc 1 year ago
@ArixOdragc Yes actually, the 72 pin connector is no different between PAL and NTSC.

Oscy 1 year ago
@Oscy Yes, in general you have to make sure everything is flush from the motherboard to the game tray, and even the metal rf shield. I would start out by taking everything back apart, and make sure you have lined everything up properly. Pay special attention to getting the plastic lip on the bottom/front of the game tray underneath the motherboard. If you don't it can stick up and cause issues.
nintendorepair 1 year ago
@nintendorepair Hmm, the only thing that seems to go underneath the motherboard is part of the connector. Even so, it isn't the game tray because even when I click it down, so it doesn't hypothetically push the tray up, fit the metal shield + top of the NES case on (no screws), it still seems like something is pushing the top half up.
I'm not sure if the metal shield exasperates the problem a little, but w/out it it seems the inward warping mentioned earlier makes it all impossible to fit.
Oscy 1 year ago
@nintendorepair ...So the end product is a Nes with its top popping up.
Oscy 1 year ago
@Oscy Ok, you may be in a situation where the top or bottom portion of your case has become bent. You may simply need to replace your top case. Fortunately we have some extras on our site. It could definitely be something else, but without seeing the system I can't really be sure.
nintendorepair 1 year ago
@nintendorepair Well it's definitely bent at the front of the bottom case, above the power and reset buttons. I got a different screwdriver and managed to make it a little tighter so it doesn't pop up so much. At least it still works.
Don't know what the deal is with the screws being hard to screw in, when screwing in the metal shield, but I've managed to bring it down to only one screw not wanting in. That'll do. >_>
Thank ya muchly anyway.

@nintendorepair hi what is the bottom lid in the center for ?

hi i have a question when i put my game in it dont work so when i go to pull it out it gets stuck/wedged in there and wont come out. plus system wont read the games so is it the 72 pins bad or what?
bmanballer123 1 year ago
@bmanballer123 It sounds like the pins on your 72 pin connector may have become bent or damaged in some way. Have you already replaced the 72 pin connector? If the games are just a 5/10 hard to remove (on a scale of ten), then I'd say that is normal at first if you just replaced it. If they are an 8/10 or above, look inside the system to see if you have bent pins. Visit our site, and use our contact us page, and we can help you troubleshoot.
nintendorepair 1 year ago
@nintendorepair Na the pins are old i think there bent and i just discoverd my controller slot dont work becuase the controller is brand new. I dont know if i should put anymore money in this thing seems like the whole damn system is broke. Thanks for answering back.
bmanballer123 1 year ago
@bmanballer123 Definitely visit our site, search for nintendo repair shop on google, and use our contact us page so we can help you work through this problem. There are a ton of solutions that aren't very expensive to resolve both issues (we sell controller ports for $3.99). If you decide to not try to get it working again, we do buy used systems for cash or store credit.

I just tried this and it work. I put in mario 2 and it work the frist time. I then put in mairo one. Did'nt work the first time but the second time it did. Probably because it was'nt in good though. Working good the only problem it seem to be a little harder to take the games out but it's all good.
tigerboyX 1 year ago
@tigerboyX Tigerboy, glad you had a good experience with this. Did you get the connector from us? Did you also get the game cleaning supplies along with the 72 pin connector in our NES Total Repair Kit? We find that games work first time more often, and you can even get those really stubborn games to work if you also use our cleaning kit. Regardless, be gentle as you wear in the new 72 pin connector. You may need to insert a game in and press it up and down several times at first.
nintendorepair 1 year ago
@nintendorepair No i did'nt get the connector from you, I got it from ebay. Yes I got the cleanner and used it.

@tigerboyX Cool. Thanks for using our stuff! How did it work for you?

Mine just wont turn on.
Any advice?
elitezombieslayer129 1 year ago
@elitezombieslayer129 If it will not turn on at all, you can try replacing the AC Adapter, which we have available on our site wwwDOTnintendorepairshopDOTcom, but you might have a problem with the power adapter on the motherboard itself, in which case it is typically cheaper to replace than repair (you'd have to sacrifice a working unit, and add in labor costs). We have working NES systems on our site also.

are the bottles full when you get them? Or do you get then like half full. I'm talking about the paste and the rinse, just to clarify.

@StrangerEnterprises The bottles are full. The ones in the video are actually half used already.

@tigerboyX Yep, we often hear that from our customers. If you replace the 72 pin connector and clean your games, in almost every case they will pop right up first time, every time. These systems are really amazing to last as long as they have.
nintendorepair 1 year ago
@nintendorepair Had mine since I was 5, now i'm 25. Maybe I should try this. Look like this part cost 17.99
tigerboyX 1 year ago
@tigerboyX Yeah, the kit is $17.99, the 72 pin connector on its own is $8.49, and our mail-in NES repair service is $29.99 (to have us fix it for you).
nintendorepair 1 year ago
@nintendorepair I see. I'm going to try this one of these days. I'm going to need the whole kit since I never clean a single game in 20 years.
