Are these bikes rare? I cannot seem to find any for sale. Looking for a decent starter bike that I won't get bored with after a few months. This looks perfect to get me ready for a Triumph Speed triple in a few years.
@XR4turbo In Europe the hornet (as it is called there) is a very popular bike. In the USA, they didn't sell well. Plus we only got the 2004 & 2006 model years in 600cc. There may be more 919s about.
As far as a starter bike, that is a tricky one. While it won't impress anyone who is used to a CBR600RR, it still has a fair bit of power (about 95hp crank). It can get up to speed very quickly. Also the throttle comes on like a switch from closed.
Fud, there are definitely some battle scars on that 599, but maybe some neglect too. Brillo pad could work wonders. Might I suggest that the bike be allowed a rebuttal; Battle scars, my Fudmottin in 2011.
yep honda makes a tuff bike that you can not saying that you did but they biuld a bike that you can beat the hell out of and it keeps coming back for more. looks as long as it starts and runs well who cares at its looks
@aeroliner750 Since the 16k mile service, it's running better than new. I mean it powers up the front wheel, something it never did before. And I know I didn't lose weight!
@aeroliner750 Maybe. I don't think about any of the controls anymore. But I'm pretty sure I've tried wide open acceleration in first gear to redline without the front wheel lifting up before. Not much skill required to do that. I haven't mastered any clutch tricks or fancy launches.
@Fudmottin that is clucth and throttle control because i am sure that if you just dump the clucth and gave it everything that she has that the front would leave the ground and maybe you on you on your but LOL
so give your self a pat on the back
ecause i can get the front end off the ground with my vulcan 900 take care and as always ride safe my friend
@aeroliner750 I know I can loop the bike by revving the engine up and dumping the clutch. But I'm talking a pure power wheelie. That is, the front wheel comes up on normal acceleration on full throttle without doing clutching or bumping the front suspension.
The bike was marginal before. That is, rumble strips or something like that would float the front wheel. Now it doesn't need that. I think the guy who did the 16k service fixed the tuning a bit. I mean plugs get changed, etc.
dang man.. mine's four years old now. it's amazing how the little things add up over the years, but none of it really matters... it's still your bike and she still gets you A to B..
@kodakZX1 Thanks. The motor in this bike has a very good pedigree. It's the same one from the 1998 CBR600F3. Only the carburetors are different. And the steel frame is very solid.
@seekinsoul That's what I always say. I think one of those scratches was from slicing an H2 in half that tried to cut me off. SUVs aren't all that tough.
@invisiblemon I still feel guilty on the nice days I don't ride because I'm still paying for insurance. But I did just book the Deals Gap Motorcycle Resort for the first four days of August.
@Swipe650 I've only got 19,317 miles on her now. I'm not racking up the miles as quickly as I did when I first got it. A couple hundred of those were put on just last Thursday (2 June) though.

Does the smell from the exhaust get in your clothes like on some 599s and 919s?
redhawkdancing 3 months ago
@redhawkdancing Yeah, a bit. I hardly notice it anymore.
Fudmottin 3 months ago
Excellent bike!! Its nice to know the Hornets are so bullet proof. Hope you have a great 2011 on that steed. Cheers!

Gotta love the Hondas. So long as another car isn't its demise, they will outlast the Earth itself.
starhobo14 8 months ago
@starhobo14 So far I've been the bike's worst enemy. But just yesterday a few cagers tried to kill me.
Fudmottin 8 months ago
How many miles?
todkapuz 8 months ago
@todkapuz 19,317 miles when I did the video. Not changed much :-(
Fudmottin 8 months ago
All these years and still mostly stock!
Zavochkin 8 months ago
@Zavochkin Yeah. The bike is pretty good out the door. Not that I wouldn't mind doing a few other mods. But I just haven't been bothered.
Fudmottin 8 months ago
Yep. She sounds good and looks good :) ride her til she drops!

@britex3186 The dragon hasn't knocked me down yet. But gravel on PA and NJ roads has.

@Spacecoastz I'll give the bike a camera and see what it can do with it.

I find myself drawn to that bike for some reason. Oh wait ... mine looks just like it!

@dprider02 You've got a nice bike :-)
Fudmottin 8 months ago
So how many time has it had a low side then? lol Thinking of a up grade soon or you want to keep it for a couple more years or till it dies?
CJSNOWY 9 months ago
@CJSNOWY I kinda lost count :-(
On the plus side, my last crash was in 2008. It only tipped over on its stand a couple times since then.
Fudmottin 8 months ago
@CJSNOWY Oh, and ride it until it dies, swap engines, repeat as necessary.

@L0udP1p35 I have to agree. Any bike that can spin off the road and still be rideable is a good bike.
