Still respect you as a great comedian, observer of life and as a storyteller but the 'philosophy that you should beat some women"...? Uh uh big faux pas in a way of thinking that needs updating. we're better than that. We've just got to start acting like it.
Just becos u can philosophically break down why women want 2 be beaten, does not mean u 'philosophically' should. Thats a philosophy that belongs in the dark ages. Women trapped in a mentality that violence is a form of communication tend 2 b damaged by an experience of domestic violence in some way It is a language they understand Doesn't make it right As the possible perpetrator of violence against a woman u have a choice: help her break the cycle or start/maintain yours as a beater of women.
this is one of the best interviews i have ever seen, he makes me want to improve myself as a person. improve the way i make decisions and summarise my options by increasing the breadth and depth of my character, the elloquence of my voice/ thoughtpath, by reading more, by seeing more of the world than just my estate. by expanding my horizons and enriching my perception for the greater good of everyone
Damn, he gave you your money's worth, didn't he? Ignore any shitty comments about the questions you asked - then man obviously doesn't need to have the information manually wanked out of him. He's got a lot of intelliegent stuff to say, and you just gave him some starting points - obviously the right ones as he gives great answers. Does anyone else wish he was Prime Minister?
If the staff were working unpaid overtime I hope they proceeded to get their union reps involved. Both Equity and BECTU are very stringent about overtime for theatre technicians. Legally they should be paid up until they leave the theatre building.
@PuppetsNStuff I doubt it. It's hardly a theatre... more a basement under a cinema staffed by people working on the bar. It mainly does gigs for local indie bands and doubles up as an internet cafe in the day.
He is such an intelligent guy. That joke in another youtube video about it being cheaper to piss on a prostitute than piss on the street really made a horrific statement about society in general but specifically asking this question about legalizing prostitution.
All the best comedians seem to be intelligent.. and chronically depressed.
I loved the questions that you asked, they really seemed to open Reg up to us and we definatly heard from him what we wanted to hear. Your question planning was good and you guided the interview well, but there was a bit of umming and ahhing, along with some stuttering. That's elementary though, and can easily be patched up.
Don't listen to the haters saying your technique was bad, as far as I'm concerned you asked the questions I would have and he was very open and candid in his responses. You may be an 'amateur' interviewer but I think it was that factor that made Reg feel comfortable enough to be so open. He strikes me as a guy who never forgets where he came from and as a result responds better to people who are just starting out, as opposed to TV shows where he'd be more inclined to put on an 'act'. Good Job.
i am very thankful for this interview, Reginald comes to Australia every now and then and other than a few spots on TV programs we don't see much of him. this is a good insight into where he is coming from thank you.
@imjackcooper i appreciate the time constraints I think what frustrated others as it did with me was that some stuff was dying to be followed up on. the best example was when he spoke of other comics he admired but hadn't previously. you didn't need to ask for examples or really explore that whole point but it certainly seemed like you should of asked him what comedians he currently admired/enjoyed. hope that helps.
i hated the questions about he being black, they weren't offending but if i were black i would hate it if they'd ask me, you don't ask a white man what issues come with being white, i bet he gets these kind of questions all day, just like any other celebrity that's black.
I'd like to leave a positive comment on this interview seeing as some people have been bitching. The interview has obviously been conducted by a guy who's an enthusiast and a fan, not a professional, and who is probably more interested in being a comedian than an journalist. As Hunter says, it takes years of practice, study and thought to get genuinely good at anything, and this guy has obviously made the right decision of asking his questions and then getting out of the way.
lol, there was one point where he answered a question, and you just stoppped speechless like.... "err... that was amazing" funny, good interview tho, and the only one I can find of him. well done you
@PeterZeeke That wasn't amazing, it was just awkward. I thought the interviewer sucked but it makes you wonder what a good interviewer could have done. I really like Reginald after this.
@imjackcooper, oh ok sorry mate, didn't mean any offense, I was't aware of those extenuating circumstances. What bugs me is that there's so little on Reg out there. He is very smart, insightful and intellectually honest, and he should get so much more airplay. Don't get me wrong, I am grateful for this interview, as limited as it is. Cheers mate
It annoys me how little the interviewer is listening and/or engaging with what Reg is saying. He's making so many interesting comments and the interviewer is like "uh ok, next question"
Interviewers dont listen, there jus there too ask the questions, thats why sometimes people being interviewed ask some questions back to make sure thre listening
No offense intended here, because I'd suck in public situations, but the interviewer really didn't work well enough or hard enough to deserve such a fantastically complete response.
I knew I liked Reg. I knew he had a hell of a lot in reserve. But I had no idea he was the kind of person who would be so ready to deliver such a complete philosophical observation.
The best thing I've seen on the net this year so far.
nice to see positive comments for a change, i I've got a lot of time for this guy, i hope he gets a show of his own on BBC sometime soon, it was nice to see him on Only a Theory but i thought he is better than just being second fiddle to some nobody. A rare thing a thought provoking comedian
Whoa, whoa, whoa, I love Reginald D Hunter, but I don't think you can call Andy Hamilton a nobody under any circumstance. I think we all wanted to see more of Hunter's antics on Just A Theory, but Hamilton is arguably one of the greatest comedy writers ever, among other things.
Funny, honest and extremely well thought out answers to all the questions in this interview. Always makes me laugh when he is on "It's Only A Theory" and always makes me think.
The man is a legend. Intelligent, conisdered views, but willing to say tha jokes that make you fall out of your chair and practically shit yourself. I look forward so much to seeing him live, and buying him a drink afterwards.

It just seemed that you wanted to get your list of questions done regardless of his answers.
I don't think you once tried expanding on any of his answers. And as for time being against you he didn't seem to be in a rush to me.
Anyway it's better than i could do so good luck in the future.
